Report: Aaron Rodgers Is At Steelers Facility On Friday

He is getting close to the age his dad was when he retired right?
I don't know that Dan Rooney retired, he got appointed Ambassador to Ireland by Bomma.

Agree, but Deuce will take the open ridicule of the franchise because he will not, no way, no how, be the Rooney who fires the Steelers first Rooney Rule hire.
Never gonna happen. Shades will be here as long as long as Shades wants to be here or until Deuce retires, whichever comes first.

I see when the torch is passed, almost an immediate firing, might be a forced to wait one year later thingy.

Shades gets paid enough that they'd have to let his contract run out.

The main goal is for Tomlin to reach the 200 win total for regular season. It will be an iconic plateau. Of course along the way to that number Tomlin will pass Noll's number of 193.
Marty Schottenheimer doesn't get any respect for barely making that prestigious 200-win list. Neither should Tomlin, if/when he drags himself and the Steelers there.

Rooney will think it is special.

So more and more rumors tgat Russ is still seeking a contract around 30 million dollars... that, more than anything, explains why the team moved away from him... they probably offered whatever Russ asked for to Rodgers... its probably lower than what Rodgers wants unless he hasnt got any other options...

Coach Tomlin gets way too much respect for his current epitaph.

He squirms into that 200 club and he will garner the 200 praise compiled with the never a losing season as well.

We are ****-ed, but will acknowledge him with the empty pudding box.

You know that the Steelers had already satisfied the Rooney rule when they interviewed Tomlin, right?

Not sure how anyone could argue that Grimm was the better HC choice in hindsight.

Rooney will think it is special.

The entirety of national sports media will declare a national holiday, similar to Festivus because of Tomlin’s pole-like coaching tree, and they will air grievances that Tomlin didn’t have great rosters the last 10-12 years while ignoring that he was largely the guy responsible for building them.

Hindsight is hard with Steeler coaches. Do you think if Tomlin went to a rebuilding franchise not known for their undying patience with head coaches that he’d have the same success? He might just be a footnote in the Browns or Jets or Raiders coaching history.

Also, you’re correct that the Rooney Rule obviously doesn’t mandate that they keep him, but it’s all about the optics. The namesake of that rule is not going to fire a black head coach under any circumstance, especially one that is so highly regarded nationally, and I think Tomlin is well aware of that as he continues to exercise his ever accumulating power to build exactly the team he wants.

And right now that includes groveling so that a soon to be 42-year old QB can help him maintain his non-losing season streak.

I don't think Tomlin would have been as successful without Ben. QBs >>> HCs.

But I don't think he would have been out of the league in a couple years like Grimm was.

We don't fire coaches.

Noll was amazing in the 70s. But did we fire him when we were terrible? No.

Does anything think Cowher would have ever been fired? I don't think so. Job for life. Particularly after winning a SB. But he walked away.

The mission statement of this team is try to make the playoffs every year. Then hope lightning strikes and you win a SB every once in a while.

As long as a coach does this (just like Tomlin does), he will have a job.

Because that's what his boss is asking him to do.

Yes but hiring a minority is a better look when the rule is named after your family.
As far as I know, Grimm never coached again in the NFL after leaving the Steelers and it was strongly rumored at the time that he had a drinking problem, so I’m with you there.

Marty is the only eligible head coach with 200 wins who is not in the HOF, due to his lack of playoff success.

Noll was never credited for being amazing, nor did he have to be. Nolls players were amazing,
If Noll could coach the group we have now to a Super Bowl he'd be amazing.

Cowher would likely be in this situation without the special class going in when he was working for one of the two main companies that pay the NFL bills.

I think Noll was a great coach for that era.

I agree with you if your arguments are (1) no one could have coached our post-Ben injury teams to a SB and (2) Noll would likely not be an above average coach in the UFA era where you need players to buy in and you can't amass as much talent as those 70s teams had under the cap.
