Not sure how to evaluate KP

Ok, so Pickett can’t see an open potential 75 yard td and misses 13 yard crossing routes. ✌️
Yeap, basically. My point is the read wasn't bad, I rather he gets pickens there with room to spare than lob it to DJ who is a 50/50 catch at best given his drops and lack of size.

A decent throw in the crossing route and there were 20 + yards to gain with zero risk .

All cool here, cheers mate.

On the positive side of things....he didn't seem to have this issue at the college level...

Seeing the field and anticipating he obviously can do...

IMHO...he just needs to become more comfortable at the pro level. I can only imagine the pressure and stress he is experiencing right now.

Only time can eliminate this....I hope.

Facts.
Joe Burrow 6-3
Kenny Pickett 6-3

Joe Burrow 220lbs
Kenny pickett 217lbs

Joe Burrow 9”
Kenny Pickett 8.5”

Both hold schools single season passing records after mediocre college careers.

Those facts not opinions.
This is the dumbest QB comparison I’ve ever seen. Joe Burrow had the greatest QB season in college football ever. Saying a QB is their schools all-time passer doesn’t remotely compare to the best ever in the entirety of college football and I can’t even believe you tried to make that argument.

I'm not reading this thread....trashing KP in his rookie year expecting him to be an All Pro is just tenth-level stupid. This is Terry Bradshaw trashing from the early 70's all over again. Take a look at Josh Allen's rookie year when he started 12 games with a 52.8 completion rate, more INT's than TD's and tell me he should have been replaced after his rookie year. Unbelievable.

I've resolved to just read and laugh at this stuff. **** the fans had an effigy of TB with a noose around his neck in his early years. I don't know how that guy survived that kind of bullshit. Obviously Chuck Noll believed in him or he would have traded Terry when he asked for one.

I'm glad the fans don't run the team. Although we definitely peg some things correctly after years of watching, we also don't.

Short memories and impatience. The desire for instant gratification runs heavy.

Poor mans Joe Burrow. Both had significant jumps from one year to the next.

Ford you're quickly becoming the rich man's coach
Well, at least he isn't slobbering all over KP's nuts just because. The people who can't objectively view a player just because he's a Steeler or was a Pitt Panther are just repugnant.

I am cooking a bone in Prime Rib for Thanksgiving. Deep frying it for 2 minutes per pound at 400 degrees and then finishing it off in the oven at 220 degrees. cant wait!

That's just it, it's too soon to say and also hard to judge because the OL isn't good, the running game isn't good, and the OC isn't good.
Agreed. I don't think there should be much question of that. I feel like the next three weeks will say a lot about if this was good for his development or not.

Ford has been way out there lately with some of his opinions.😁

just my 2 cents. it is impossible to really evaluate a QB his 1st year unless he is Ben good or Ryan Leaf bad. Kenny is neither. he might be the next Peyton for all we know.

I quite honestly think that Mitch or Mason give us the best chance of winning right now. Hopefully that is different next year

I think it is a little unfair to compare any rookie QB to BigBen. He was an elite talent who had a great rookie season. Definitely was against the normal even for good to great QBs. Not sure Dalton will ever be as mobile as Kenny so he has that for him, he can create plays with his legs with either scrambling to give a WR time to get open or run for some yardage. Which is already on display. Not that the concerns aren't there. But I think his accuracy will be fine. For me it is his red zone reads and overall decision making that need to improve. I feel they will but it is a wait and see obviously.

Why is it unfair to compare Ben to Kenny? They're both first round picks. The fact that Ben was an elite talent and Kenny is not is exactly the point.

Dalton was far more mobile than Kenny in college. He ran a read option at TCU. Here's their career rushing stats
Dalton 413 att 1611 yards 22 TD
Kenny Pickett 416 att 809 yards 20 TD

Andy Dalton is a decent player. He won a bunch of NFL games. If he was on the 49ers, he could take them to a super bowl, just like Jimmy G. He's not great though and not going to elevate players. That's my concern for Kenny.

I didn't know that about Dalton's college rushing stats. Thanks for that info. Just never screamed that mobile in the NFL. Have you seen that from him in the NFL?

