Remember the good old Cowher days?

I think the underlying point is that Cowher still built/rebuilt the roster a few times, 12 or 13 different starters in the 95 Super Bowl compared to what he took over, then he turned it over late 90's then again for the 04/05 run. We are in year what for Tomlin 18 and we're still waiting for him to build a contender, there's no way to argue the his best years as a coach were with guys he didn't draft, and coaches he didn't hire.
Absolutely true and valid. But we can say that without disparaging the Super Bowl championship in '08.

At the Ice Cream Castle I would have the option of multiple flavors, and maybe some new ones that I have never tried. I guess I opened the thread to see if there was a new flavor, a new argument. Alas, it's still just the same vanilla it's been for the last 15 or so years.
If Tomlin wasn't amid one of the worst post season stretches in NFL history, you probably wouldn't hear much about Cowher.

It's a subject that's been beaten to death. I don't disagree with any of it. I'm sick of the same horse shat regurgitated over and over and the bashing of shades and the bitching and moaning. I like Steelers football. I can't even come here and read stories opinions or ideas without captain cranium chiming in with his same culumnies over and over. . New guy comes in and says same **** we endure daily here . I made a sarcastic comment about it. Then it's dragged up 7 pages later. So yeah , wtf.
I agree with 99% of the sentiments voiced on the forum about Tomlin, cowhers players, tomlinship etc. I just HAVE to choose not to dwell there because , well it sucks there .

Try putting the perpetrator on ignore, it will make a difference.

I was the 1st one Lloyd put on his ignore and I’ve been a happy camper ever since !!!!!!

My point was kinda like Noll left Cowher a great foundation that he built upon,he left Tomlin a championship team, which has just like you said regressed to what it is now. Which isn't very good at any one thing and certainly great at nothing.

^^^^^ TRUTH ^^^^^

Tomlin has done the least, with the most.!!!

Yeah he only won one Super Bowl, but we were competitive when we made the post season. You're not saying anything new, or groundbreaking. You don't even need to try to convince me that we should move on from Tomlin. My only point was this...at one point, this discussion turned to "What will Tomlin leave for the next coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers". Because there was one new member, that tried to use the "well who else out there is better?" excuse.

We know Tomlin inherited a franchise QB, and a lot of his success can be directly tied to Roethlisberger. Much in the same way as Brady and Belichick. Noll left Cowher some pretty good building blocks. They may not have been superstars at the time, but there was a foundation. Cowher left Tomlin in an even better situation. Not only was there a foundation, but several stories that only needed to be refinished.

So what does it matter what Cowher did with Nolls players, or Tomlin did with Cowhers players? What is Tomlin going to leave for the next coaching staff?

Gilbride had 10 top-10 offenses as a coordinator, 11th once as well, and was an OC 10 years before Cowher hired him, 10 more after he fired him. That is a damn sight better than Tomlin pulling Fichtner and Canada out of nowhere, neither was OC before coming to or after leaving the Steelers.
So true, I never was selling Clown-lin as putting better anything than BC put on the field. His best teams were BC's to begin with.

I had him on ignore, took him and a few others off...and much like in my marriage, I'm questioning my life's decisions...

We have toughened him up since he put me on ignore, early in his coming here.

You’re going to have to do something pretty big to get put on his ignore.!!!

I think he takes **** for that Super Bowl because he won it doing the exact opposite of what he's done the majority of his career.
1. he didn't have to build the roster
2. he had coaches in place and they were allowed to coach their system

what we've seen from Tomlin is everything has to be done his way, and that hasn't worked at all.

When Tomlin ran off Dick LeBeau, that was the start of what we now have.

That was .the first true sense of the real Coach Tomlin. Imagine running off the best DC at the time, in the NFL.

Nah, as long as he is allowed to throw up retardedness all over the board, I'll be here to point out his absurdity.

yep that was the exact point all this started.

God I loved those days, so much better than Clown-lin, not even close.

And when LeBeau played "soft cushions" in coverage and we were carved up people here were saying the game had passed him by and he needed to get on with his lifes work.....I remember clearly. Not hassling you and not saying it was you that wanted D.L. gone, just saying we are a fickled bunch....LOL.

We can say that the 08 team could barely handle a 9-7 weak Cardinals team if not for a miracle from Ben/Santonio....that is documented.

Where one wants to lay the blame for that, is open for debate.

That was the weak spot in the zone blitz scheme, a weak spot that the patriots exploited and showed to the world. Unfortunately, Tomlin took that weakness, and doubled down with the 2 DL tampa 2 concept added in. We might be a fickle bunch, but I'd take LeBeau and his ancient scheme over what we have now. Teams wouldn't be able to run against us at least.

I hear yaz Gildong Sack and don’t dispute the nay-saying.

2010 - #1 defense
2011 - #1 defense
2012 - #6 defense
2013 - #14 defense
2014 - #18 defense
1-10-2015 resigned

Many here have said Coach Tomlin started his hands on in 2012. Dick L. Said they were ignoring replacing the talent on defense. Dick resigned instead of the continuous battle / play interruptions / soft scheme incorporation / etc.

His pass rankings weren’t nearly as bad as you think. That’s a different egg to cook.

EDIT: “the mob is fickle”

we played soft cushions because that's what Tomlin wanted, I remember everyone saying the game passed LeBeau by, we play to much zone etc. Then he "resigned" went to Tenn and they ran the 4th most man coverage in the NFL with LeBeau.
