Penguins *******!

Was getting ready to disagree again on the Kunitz thing but at this point I really wouldn't care if they sent the whole ******* team elsewhere. Fleury at least is playing well but he's being hung out to dry by a terrible team.......time to deconstruct.

Kunitz is 35, probably wouldn't get much if anything for him anyway, he's not even top 6 these days - it's just my attempt to break up Sid's line- Sid is always looking to pass up shots and nobody else can score

whatever happened to that Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist line?

At this point, everyone is expendable.

First rule of trading is...: You never make a trade if it creates a hole on the team.

Trading Malkin or Crosby or Fleury would create a pretty big Grand Canyon size hole ... but I'm open for the rest

I know it's blasphemy, but I would not cry if Sid was traded. He just isn't a leader and hasn't really been the same player for years, a few good spurts here and there notwithstanding. Malkin has had issues, too, but I think he has more heart than Sid.

I really don't think much of Johnston either. It's really hard to watch this team right now. They just reek of the lazy.

I know it's blasphemy, but I would not cry if Sid was traded. .

stop it

The PP sucks, they need to fix that first. The season isn't over, it hasn't even started yet. The Pens will make the playoffs.

and Sid will get over losing Kunitz just like he got over losing Colby Armstrong.

Mario will NEVER trade his former house guest. I'm not trying to be funny about that either. Sid is Mario Jr. and will finish his career here. MAF and Malkin have a better chance of being moved than Sid ever would.

I'm wondering if a trade will not shake-up this team, if giving the reigns to Rick Tocchet will. There's only so many trades this team can make w/o giving away the farm. I'm not saying Johnston is the problem, but you can't fire the stars, so something has to get their attention.

I know he'll never be traded. But they need someone to come in and shake that locker room up. Light a fire under all their ***** and make them feel uncomfortable. Johnston seems too meek and the entire organization seems to bend to Crosby's every wish.

There are reports that Johnston walked out of practice today after 10 minutes. Would have liked to be a fly on that wall.
And it is not a foregone conclusion that this team, on it's current course, will make the playoffs. The fact that Sid has to fight to light a fire is very telling.

Like I said, my math says Pens will make the playoffs - 24 games left and the Flyers aren't exactly setting the world on fire either ... they are closest, 14 pts back from Pens.

It would take a heroic collapse for that to happen.....win a couple here and there, no more injuries and they can coast in

uh-oh...........now they're getting cocky

Pens Confident They'll Overcome Turbulence

“When you lose a couple games and aren’t playing right everyone gets nervous, coaches, players, the organization,” Malkin said. “(The situation is) not bad, but it’s not good. We know we can come back. I believe this team has good guys and good players. We need to support each other, relax and we’ll be back.”

florida is closer I think, but they should still make it...but there is no way they win a round if they are playing this brand of hockey. they have enough playoff types in place, they just have to arrange them better and step on some toes to be a better team... I just have no faith they will make the right choices

Good word choice. They keep relaxing and that losing streak will continue to grow. No PPG since Jan. 30th. Yep, keep relaxing boys!

Dave Molinari @MolinariPG Johnston says he might "tweak' forward combinations to try to generate offense tonight.

this should be interesting

Good game tonight. Solid win from a good team. Glad we got them on a back to back night. That helped with Greiss in net, but four goals is what is needed.

Panthers tomorrow night!

I guess I need to avoid watching them when I do get the games here. When I watch, they lose. When I don't watch they win. They're playing the Craps on Wednesday. I'll watch it and 10 bucks says they get clobbered again.

It seems like when i watch they play like hammered *** or half assed as well. Someone needs to forge this group into a unit. A truckload of money tied into 3-4 players who just do whatever isn't getting it done.

Better effort particularly the back check and D (although they still seem incapable of a complete 60 minutes of domination) and the line changes seemed to help. Sid's best game in a while....BUT....I'll reserve full acquittal for this team awhile yet. The Blues were coming off a big effort against a tough Boston team the night before and the Pens seem to do well against the west for some reason.

The Trib is reporting the Pens are interested in re-acquiring Jordan Staal from the Canes and he would waive his no-trade clause to go back to the Pens. Who would we give up for trade bait and cap space? Sutter would have to be included to free up the roster spot, for one. Thoughts? Kunitz for cap space?

Kunitz is definitely on the block, but not by himself. Too old and too expensive. Pouliot will probably be a part of any large scale trade.

it would have to be something like Sutter, Kuntiz and a pick or prospect. The Pens have about $1M in cap space.

big game tonight, yeah, I forgot about the Panthers

Adams scratched!

Pens up 5-0 in the 3rd.....Sid and Horny making magic together. Malkin gets another.

Haven't been able to see the last two games, but it's encouraging. Let's see how they do against the Craps.

Holy crap, that's waaaaayyyy too much. We got Sutter, Dumoulin and Pouliot (via Canes 1st rounder) for Staal in 2012 before his injury.

Staal is getting 6M a year until 2023, Kunitz 3.9 thru 2017. How would this save the Pens cap wise?

Martin, Ehrhoff, Bortuzzo contracts are up 2015 and Maatta and Despres 2016 so dealing Dumoulin and Pouliot requires some study.

NO to Staal...he's too expensive now. ...and with the deadline being a week away and no cap space it'd have to be a blockbuster and I don't see that coming

GM Francis: Jordan Staal isn't being traded

Jordan Staal will not be moved, according to Hurricanes GM Ron Francis.

Francis was responding to a report from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, which stated that the Penguins had interest in acquiring Staal. Nothing is ever set in stone and it's standard for a team to deny a trade rumor if they address it at all

I think we already made our big move in giving up our 1st rd pick for Perron last month

I think there would have been a lot of movement of contracts to fit Staal's salary anyway. Of course, it's too much, but to move $5M in salary is a tall order. It's not going to happen anyway according to Francis, so it's moot. I don't think we need him. Would love to have him, but don't need him. Sutter has been real good. Rutherford might make a mid-level trade to sure up the D, but nothing to shake up the team like a Staal trade would.
