'Fair Wage' Pizza Shop Gets Slice of Reality. It Closes.

A Boston-area pizza shop got a rude slice of reality when it attempted to operate by raising the wages of its workers far above the normal working rate: it closed down.

In 2015, the nonprofit organization Haley House, in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, decided they would open Dudley Dough, which would function according to the non-profit’s ideas of economic justice and fair wages.

But now, Bing Broderick, executive director for the Haley House, admits the shop just couldn’t make it in the capitalist world; the shop is losing money and posing a danger financially to its parent organization.

As The Boston Globe reports, Luther Pinckney, a team leader at Dudley Dough, protested, “I don’t think anyone is looking at it as a failure. It’s an experiment, and some very good things came out of that, such as skill-building for staff and being in this building at this time of gentrification and change in this community.”

Even with the $100,000 that Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, donated to Haley House, specifically for Dudley Dough, Dudley Dough sank. The Globe notes, “Three other restaurants opened in the area around the same time as Dudley Dough and are still operating.”

The website for Haley House boasted, “Dudley Dough seeks to challenge this status quo by pioneering a new model of worker empowerment in the restaurant industry, offering living wages and profit-sharing opportunities to help our workers overcome the economic disadvantages that are an unfortunate part of the current reality.”

In its promotional video, Dudley Dough states, “The idea that we have, to take whatever profit we are able to generate and share it with the workers …”

It turns out that if you can’t compete, there isn’t much profit to go around.

No surprise there.

You lost your job, dumbass, because socialism doesn't work. It was a total failure. **** you, **** Dudley Dough, **** Haley House and **** Robert Kraft.

Liberalism at work

Brawl between transgender activists and feminists leaves police searching for suspects

A video of the event published on social media shows the alleged victim, Maria MacLachlan, filming transgender activists who had reportedly gathered to protest a talk titled ‘What is Gender? The Gender Recognition Act and Beyond’.

The trans activists are seen carrying signs featuring the acronym TERF – trans-exclusionary radical feminists – and heckling the attendees before the incident broke out.

The incident comes as tensions between certain feminist groups and trans groups, respectively, continue to rise. Trans-exclusionary radical feminists believe that trans women shouldn’t be afforded the same rights as those born female.

how does the same side, pursuing the same interest, get into a fight?

Speaking as a former business owner who has actually written checks for payroll and to the government, the thing people don't realize is that if you double employees' pay from $8 an hour to $16 you're not just doubling wages, you're also doubling the Federal, state, and local wage taxes, the Federal and state unemployment taxes, workers' comp insurance, any other expenses related to payroll.

For example, in my little company the workers' comp insurance was 11% of payroll and $1200 a month because we were in a relatively risky line of work. If I double the rate of pay it now costs $2400 a month. My employer share of FICA was around $800 a month so it would now be $1600 (plus an equal amount withheld from the employees' pay). State unemployment tax was about $1600 a quarter, now it will be $3200 a quarter. And if I charge double then I will have less customers.

Deuteronomy 23:1

"No one who is emasculated or has his male organ cut off shall enter the assembly of the LORD"

Well that pretty much leaves Tibs and Effie out

Yep. And by the way, if you charge double, you won't have less customers - you will have no customers.

That's nothing. How about those basic income for everyone nuts?

I watched one of those restaurant shows and they were saying to make money you basically need to charge 3x the price of the meal to make money. If a meal costs $6 to make then you would need to charge $18. If costs / pays are doubled you are looking at paying $36 for a basic meal. Things like steak seafood you'd probably be looking at $100 per plate in a decent restaurant.

I have said MANY times before, this “livesble $15/hr wage is being driven by the Fed. Government to increase tax revenue. Double the wages, double the taxes. Keep the tax brackets the same and move people from 0% taxes up to paying level. Government raked in a ton more taxes while reducing expenditures.

Why does the bible have to take something that is just common sense and explain it?

Of course without a schlong you can't enter the lord....pffff...how little he thinks of his followers intelligence.

I've heard that even if you have a schlong you can't enter the lord because he has an inoperable butt plug wedged in there.....read the bible, you'll get it.

inoperable butt plug

That should be your user name. Yes, yes indeed, I can see it ...

"Inoperablebuttplug says ..."

Hahahahahaha, who cares what that shitbag says?? Her name is "inoperablebuttplug"!!

I would post this on my sisters Facebook page but she unfrended me for speaking the truth about Crazy-B and his plan to increase the deficit $1T a year. I have explained to her about 2 dozen times that you can't pay a worker $15/hour to do a job that generates $8/hour in revenue, and this story illustrates that perfectly.
