So just playing around with the salary cap on spotrac and by cutting WIlliam Jackson III, Chuks Okorafor, Myles Jack, Trubisky, Witherspoon, and Gunner Olszewski I saved $41,093,136 with cap space of $37,204,249. With that kind of savings I realistically believe we could do the following.

CB Cam Sutton- 3-year 23 million with 10 million guaranteed.
S Terrell Edmunds- 2-year 6 million with 2 million guaranteed
ILB Tremaine Edmunds- 4-year 44 million with 20 million guaranteed. Or Germain Pratt same contract as Edmunds
ILB Bobby Okereke- 3 year 9 million with 3 million guaranteed.
OL Jermaine Eluemunor- 3 year 15 million with 5 million guaranteed.
QB Blaine Gabbert- 1-year 2.5 million with 1 million guaranteed.
WR Richie James- 1 year 1.2 million with $500k guaranteed

This scenario would get us Sutton and Edmunds back, upgrade both ILB positions, upgrade our RT position and can play Lt in a pinch or either guard position, gives KP a veteran QB who is ok with being a backup and who backed up one of the best and learned from in Gabbert. And Richie James is an upgrade over Sims or Gunner. This leaves us with just under 4 million in cap room or if we push bonus money out a little easily over 7 million for rookie contracts.

I think you need to add 4M to the sutton deal and make it a 9M avg with 14M guaranteed.

Terrell Edmunds will probably cost 4M avg at least.

But aside from details it looks like a fine plan ahead of the draft though I'd add another safety, hopefully kazee and a DL player as we would be losing Larry O and wormley.

I went off Spotrac market value numbers. Who knows how accurate they are but it gave me a good baseline to go off of.

You are hired! Work with Omar and find a way to trade Canada for draft picks or combo of cash and beer.

I agree with Litos guess on Sutton and Edmunds projected value vs spotrac and I don't think they'll release Okoafor before the March 15th date when free agency starts and teams need to be under the cap. It leaves the Steelers at an extremely vulnerabe position at RT. Okoafor is not a bad RT and even if they can get a guy like Eluemunor to agree to sign between 13 and 15 March, he's had one decent year and now must learn a system that seems to have taken our entire OL a half season to become respectable.

I'm not trying to throw a wet blanket on your overall plan to improve. Jackson, Gunner and Witherspoon can all go. Cutting Jack leaves us in the same void at ILB, we are undoubtedly parting ways with Bush and need to re sign Spillane as insurance. If you're getting rid of Jack you go back to the cap deadline and must have a commitment from Edmunds or Pratt to sign on the 13th.

To resign Sutton and Edmunds and pick up a stud at ILB, they'll definitely need to send Trubinsky packing and readjust some star contracts (pushing money owed to next year).

But if we cut Chuks, Jack, Trubisky, Gunner, Witherspoon and WJ3 we have cap room. Lets just say we only sign 1 ILB, Gabbert, James, and Sutton. We can still use the draft to get perhaps a Brian Branch at 17 for Edmunds, Dewand Jones at #32 for Chuks, Jack Campbell at #49 for Bush/Jack (remember we still sign one ILB) and then grab Jake Breeland at #80 to compete at LT with Moore.

That'd be a solid offseason. I could see all those moves happening other than Okorafor. He's still young and I think they'll give him another shot. Although, as well as he played early in the season, his play over the back half of the year really fell off.

I was about to say I don't think they get rid of Chuks. That is the one that would shock me.

I don't like going into the draft forced into selecting players who may or may not be ready to start in the NFL and hope he can avoid injury. I understand the current trend is to expect immediate contributions from the first pick or two. I'd rather we keep what we have and draft a good OT, we also will need another CB even if we resign Sutton either in the draft or free agency.

I'd love to resign Sutton, Edmunds and bring Tremaine or Pratt on board. Unfortunately we're tight against the cap and making some additional room by creating another hole becomes a gamble and I don't see the front office going that way. If they can make that scenario work by reworking some contracts and cutting some of the guys you mentioned I'll be on board.

Trubisky, Gunner, Witherspoon and WJ3 those are four cuts that the team shouldn't lose sleep over. Then you can free up tweak some Watt money and have enough to do what they feel is needed in free agency.

We will see how they feel about Witherspoon… he was hurt in that first game and basically was hurt all year long.. they may still view him as the better of the two between Wallace and him…

Sutton is going to get overpaid as ufas do… i bet he gets closer to 9 than 7…. Which is always the issue with free agents… the top half always get grossly overpaid

I don’t either that’s why I would push to fill holes with veteran players before the draft. So see offseason above then have that exact same draft. Nothing wrong with it.

The players you're selecting with your first three picks seem to be reasonable as well as good value where you have them slotted but we're woefully exposed at dl and cb is thin. I realize there's no easy fix.

If he can just “GIVE” them “ O’Canada and throw in gunner for free………….. Maybe we need our one and only……

Coach to come back and work this deal.

We definitely could go CD or DL earlier. All depends on how the draft falls. But we could go Riley Moss at #120. Only reason he will be here at 120 is he's white. But if you look at his last four years of play he allowed QB ratings of 41.7, 83.7, 55.1, and 82.7. They predict the 6-1 192lb CB will run in the 4.41 range. So definitely enough speed. He has 11 int's and 26 PD's in his career so he has been productive. Get a Tyler Lacy at 236. 6-4 295lbs and might not get a ton of sacks but in his Junior season had 37 hurries. He plays his best in my opinion at the 3-technique and could push for playing time immediately with Leal and Loudermilk.

Yep Slash. I have no idea why that even has to be thrown in the conversation.

The LUXURY S10 is green, so I don’t think he was trying to match up with it………………

im no chuks fan. But cut chuks , who we putting in that position?
Risk vs reward. Cutting him leaves a big hole to fill at tackle. But it’s not like we won’t have options. Chuks was the 61st overall tackle last year. Cameron Fleming was 29th and that’s with 374 snaps coming at LT. He made 1.27 million last season. Yosh Nijman ranked 54th with 200 snaps at LT and spotrac gives him a 3 million dollar value. Jermaine Eluemunor ranked 21st and spotrac says his value is 5.6 million. Then there’s always the draft. We could sign a vet like Fleming and then draft a guy like Dawand Jones.

Okorafor is just 25 years old. For part of the season, he played quite well last year. Do you think a young player with 5 years experience can still flip the switch and develop into an above average tackle or at this point do you think he is what he?

His biggest asset is youth and experience. That said I think he is what he is at this point. A below average RT. I think we could plug in a cheap vet and get the same or better production. I personally have Dewand Jones as a top 15 player in this draft but the other analysts all have him as a second round pick. If he’s there at 32 we can draft him and now have a 21 yo with upside to be the best RT in nfl history. Yes, that’s his ceiling. Chuks is just a guy.

Like re-signing Sutton, but avoid spending so much on Edmunds the LBer. Really prefer being conservative with cap $$, using the draft to build since you get so damn much bang for the buck. I can live with spending a combined $12 million per season for Pratt and Eluemunor ... but get used to yelling at the TV after another holding call on Eluemunor.
