And it ain't gonna be cheap. State's he's top 5 CB (agreed). Knows he doesn't have Int but highlights lack of TD'S against, success vs. Targets and declining penalties. Choice is pay the piper or trade him with a first minimum in '27 in the very important QB draft. What say you?
And you might be looking at North of 32 million.

Id trade him for a first in 27 and 2nd in this years.
Yep. And in my humble opinion this attitude sucks balls. We finally get a top 5 CB. We’ve been screaming for one for years and years. Let’s trade him away in his prime. 😳

We’re a team of average to a hair above average players. With TJ the only superstar whose ship has sailed from that status.
Let’s just continue to sign FA’s well, well, past their prime who once had that star status. Maybe we should trade Joey JR and sign him when he’s in his 30’s as a FA on the cheap. 🙄
Mann oh Mann.

Idk boys, this one may be tempting. I certainly can see both sides of the argument here but consider this…
Could you lure a team in like the Jets for their number one in 27 and their 2’nd this draft? Afterall they need to replace Sauce Gardner and may bite.
Draft Porter’s replacement with the second round pick this year from Jets.
Next year most likely that first from the jets will be a high pick and could be used to draft our QB.
Just thinking out of the box here! Paying him 32 million or better on top of the horrible contract given to Watt concerns me.
What say you?

Posts like these is a reminder how long it's been since the Steelers have drafted and developed good enough players to re-sign. Signing JPJ is a no brainer. Look at the top teams in the NFL this season:
Seattle - Witherspoon
New England - Gonzalez
Denver - Surtain
Rams - just traded for McDuffie

Top teams have shutdown CBs. The Steelers have one and they should not give him away.

I think you have to pay him. We probably won't be strapped to a big QB contract for a few years still so may as well sign the good players we have. I think porter played pretty well and I'm hoping in a different system it will allow him and others to really break out

Pay him - top 10 salary, but not top 5

We’re in this ****-ing mess because our previous Coach & staff couldn’t develop a player (that wasn’t already great and some say even they took a step backwards).

I think MM and staff will be seeing developed players that get 2nd contracts, a rarity from previous staff.

I know that doesn’t answer JPJ question, but his is a little defined from our past. We want players that make the second contracts, but also don’t want to over pay or be held hostage.

This proclamation of his (son) is originated from the dad.

I say pay him, but to a degree of derivative and incentive based.

Mahomes has an incentive & roster based yearly into his contract, maybe a similar approach is warranted.

Salute the nation

It's hard to add incentives like in a QB contract, they don't have the ball on their hands to direct plays , they are completely dependant on the other team's playcalling

I was simply looking at salary and a way to get another pick in rd one in next year's draft. Someone sucks balls around here, but it's not due to one guys idea.

First of all, there's only three cornerbacks in the entire NFL making 30+ million dollars a year: McDuffie, Gardner, and Stingley. The #4 guy makes 25 mill. So "looking at North of 32 million" would be asinine for Joey Porter, a guy who just figured out how to stop grabbing and getting penalized after 2.5 years in the league.

The Steelers are already paying a lot of money in the secondary for Ramsey and Dean. Ramsey has an 8-figure dead cap number for the next two years, so dropping him in order to retain JPJ at 30+ million would cost them well north of 40 net. Plus we all know about TJ Watt's $42 million cap hit for 2026 and 2027. It's just not financially feasible to spend that much more on an already overpaid defense.

If they can trade Porter to a bad team for a first-round pick in 2027, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.

Hes going to be top five minimum. You routinely see lesser QBs make bigger dollars then true franchise guys. Hes north of 30 million for sure. Im assuming he will be highest paid at position once inflation is included.

Just no, he may get a price around twenty APY. It’s just not going to be here. You don’t reset markets with inconsistent seasons.
