The Pittsburgh Steelers have suffered two tough blows on tampering day. Outside linebacker Bud Dupree and offense lineman Matt Feiler have signed contracts with the Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers respectively:

Bud Dupree confirms to ESPN that he's agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans on a deal among the highest-paid pass rushers in the class. Still working out number of years on the deal, that's not done, but will pay him more than $16M per year.

Former Steelers OL Matt Feiler reached agreement on a three-year, $21 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, per source. Chargers further strengthen O line.

Dupree’s deal will pay him north of $16M a year, while Feiler’s will pay him an average of $7M annually. Although it is tough to replace their talent, Pittsburgh will most likely be rewarded compensatory picks for their losses.

We wish Dupree and Feiler all the best in their next step in their careers, and thank them for their contributions in the Steel City.

I hope no one is surprised by the money choice of these two players. It's about earning power and injury, maximize the first and minimize the second. Loyalty has LONG been gone from the NFL for a long long time. Can't blame either one as the STEELERS were never going to pay that kind of money.

PS Thanks for the details Seawn

Wish them good luck, glad they didn't go to a division rival

Nope, follow the money Drink. I am a bit surprised by what Feiler got on the first day. To me he was ok and best spot was tackle but I suppose being able to swing to guard increased his worth. I’m not sorry to see him go but am sorry to see Bud move on but completely understand it.

Interested in what it does compensation wise.

He had a nice stretch before he got hurt. Before that he was just another body. Their contracts aren't guaranteed. Like every other sport. I'm never mad when players make financial business decisions, teams can cut them on a whim. All that said, Stevie Wonder knew this was coming on Bud. We are damn good at finding WR's and LB's, they aren't going to over pay him, or JuJu. As for Feiler? he's just another body, and replaceable. Let it play out, we have to get our cap straight and see what happens.

So we basically got one year worth talking about out of Dupree... he pretty much sucked his first couple years
One and a half....

honestly that deal is great for him... he wasn’t the highest rated ifa by any stretch of the imagination... banking over 16 million in a depressed market is an extremely great get for him... i hope he has a stellar post Steelers career except when he plays us.....

That's two comp picks for the Steelers, Dupree being a third. However, I don't see him playing out all 5 years with the Titans.

The “draft your team” scheme where you draft ruff cuts like Dupree based on size n speed develope them only so your rivals can sign them to mash you with needs to be rethought. The NFL, like life, is always changing, what worked yesterday probably won’t work tomorrow... you have to have a coach that is a great play caller and wylie... that can take any group of playres and fashion a team around. The notion you can just load up on number 1 and 2 round draft picks is goofy. Especially when you barely make playoffs or get a horrible beat down the first game. a good coach can get you that far with a bunch of rag tags. Redskins were as good as at the end of the season with a qbs fresh from grad school. What was Ben earning? how many picks he throw? Geez us next year is already looking shity. Why didn’t they just clean house? blow it up? Keep watt on defense Canadian bacon on offense and flipped the whole roster maybe keep Haywood probably fritz, but start over... we couldn’t cuz at end of day we have no one in front office with a true vision of what this team should be starting with jr down to tomlin. We are still using a road map lauded out by bill cowher a hundred years ago it’s time for a reset people.

The NFL announces that New England Patriots will receive a 3rd and a 5th round compensatory pick because the Steelers lost Bud and Feiller

sounds about right to me
Fortunately, with their FA spending, Pats aren't getting a comp pick this year.

Good job for Bud. He didn't get the $18.2M/yr he was valued at, but coming off of an ACL and getting $17.5M guaranteed for 2yrs is fantastic! Plus he's averaging $16.5M over 5yrs, so great contract for Bud!

To be fair, if we didn't have Watt(who we drafted and will keep), we'd have extended Dupree, can't pay two OLB's 40 million dollars per.

I view Dupree as a loss by circumstances similar to Bell a couple years ago. Bells would have never got to FA if he didn't have a weed problem. He gets a contract with one year left on his rookie deal. Same with Bud. But instead of weed it was performance with Bud. They hedged a bet on him by picking up his option. He exploded that year. So now he is in a huge deal situation. The Steelers only option was to tag. Now that could have created a contract, but he was like I'm guaranteed something like 15 for 2020 and I hit the open market in 2021. It is what it is. Bell worked out for the best with Steelers. Bud got royally paid. Outside of health I don't really hope he plays great.

When he disapears they will be hard pressed to keep him. I see year one .......slide down some, year two disappearance.........no year three

I wish him well but a little of his success is familiararity of OUR system,......... OH and TJ WATT.

To hear the folks at SteelersDepot tell it, Watt is only good because of Dupree. I LOL'd.

If they can’t afford to retain them, you want them to go with deals like these. Juju and Hilton next up. Let the comp picks roll in.

If you are an OC who are you going to double? I'm not going to say no effect on Watt's production, but the Steelers have enough threats in their front 7 to just key on Watt. Bottom line, most of the time he has to beat the same tackle to get to the QB as he did with Bud.
