Penguins *******!

a St. Louis perspective on the trade:

"It's a different type of player than Lappy was," Hitchcock said. "Lappy was a hunter and very good at it. He was a strong forechecking player, very good at it. Goc manages the ice in a different way. This is kind of a small trade that can help both teams. Pittsburgh needed a certain element in their team to enhance their fourth line and we felt that we needed something different on our team"

Lapierre is brought in as an enforcer. But he does have some hockey skills that may help on the 3rd or 4th line.

Pens playing Caps tonight on NBC. Hope to see our new acquisition, as well as Sid and Flower.

But dreading listening to Doc and Edzo.

It's not that I want him gone, but he will not re-sign with the team after the season and he makes a hefty salary. I'd rather get something for him, if they can. I'd also be Ok if they kept him for the PO run. You can never have enough experienced Dmen.

This....but with Maatta out they really need to keep him.

Feel bad for Goc. He really played his heart out for us.

Goc would have been a nice 4th liner to go w/ Lap. I don't know why the **** we are holding on to Sill/Adams. Get rid of those guys before getting rid of Goc.

Adams works his *** off every game. And has more goals than Goc, has been here longer. Between the two I'm good with Adams. Sill is strictly a Farnham type. Call him up when they play the goons. Like zero cap hit.

No. The Rangers and Islanders run that very line up (minus Lapierre) up and down the ice every time we play them. Better get some speed and a willingness to work hard and make smart hockey plays. I mean, I don't think the Rangers or Islanders have more talent than the Pens, but they sure look like it. Guess that comes with actually looking where you are going to pass the puck.

Well, not exactly.....Comeau's been out and his return will add goal scoring AND grit. 4th more likely to be Spaling, Lapierre and 26.....the new guys name escapes me, although he hasn't shown me a lot yet. And I'd venture to guess Rutherford's not done yet.....he's just ahead of the league.

LOL...classic Penguinz

But dreading listening to Doc and Edzo.

I don't think I can quantify in words how much I hate the NBCSports hockey team. Doc and Pierre are just friggen awful and they've turned Edzo into a brain dead buffoon. And then there's the studio crew....oh, god. Shotgun blasts to the eardrums would sound better.

Hornqvuist needs to be on the Crosby line.

Getting our ***** handed to us. 0 offense. Too many injuries. This team just isn't that good right now.

The Caps are our Kryptonite? Man, they have owned us in the two meets this year and it's not even close. We'd get swept if we played them in a 7-game series. We look like total disarray from last night. Zero goals in two meetings will not cut it.

Turned game off after the 2nd. This team sucks in the face off circle. Crosby was never good at it and neither is anyone else on the team. I don't think the caps are our kryptonite. It more like any team that plays them physical is. Its the same mo, start banging them around and they crumble. Another early exit it the playoffs this year.

This team has not figured itself out yet. Neither has Johnston. We looked so disorganized on offense. I think part of it is the lines changing daily, due to injury. Winnepeg was pretty physical, but we still dominated. I agree that Sid should not be taking face offs. It certainly is odd how good we look when Sid and Geno are not in the lineup.

That was a painful game to watch last night against the Caps. I was pretty sure they would lose after the first period. They got out hustled without a doubt. No spark. Just the same ole same ole

yeah, so - that's why we hired Scuderi back

we have enough plodders - we need scorers

Yeah but.....Adams is a forward, Scud's D.....I agree we have enough "plodders", just not unhappy that Adams is one of them. He's stable as it gets and they always know where he'll be and what he brings. I know he'll never be a goal scorer (like Goc) but they can't all be.

Unfortunately the entire upper tier of the Metro (and philly) is our kryptonite. The Isles, Rangers and Caps are all built exactly to exploit the Pens weaknesses. Fast, good puck possession, gritty teams with above average 3rd and 4th lines, the latter reason especially. I've posited in the past, and haven't abandoned my thought that this team is top heavy. It's nice having Sid and Geno but their collective cap hit keeps the talent level beyond the 2nd line and a couple of good D men at sub par levels. I love both those guys talent wise but I'm just not sure it's a viable system.

edited that....they seem to handle big western teams .

Sid was pretty good at FO's prior to this funk they've been in. Upside (before I turned that **** fest off) Lapierre was at 50%.

Bottom line unless Rutherford comes up with another nice acquisition or two in time to bail them out, this team does not even come out of its division, let alone win a Cup.

I've said that they are too top heavy for 2 or 3 years now. $18M+ for two players is a lot of money for one Cup. Add in Letang, Martin, Scuds, Kunitz and MAF. They have a lot invested in their stars. They are not a balanced team.
I don't know if Johnston is the solution or problem, but I don't see much improvement over last year. They have a lot of injuries, but against our prime competition in our conference, we are getting spanked. I don't know what kind of trade is possible to make this team push to that next level. We certainly can mortgage some of our young D, but the Lapierres and Downeys will only contribute so much. When we are down 3-0, 4-0, their presence mean little.

Two points is two points, no matter who you get them from. Just trying to stay positive as they continue to struggle to score goals.

Flyers reportedly planned Penguins brawl over dinner

According to Pittsburgh-based columnist Dejan Kovacevic, who was in attendance for last night’s fight-filled game at Wells Fargo Center, the “mayhem” we saw on the ice was “orchestrated” by Flyers captain “Claude Giroux and a few of his mates,” who “met at a local steakhouse and decided this night, this opponent would make the perfect foil for turning their season around.”

And just for good measure, Kovacevic called the Flyers “the most repugnant franchise in professional sports with all due apologies to Bill Belichick’s Patriots.”

The crux of Kovacevic’s column was that the Penguins, for the most part, kept their cool despite the Flyers’ attempt to “raise a circus tent over the proceedings.”

But it’s the charge that the Flyers cooked the whole thing up, as opposed to something that happened organically, that was most interesting. Especially considering what Zac Rinaldo said about his hit that injured Kris Letang.

Just another chapter in the rivalry, we suppose.

The Steakhouse Scheme.

Has a ring to it, no?

Honestly **** the flyers! Go start a thread for them.

Pens down 2-0 early vs. Nashville. Stunning.

We coulda had Laviolette!

Need Malkin back - Sid is just going through the motions and nobody else can score.

(raising hand)
Am I aloud to panic yet? This team is an absolute mess! I mean, not jumping off a bridge, all hope is gone, but there is no heart, no cohesion, no fight there. I'm hoping Malkin coming back on Wed. is the ingredient they need right now. Geez. Painful to watch.
