will those 2 points be enough to get in? As it sits now, the Pens are 1 point behind OTT. They win one more and we win in BUF, we still make it? This is too close for comfort, but they only have themselves to blame.

yes - one regulation win in the next two games would do it - Boston only has one game left and are 1 pt behind us, it doesn't matter what Ottawa does now

or Pens can even lose both games if Boston loses their last game against Bolts in regulation ...and we still get in

If this scenario is correct, The Pens don't even have to win to clinch the 8th seed. They just need Boston to lose Saturday at TB. I would prefer they won though.

The Senators are 22-4-4 since Feb. 10, giving them 97 points in the now three-team race for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. Boston's 4-2 loss to Florida and Detroit's overtime loss to Montreal clinched playoff spots for the Red Wings and Islanders, who both have 98 points.

The Senators are at 97, Pittsburgh is at 96 with two games to play (at home vs. Islanders on Friday and at Buffalo on Saturday) and Boston is at 95 with one to go, at Tampa Bay.

Like I just said

but Boston would need to lose in regulation- if Boston gets a point in OT and we tie they would win on tiebreakers if we lose both

The Rangers laid down like dogs. Props to Florida for giving a full effort. I hope we face the Rangers in the first round. One thing about hockey that makes it different from the other sports. If your goalie gets hot, he can steal a series from a better team. I'd love to see MAF go on a hot streak, and send those dogs home. I'd feel good then, even if we bowed out in the next round.

Flower IS on a hot streak, playing lights out. We still can't win. There in lies the problem.

Give the hot goalie the night off along with the top three scorers and the Wild still manage to tie the League record of consecutive road wins at 12. Taking Nashville to task in a game where it meant something to them and not much to the Wild was no small task. That Nashville team is NOT on the top of it's game, they'd make a nice first round opponent. The Wild also hit the 100 point mark with this win which is clearly the mark of a good team.

Still don't know who they'll draw in the first round, Nashville, St Louis, Chicago or Spike's Ducks. Any way you slice it, the Wild have a hot goal keeper and while they would not be a favorite they sure have the ability to win any series.

Lets Play Hockey.... Go Wild

The Rangers laid down like dogs...

yeah they did - now watch they end up facing the Sens and get beat - that would be a hoot!

lookit all them happy Canada teams celebrating, Winnipeg, Calgary and Ottawa are just happy to be IN the playoffs

Knucklehead Pens just need to win tonight . And try not to get hurt doing it.

5 D all the way!

Martin-Lovejoy
Scuds-Cole
Chorney
HA!

They have no other choice - thanks JR

Letang/Ehrhoff are out, and now so is Derrick Pouliot. The Pens can't afford to bring any other dmen up because of the cap situation.

Win tonight and we're in. The way they are playing, they will be out of it in the first round. But, if they play to their potential, they can go very far.

More Scuderi and Lovejoy

That's all we need > Steigy

Gave up another shorty? SMDH

We have to realize that this team may not be that good, even though they are peppering shots and are really trying. Sometimes, the effort don't translate well if the talent is not there.

Fan Appreciation Night is so over-rated

These bums can't hit the broad side of a barn

On to Buff a lo

Absolutely pathetic. Now they get a team that basically tanked all season to make the playoffs.

They aren't. They are what the Steelers would be with Ben, Bell and Brown and a bunch of reclamation projects surrounding them on offense and one star on defense who can't stay on the field.

Pathetic. If they do make it in, they'll probably get swept out of the first round.

Boy, does BUF have a dilemma tomorrow night. Do they go all out or help out the Flightless Birds? I will not doubt the Pens will give 110% in BUF, but will it be enough? They just cannot score and pass waaaaay too much. Sometimes, they really are their worst enemy. Just change the team to Pittsburgh Perimeter Passing Penguins.

Another Sidney Crosby year wasted?

This story seems so similar to the Steelers, right?

If anyone told me in 2009 after we won the Stanley Cup and had the best player on the planet (at age 21) that we would be struggling to put together deep runs into the playoffs or become a borderline playoff team at ANY point during the next decade. I would have scoffed.

Just like what I felt like after we won the Super Bowl in 2006 with Roethlisberger at age 23. How could we NOT be great?

The pressure is off them - they clinched bottom of the barrel

Letang done for the season per DK

Johnston: "You have to get results, for sure. Again tonight, if you look at the game, I think we were textbook in our game."

get this ****** outta here

What an epic nosedive. I would be actually shocked if they beat buffalo.

I watched the game last night...I can somewhat agree with Johnston...the chips are flying but the tree is not coming down..

In fact, IMO they outplayed the Isles last night...It is the momentary lapses in their play, and their unexplainable inability of not being able to finish and put the puck behind the goaltender, that is causing their current dilemma..

We will find out today, if they are mentally beaten down or not..

The Steelers have been to the Super Bowl twice since then, and won one. What the Pens have done is much more disappointing. Ben is a great player, but he has never been close to the best player in the league. The Pens have arguably, the two best players in the league. They are paying for always taking a "win this season" approach, with constant trade deadline transactions, as opposed to looking to build a team that can compete long term. If Crosby and Malkin were past 30, the short term strategy would be the right one, but considering how young they were, the correct strategy would have been to try to build a team around them that could compete over an extended period of time.

To be fair they have been on a long streak now of **** luck on scoring. It happens.....it's just a lot tougher to overcome when you're decimated by injuries as well....kind of a perfect storm. Top it off with dunderheaded moves like acquiring #12, who seems even worse than he was during his initial stint here and ******* up the cap and here we are.
