Penguins *******!

#jets Evander Kane has a shoulder injury. The question is will he need a surgery. We'll know in the next few days. #tvasports

-pass

IF he wasn't dipshit I would be all in. Hell, a part of me thinks he acts up because he wants out of Winnipeg. It would be a risk for sure. But the reward could be great as well. He can score, plus he plays a really fast physical game. The Pens need a couple of guys like that.

But hell, if we are fantasizing about trading for Winnipeg Jets, I wouldn't mind adding Andrew Ladd.

I'm sure many teams will be in the Kane sweepstakes and I don't know if the Pens have what the Jets want. It was something to consider on a slow night.

I'd be shocked if we made a play for Kane. I wouldn't be shocked if we entered the playoffs with the team we currently have.

I'd be shocked if one or two of our young Dmen are not moved for more upgrades. I feel a big trade will be coming. Nothing like a blockbuster, but one more significant trade.

Speaking of Evander Kane...my favorite picture of him...

Ha! He can fight. I think that was one punch to Cooke's chin. Fight ended quickly, if I remember correctly.

per TSN, Kane to have shoulder surgery. Out 4-6 months. Crossed off the Christmas list.

Kane out for rest of season.

Dump that Kunitz contract and use the cap space to get Jagr

Get someone for crying out loud. This Geno& Sid show isn't going to cut it in the playoffs.

I don't know man.

At this point I might go for a trade Bennett in a package for a winger. I'd love to keep him and develop him, but if he's just gonna continue to get scratched then what's the point? I still think he's getting shopped anyways.

How many strings does an Arcopello have, again?

Not sure why all the whining to trade this guy or that guy...Perron and LaWhatever have done pretty well..and Poillot is as advertised...

Puck yinzers.

I don't know who you think is whining about trading anyone. The last 2 or 3 days, it's been the talk of Pittsburgh sports talk radio and that Rutherford is not done putting this team together for the PO run. There have been several names being thrown around who could be bargaining chips to bring in those final pieces. Maybe they do nothing, but how the "Mr. Know It All Media" sees it, they still could be players in the trade market.

Another shutout 4-0 I'll take it. Now get the powerplay going again! Shoot the puck and get guys in front of the net.

Kidding right? That Kunitz line is freaking awesome. CK 15 G, 34 pts, +7 vs Jags's 11 / 28 /-11

.

Apparently enough to pull that he continues to get playing time.

You mean the "Crosby line"

anybody with Sid will look good - and he picks who he wants

he would know.

if you seriously want talent, Shrek is the only trade that will bring immediate help.

and you better get a 3rd line Center in there.

I wouldn't be totally against the blockbuster that involved Malkin, but I've heard reports that if he traded, he would go to Russia on the first plane out of town. It's the Pens or home. That could be a problem, if true. For Malkin, they would need a top 6 wing and center, to replace his spot. Maybe Sutter moves to #2 center, but I'd need a helluva return for him. Sutter is good on the 3rd line, but would scare me on the 2nd line and PP.

stop it - we're not losing Malkin - he's bought and paid for

Evgeni Malkin contract: Penguins forward agrees to 8-year, $76 million extension

The two sides have agreed to an eight-year, $76 million contract that carries an annual average value of $9.5 million against the salary cap, beginning in the 2014-15 season, the deal will conclude after 2021-22.

I knew i should have went into hockey when i was a kid.

They were tired and they wanted to go home, so they did.

Even the Vancooooover tv guys saw it.

I got no problem with Sutter as #2 centerman...but wow would the 3rd line suck w/o him.

That is what I saw, although I didn't watch much of the game, being so late. Let's face it, every team the Pens face bring their A game. Pens are bound to have a few bad nights. Last night was one of them.

I have to say, when the Pens lose, they lose rather big. They could be tired, but they should not be getting shutout as often as they are. Its nice to beat Calgary and Edmonton, but VAN, WASH and Nashville are better measuring points.

I'll chalk it up to the west coast trip lag. But I'd really like to know how Arcobello gets time over Bennett.....baffling.

Spike the cap difference between Jagr and Kunitz is about 300 bucks. I'm pretty sure Sid's okay with CK and can't see trading a young good forward for and aging one.

if the new coach want's to put a mark on his team he tells Sid he ain't the one running the team and he'll play with whoever we get him!

Chris Kunitz has had a very good run as a Pittsburgh Penguin since being acquired from the Anaheim Ducks on February 26, 2009. He instantly became Sidney Crosby’s go-to Left Wing and helped the Penguins win their first Stanley Cup Championship since 1992. But recently, Kunitz has found himself scrutinized by much of the fan base and media, and a rumor has surfaced that he is requesting a one-way ticket out of Pittsburgh.

Whether or not Jim Rutherford should trade Kunitz is a major question right now. Statistically, Kunitz has been far from disappointing this season. He currently has 15g and 16a for 31 points, which ties him for fourth on the Penguins roster with Patric Hornqvist. And he’s still finding his place around the net, which is evident considering his team-leading 15.6% shooting percentage. He’s also tied with Evgeni Malkin with a team-leading eight power play goals, something that you have to seriously consider on a team struggling so mightily to score with the man advantage.

The biggest issue with Kunitz is his contract, which carries a cap hit of around 3.8 million per year. With two more years left on his deal, that’s a lot of money for a 34-year old pseudo power forward. One area Kunitz seems to have lost a step is in his hard-nosed punishing forecheck. He doesn’t pose the same threat to opposing defenseman as he has in years past

Rob Rossi reported that it’s Sidney Crosby’s preference that Patric Hornqvist not play on his wing. He stated that Crosby feels Hornqvist is not a good enough skater and that he doesn’t like playing with net-front wingers.

Recent rumors also place Pittsburgh in the list of teams making offers for Daniel Winnik from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Whoa Hoss.....the same article.

Let’s not forget that Sidney Crosby loves playing with Chris Kunitz, and while I don’t believe players should have final say on whom they play with, it’s hard to deny that they work well together.

The only teams likely to be in the market for a Kunitz type of acquisition will be non-contenders that can use him as a temporary building block, and he has a limited no movement clause that would most definitely halt a deal with a team like that.

Finally, Rob Rossi reported today that it’s Sidney Crosby’s preference that Patric Hornqvist not play on his wing. He stated that Crosby feels Hornqvist is not a good enough skater and that he doesn’t like playing with net-front wingers. I find these statements to be hard to swallow, especially considering that Crosby has always preferred Kunitz be on his line who plays a very similar game. Also, Crosby and Hornqvist came out of the gates flying and putting up outstanding numbers early in the season before injuries caused line separations and fill-ins throughout the roster. There were no recorded quotes from Crosby on this subject, and nothing in print, so until I hear those words from Sid himself I have a hard time buying in.

So right now rumors are all they are. And honestly until now I really hadn't heard anyone or of anyone "scrutinizing" Kunitz. Having one of his better years.

Now I'm not saying losing him would be the end of the franchise....just that it would have to be for someone other than Jagr.

Edit....I agree no player should have anything other than recommendations to offer a coach. I've said for years that Sid is given far too much consideration there.
