Penguins *******!

Maata confirmed case of the mumps. Poor kid. What's next?

I'm the first guy to bag on Malkin for his bouts of laissez faire so I have to give him credit for his current bout of intensity. Fleury has been freakin incredible. Sid gets off the schneide.

I hate being overly optimistic this early in the season but if this team gets 100% healthy...............?

Farnham is definitely playing like a guy that doesn't want to be sent back down to WBS. He's like an offensive-minded Craig Adams - not star caliber, but a guy that always seems to be going a million miles an hour and creating headaches for the other team. Craig Adams is more likely to be back-checking and giving up the body to block shots, while Farnham is a forechecking monster and always looking for someone to hit while still getting in on scoring opportunities.

I love it that the young guys are getting playing time and are playing well. Instead of looking to move one of the young pieces to solidify the team, they could look somewhere else. Martin is expendable. Maybe Kunitz. I just wouldn't be too quick to trade our top tier young Dmen.

Gave up waaaaaaay too much for David Perron. If you are giving up a first rounder, I would hope it would be part of a package to bring in a guy like Jordan Eberle. Perron is a nice addition, but Rutherford paid too much.

as he paid too much for Jordan Staal, as well. He didn't give up anyone of value from the current roster, so that's a bonus.

I mean Edmonton only gave up a 2nd rounder and a minor leaguer to get him from STL. And Perron only has 19 points this year, so I am failing to see how his value went up. Rutherford got robbed.

maybe they feel our first rounder is like a second rounder, but I do agree, he overpaid. He scores 25 goals here and I'll be quiet.

That Ahlr at the time was the 4th overall pick in his second year in the pros. His value was greater than the first we gave up now. Perron scored 28 goals last year, is an all around talent at wing. He is a netfront presence, and can snipe. He is literally what they should have been looking for for a mere pick. The NHL isn't the NFL. picks are rather worthless outside the top of the first round. On our team Kunitz and duper were UFA's Hornqvist was a 7th rounder and Erhoff was a fifth... letang was a third... talent is a bit more spread out and erratic after the very top of the draft. A first rounder for a 26 year old legit top 6 winger is fine.

I swear everyone overrated NHL picks like they were NFL [picks in this town. They only matter when you have a shot at a true franchise guy... the NHL is tradecentric when it comes to building your team.... and frankly the pens have a handful of younger wingers that are all top 6 guys in college or overseas or injured in the AHL. If they can bridge the next two years they should be set for a half decade. they already have more young top 4 defensemen than they need, and will have to trade two. They have a boatload of bottom 6 forwards that are already NHL ready too... they have two young centers that are both going to be great in the #3 role... they have 3 legit goalie prospects... to trade a first for a potential long term solution at wing is a no brainer

If Perron is able to stay healthy through the playoffs, he is a good pick in my book.

I fall on this side of the argument. 28 goals, 57 points on a **** team....and now gets to play with Crosby, Malkin, Dupers eventually, Bennett and Sutter, etc.

This doesn't smell like one of Shero's crappy deals for Morrow, Murray or a rental like Iginla. Perron is signed for this year and next and is only 26 and can contribute immediately. They would probably have used their pick for a winger anyhow and how long would it be 'til they developed him?

I'm all in on this one.

Pretty sure I said Perron was a nice addition. He will contribute, probably set personal bests. I have liked Perron for a long time. Just think Rutherford over paid. I know how draft picks work in the NHL. It is a complete and utter crap shoot from top to bottom. Maybe it is just that Rutherford has a history of getting fleeced. Guess we will see if Perron fits in.

What a night. Stillers, Pens, and a great UFC fight (yeah, we'll see, but should be).

You know, when the Pens were blowing chunks against the Habs, the Steelers' outcome wasn't going to be pretty. Not to mention, NC State destroyed PITT BB earlier in the day. Geez, what a bad day of PGH sports.

I'm over it. Just not as much emotionally invested.
