Penguins *******!

I watched the game last night...I can somewhat agree with Johnston...the chips are flying but the tree is not coming down...

Did you see Kunitz whiff on the wide open net again and again? He belongs on the 4th line! Put Sid and Geno together on a line! - at least Disco had the guts to try that when things were bad.

This is his hand picked team that Rutherford said was built for the playoffs. Lmao.

Spaling - 1 goal in last 26 games

Perron - 3 goals in last 26 games

Comeau - 4 goals in last 27 game

Winnik - 2 goals in 21 games since coming to Pittsburgh

Lapierre - 0 goals in 34 games since coming to Pittsburgh

So much talent and only 1 championship.

that means absolutely nothing right now

It seems only yesterday, Pens were red hot prior to trade deadline and appeared to be jelling....then in one move they handcuffed the team cap-wise for the rest of the season and lose our most improved and physical defenseman in Despres - that's on management

and poor Letang - I fear his career might be over.

Buffalo has clinched the bottom of the barrel, they have nothing left to lose for now and just gave Columbus a battle.

Better hope the Bolts beat Boston in regulation.

What an epic nosedive. I would be actually shocked if they beat buffalo.

Even if they do, and it's kinda humiliating if they don't because almost everyone makes the playoffs in the NHL, does anyone really think they're good enough to get past the first round?

It would be nice to see the Pens take out the Rangers

If I had money to bet and I don't, I'd take the Rangers in 4 and the Pens average .5 goals a game in the series. I don't know what it is, but they just can't score and the Rangers are built for a long and healthy PO run. I don't think it will be close.

Rape the baby Pens of everything that isn't nailed down - bench Kunitz, Adams, Lovejoy Scuds and come out flying with fresh young legs

Looks like 1st game Thurs at MSG

They definitely should bring up Demoulin (sp.) from the baby Pens..

no salary cap in playoffs to worry about...The fresh legs on defense will definitely help the current "Fab 5" that have been carrying the heavy load...

We need Fluery to get crazy hot in this series to even have a shot to go 7..A hot goalie has carried low seeds teams far into the playoffs before..

Oh BTW...did I just see a Penguin fly?

Harrington and Doumilin(sp) will be ones brought up. With Letang done for the year, they need all the Dmen on deck.

MAF does have to get hot, but Malkin and Sid has to step up the scoring. Johnston has 3 days to figure out a game plan against the Rags. They have to protect their net, watch the odd-man breaks and get to King Henry.

I'd add Kapanen to the list of "bring ups"....I've always defended Adams but keeping him on the bench to occasionally kill penalties is dumb so they could make room for all three. Did y'all catch the crazy assed stat that Domoulin and Chorney were together on the ice in SWB for only 5 goals all season there? That's insane!

Some end of regular season observations.....it's completely amazing how badly utilizing only 5 D affects an entire team. I couldn't figure out at first why the Pens were looking so gassed late in games until I thought about this a little. It basically forces most of the forwards to double shift. Add in that you no longer have any D that you can rely on to skate the puck out of the zone and up the ice. Only ONE of those 5 D are used to big ice time to boot.

Cole has been much better than I expected him to be and think he'll be a nice addition. Has a heck of a shot and made a very smart play last night tangling up a Sabre to keep him in the zone causing the neutral FO.

There seems to be saran wrap on the goal mouth lately (the run of ****** luck I referenced earlier). Luck could change in a heart beat and if it does things could look very different.

Why does it seem like every other team collapses in front of their goalie and blocks so many shots and the Pens rarely do? Or am I imagining that?

Ah well, at the least, 4 more. Let's Go Pens!

WBS players eager for possible NHL playoff call-up

WILKES-BARRE — When news broke last week that the Penguins were considering replacing a couple of underperforming veterans with prospects in the playoff lineup, word spread across the state in record time. And why not? Young players in Wilkes-Barre probably would give a digit, maybe a limb, to have a chance to compete for a Stanley Cup. This was the kind of news they wanted to hear.

Bobby Farnham: He has toned down his agitating antics, taking only one penalty in his last eight games, but has continued to play with speed, physicality and energy

Andrew Ebbett: At 32, he hardly is a young, exciting prospect, but if the only criteria is AHL performance. He is 2nd in the league at 1.12 points per game.

Jayson Megna: He moved from third-line right wing to top-line center seamlessly. He has five goals and six assists in his last 12 games.

Scott Wilson: His offensive production largely has depended on the quality of his linemates, but he is competitive and has a strong all-around game.

Bryan Rust: His speed and consistency play well at the NHL level, but he just is getting back in the lineup after suffering a lower-body injury Feb. 21.

Kasperi Kapanen: An instinctive offensive player, Kapanen had 21 points in 41 games as an 18-year-old in the Finnish league.

Oskar Sundqvist: A rangy, two-way center, Sundqvist had 19 points in 41 games in the Swedish league.

bring them all up - Harrington and Dumoulin too

yep, bring them all up. Half of the players on the big club are not cutting it. Bennett, Adams, Kunitz and Lapierre should be picking splinters out of their keisters.

let it be just the beginning

Penguins Recall Defensemen Brian Dumoulin and Scott Harrington

CCaWFpnW8AAhGZC.png

Both players have spent a majority of the season helping WBS allow the fewest goals (153) in the AHL, while also seeing NHL minutes in Pittsburgh.
Dumoulin, 23, scored his first NHL goal in Pittsburgh’s 4-2 win against Tampa Bay on Dec. 15. In that game, both Dumoulin and fellow rookie Bryan Rust scored their first goals.

Dumoulin has played in 14 NHL regular-season games the last two years, posting two points (1G-1A) and a plus-1.

Harrington, 22, saw the first NHL action of his career in 2014-15, playing in 10 regular-season contests, beginning with his NHL debut on Dec. 18 against Colorado at CONSOL Energy Center.

Well, they made it in on the ineptitude of the Bruins and the hapless and directionless Sabres. Congrats? I guess? The good is that they can call guys up and maybe the Rangers will take them extremely lightly. Who knows. I won't hold my breath for any thing amazing though.

Well, not expecting much from them. Maybe they will surprise me. I doubt it though.

Maybe they are playing an extreme game of possum. Limp into the playoffs and then BAM! They knock off the Rangers, Habs and Craps to the Finals. Genius plan of wolf in sheep's clothing.

They are all but left for dead on this season. I have not given up all hope, but i also expect very very little. Fluery will have to play the best of his career and the offense will have to stop ******* around and put it in the net..A LOT!

For the first time in a long time, there really isn't much pressure on the Pens, they are going in as heavy underdogs. Malkin is badly banged up, Letang's season over, roster depth generally inferior to the Rangers to begin with - yeah I can see why Rags fans would be cocky.

All the pressure is on the Rangers, and of course, we won't lose to a lower seed this time, ha.

No expectations = nothing to lose. Just gonna watch some hockey and hope for the best. Let's go Pens!

Shock the world

The WILD drew the Blues in round 1. Could be quite a battle. Former Pens D-Man Bortuzzo is laying out the hits for the Blues. Could be quite a series.

May the team with the hot Goalie prevail. Duuuuuuubnyk!

Pens have their hands quite full with the Rangers. Not a done deal for NY as the games still have to be played. Pens need to steal game 1 if they're going to make a run.

I wish the Pens had some toughness for the PO run. It would have been nice to have a Dman or two that could hit. Oh well, some teams have it and others teams trade it away.

Thursday night on NBCSN Pens at the Rangers followed by the Wild at the Blues. Going to be a long night.

If they could somehow knock off the Rangers, I'd consider the season a success, even if they get swept in the next round.
