Pens Hockey 2021?

I was grateful to hear Mike Lange call the game. I'd bet this is his last year. For the youngster's listen in and catch one of his broadcasts before it's too late.
The Pens will see he has a light workload. He should be done in 3 more games....

I just heard he's not calling the next home game and as you know he hasn't done away games in awhile. Hopefully this wasn't his last game but I hate to say it, I didn't see anything today to make me think otherwise.

Just one game but NY kept hitting ,pinning Pens against the boards and the Pens just let them control to many pucks. Some of thee long passes weren't even close in th e third and overtime. Two different team knowing NY waits and then bounces seem to be the call today.

Did I mention I hate 12 noon hockey games? Whose fn idea was that?

Second mention goes to the esteemed Gov Wolf...Is Covid going to be less "infectious" tomorrow when there could have at least been more fans in the stands to watch a lackadaisical team play?

Some hope from Mike Lange when he reminded us that the 91 Pens lost each first game. Ol 29er didn't sound as optimistic in the post game. I think he knows as well as us that this team doesn't have "it".

Not sure why you guys are writing us off already. It was a long layoff and might just need to shake the rust off. It could be a repeat of previous years, but not going to write them off after one game

This team most likely wouldn't make it out of the East anyways....I am fixing to get seriously disinterested in Hockey in a few more games.
Enjoy this core group while you can. Once Sid/Malkin/Letang are gone. It’s going to be the early 2000’s all over

I expected as much with the layoff. If this plays out again on Tues., then the Pens are done. But I expect things to change for the better and they even this series.

It’s not so much writing them off. It’s the consistency of mistakes in Sullivan’s system. As a coach he should be able to fix those mistakes.

But like the Steelers when it’s a recurring trend every season. That’s where the doubt creeps in

If the Pens will have any chance, they better get physical. Get Angel Eyes out there. Hell put the big guy Zahorna back out there..Put Lafferty out there, he'll hit anything that moves.

Mario: No let's put finesse players on the ice, they flow so nicely... F that. Augggghhh!!!

You said it. My sentiments exactly. I hope I'm being too pessimistic but after that first goal, it was like:. Same ****, different year all over again...I fully expected the Pens to come out out of the gate like a bunch of fn rabid dogs. They looked like a bunch of flightless birds just flopping around with no fight or direction.

Giving up 4 goals at home in the very first game just blows. Not when I've seen them play differently for most of the season. They really need to win the next 2 games.

They have looked bad in games after a layoff and then come out flying the next, a few times this year so I guess we will see.

The Pens just cant seem to adjust to the beatem up rough style of game the Isle's play...Its groundhog day every time they play.

I hope they come out of the gate swinging.
If they fold under physicality next game. I’m writing them off until Hextall and Burke make some offseason changes. Hextall and Burke will make sure this team can stay speedy but also get some physical guys. Sid has one more cup in him

Maybe but is it with the Pens? Gotta give something to get something.

Sid is retiring a Pen. I cannot see the guy in another logo. He’s captain Penguin
Edmonton fans probably thought the same with Gretzky.

They were fine until they started getting hit. Looked great most of the first, kinda meh in the second and a train wreck in the third. Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck beat the **** out of the Pens the last two periods without retribution. The Pens just don't have a physical player outside of Tanev and he can't do it all himself.

Pens had plenty of chances, some real dandy's that I'm not sure how they missed, but same for the Isles. Game two is a must win. They have to make a statement. If they whimper away like they did today, the series is over.

MAF had no help today and lost 1-0 in OT. He made great saves all game long but the offense couldn't score. Love to have him back.

I turned off the tv after our game. Glad I didn't watch the second game.

I don't expect the Pens to win. They're soft, sporadic, and complacent. I'll be shocked if they can push the Isles to game 6. Jarry is an average goalie and the Pens aren't physical or talented enough. I watched every second of those back to back cup wins. Those teams were tough, physical, and fast. They'd dump pucks and chase. They'd cycle the puck for minutes in the offensive zone. The defense was strong up the middle. This team just doesn't have that. Their style is to get the puck up the boards and try to spring someone. They don't hit and they aren't particularly fast. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't see this team getting that far.

I'd have to agree. Winning in the regular season is a whole lot different than winning in the post season. Those years after the 90s cups were exactly the same. Just different players.

It's always befuddled me that Mario knows that some level of size and physicality is necessary to win. He had it back in the day his teams won the Cup. How can he think it's not part of the game and makes for a complete team. Check the heights and weights of his winning teams. Most were in the 200 lb range. This team is pretty much dwarfs those cup winning teams.

Probably. I think Sid is a Pen lifer though. Hard feat to pull off in hockey, playing for one team.

Hornqvist is playing for the Panthers. Damn they are fast and physical
