I have bitched about Tomlin from the start because I did not think he was worth a flying **** at a rolling doughnut when hired. I still do not think he was when he was hired as he was handed a great team and only produced so so results. I do not care about the record. I will stand with the question that all the balchinians have never answered in eight years, what does he do well, or to put it another way what does he bring to the table.
I then had the outlandish theory that the Rooneys may have decided to not hire an accomplished coach but one with potential that could be developed into the coach they wanted. He would be inexperienced but they had a good team and good coaches at many levels and were likely one of the few places where a coach could be developed in this fashion. I have heard he was recommended by Tony Dungee if that is true that is quite a recommendation. While following along with the Steelers and MT one could see where he has gone from looking like the new kid in school trying to pick out a place to sit for lunch to the guy that is quietly becoming a leader on the team. He has not met with success at everyone of his endeavors but has with some. He is continuing to try and improve things and has gone as far as bringing back players from the Cowher years that have some life left.
In short he has finally brought something to the team that we can see this season. He is bringing focus and preparation to the team expressing that everyone will need to be prepared and involved to get better. He has brought focus to the team game and not the stats game a message that is echoed from all of the guys on the team. He is finally showing evidence of developing as a head coach and keeping his team in the games mentally. He may now be on the track of development and once on that track can continue to get better.
I do not think he was good when hired, but I think he is showing that he can be and if he continues he need not stop at good. The difference between me and the haters who ever they are is I can see improvement where it exists, the difference between me and the balchinians is I can see the flaws and the areas that need improvement and talk about them. The whole haters gona hate thing to me is nothing but a crutch to be carried around by a bunch of pampered under achieving excuse makers who toss that out to justify failure and lack of effort. The real deal find your short comings and improve them, don't make excuses, don't blame someone else look with in and get better. Two good examples of this William Gay and James Harrison. Both have looked at what they needed to do to improve and done so. Both are understated in taking credit for their accomplishments this year and have not been blaming anyone but themselves for their areas that needed improvement.
So that has been my position on this guy from beginning till now.
Did you ever consider you might be wrong?