The thing is, you've proven nothing other than the comparable size/weight/handsize and the oh so reliable "they both broke school records".
In fairness it’s really not all that different than the guys comparing Pickett to Manning, Allen and Bradshaw. They all had horrible starts to their careers. Doesn’t mean Pickett is going to be any good. Still doesn’t stop people from doing it though.

For the record, I have no dog in this fight. I think comparisons in sports, for the most part, are dumb. Too many variables.

So you might notice all the crap on that list... here is the reality... of the 35 qbs taken from 2005 to 2017, only like 8 spent more than 5 years with the team that drafted them
Aaron Rodgers, Alex smith(who mostly sucked and was injured the whole time in SF), Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan (not exactly surefire HOF types), Matthew Stafford (who only won after leaving Detroit) Cam Newton, Andrew luck (who retired early), and Patrick Mahomes.... there are other good or at least serviceable QBs on that list, but they had to develop over multiple stops to get there...

The bottom line is Franchise qbs are extremely rare, and most stud prospects never amount to squat...and its just way too early to make any call on Pickett

Yea. It's too early to make a call on Pickett. Let's watch him as he gets experience this year. By the end of this season we should have a good idea.

I'm certainly not a KP lover or Pitt lover as I went to Penn State so no dog in that fight. But, Ben sucked in Canaduh's offense last year until he said FU and ran his own offense to win us 6 games and almost a 7th (if my memory is correct). Trubisky sucked in Canaduh's offense. He came in and played well for less than a half when KP was injured but so what. So, now the team is KP's, for better or worse, for at least this year and the next 2 or 3. Get used to it. Whine all you want. Say he sucks all you want. If he turns out to be good in the end, praise him all you want. But, like liberals in politics, my guess is you will never come back and admit you were wrong. I haven't said KP is our savior. I see some bad and some good, just like 90%+ of rookie QB's. This last week, I saw some nice maturity and improvement after the bye week. The kid studies and puts in the effort with the best of them. What sucks for KP as a rookie is he and the rest of the O will (at least we hope) have to learn a new offense next year when Canaduh is fired. That will take time for all involved.

I making a very moist turkey in an electric oven (counter top unit) at about 220 F for about 4-5 hrs. Tinfoil stuffing (not in the bird). I also will bring buns not neccessarily Alba's but some that eat near as good.................................

Someone needs to tell these journalists to stop comparing Pickett to Burrow.

And the apples and oranges theme that lots of commenters/comparers ignore concerning 7: Ben to begin with had a GREAT o-line and The Bus,Parker, even Staley behind him. Using stats doesn't work in this comparison. Ben later after years with bad O-lines, but years running the same offense he knew like the back of his hand could find the open man because he knew where every WR was and he had guys who would move with him when the O-line collapsed: Ward, Holmes, AB, even Cedric Wilson knew what to do.....these guys now run their routes and when the play breaks down they just stand there. There is a you tube video of the ALL-22 by an ex Steeler (want to say Moats but not sure) highlighting this and dude hammers the wideouts for not helping and giving up on plays.

Having said all that this is not a crowning of Kenny Pickett. He had one good year at Pitt, but when you look at the totality of his college record the thing that stands out is his terrible TD to Interception ratio....something that is being duplicated now with the Steelers, but again stats are not everything and to compare or say he's not a franchise guy at this time is silly. There are those factors that I mentioned above and the fact that he needs a bigger body of work before judgement can be passed on him. When the O-line gets better and the running game is helping if he still can't produce then we can say the bashers were right.

Actually you should watch the you tube video of Sean Hannity, ****** Carlson, Pirro, and other clowns at Fox News as it goes through a timeline of their incorrect wacky conspiracy theories as they move on from one to the next never acknowledging how full of it they were. It's quite an eye opener if all you have is a McDonald's drive thru memory and a bias....I am not a liberal though, I'm an independent because both parties suck: one is useless and the other has become pure evil incarnate...while claiming family values...LOL, but one can't help and laugh at that lunacy. This is football though so I digress.
