Solutions to NFL dilemma?

Call the Bills and say Wednesday is the game, you there or not, with forfeiture in mind.

I want the player to heal and be well, but the rest of the world needs to toughen up. He’s getting the BEST care possible weather the game is played or not.

You can’t penalize the rest of the teams, the play must go on as scheduled.

The STEELERS Played 3 games in I think 12 days, so suck it up.

Salute the nation

This is what they should do, and then the Bills should look at the long term picture and forfeit, but that won’t happen because it would cut into profits

The NFL said the game will NOT resume this week and they have made no decision on if it will. This came from Rappaport and the NFL on Facebook.

I was in my FF championship with a 40+ point lead. My opponent had Higgens and the Bills D. I had it in the bag. Now, I don't know what they will do other than make us try to play the championships in the last week of the season. I am assuming all FF leagues will have to do this.
I am the commissioner in two leagues. First league the one guy had all his guys played (my son) and was losing. The other guy still had Higgins but it didn't matter since he had the lead. Season over. Second league I had a 30 point lead with Burrow left and he had Bass and Higgins left. I just took total points active and bench as I have two IR spots I didn't bother replacing and he had all his spots with active guys. I increased my lead. He is pissed I told him to pound sand. Season over.

My commish is pretty clueless. I am sure he will make us play next week, which is what I am guessing the default Yahoo decision will be.

Look, they just need to say the bills forfeit that game… as harsh as it sounds, it was tgeir player and they were behind… you cannot force tgat game in next Thursday or Wednesday, then have the team or teams play a playoff game on Monday night … that is just insane and a huge competitive disadvantage … calling it a non game screws Cincinnati , which typically I love, but it sets a bad precedent… Cincinnati won…

Now that totally ***** Baltimore over, but I am ok with that lol

Yeah. Last week just isn't fair to play. If the game was close I would have been more open to suggestions but with a 30 point lead that increased to 38 before stoppage I am not budging. It is the last year of that league anyways.

I would say there is much more at work here than arbitrary time lines or what the Bills think. The NFL has already said its not thinking about the reschedule at this point (Though we all know they are). If they say play tomorrow or forfeit before the end of the day today, they are going to get ****** trashed in the court of public opinion. So your timeline or mine........ That simply is not happening.

Anybody looking for a perfect solution will be disappointed. The two choices are:
  • Have them play the game tomorrow and adjust the other games.
  • Not play the game and adversely affect the entire playoff structure.
If the Bills forfeit, okay. But at least the 31 other teams are not punished.

I think the biggest thing for the Bills players is getting right mentally to step on the field. It will be tough enough next weekend. Can’t see it happening any sooner.
I'm not trying to be a douche here, but we had our Plant Manager pass away unexpectedly the week before Christmas, aged 44, who had a wife and kids. Sucked big time and sent employees home the day we heard (Friday). We were open on Monday. At some point, professionals have to be professionals and move forward. Damar is recovering, which is great, so let's move forward.

I don't disagree with you. If the league says play this week and they feel they need to forfeit, I can respect that.

Yeah but you have to take into account tge wear and recovery time a game requires and look at how close this is to the playoffs… if this was week 9, reschedule it how you can and have the teams mitigate the after effects as best they can through tge end of the season… but now **** that game… thats why forfeits exist…

yes but they didn't play 7 innings....no way I see this as an outcome they didnt even play a full quarter
They decide OT with as little as two possessions and I never had a problem with deciding it after one. I feel for the Bills (and Bengals), but the idea of upending the entire NFL schedule over one game is ridiculous. Either be able to play 7 quarters in 5 days or forfeit the game.

Buffalo will scream for the lost home game potential, and the tougher playoff opponent. They could actually end up playing in Cinci again, because of this. I doubt they would agree to a forfeit when the NFL made the "call" to end the game without significant consideration given their potential losses economically and strategically.

My guess is that the NFL is polling all owners about funding a pool for Buffalo to get the economics worked out to their satisfaction, and for the strategic seeding loss to be comped with a draft pick. I would be very surprised to hear that the NFL, many years in operation, with Covid issues very recently, does not have somewhat advanced contingency planning....for some sort of unexpected event that cxl's games.

What if the power went out last night instead? We would all want the Bungles to eat/suffer all costs, but the problem of "fairness" would remain.

How is one situation close to the other..OT you have already played a full game...not a full quarter you have played not a full quarter..to try and compare the 2 situation is ridiculous

Bills forfeit? How is this any different than my idea of calling the game?

Now going forward in future seasons, the league should absolutely schedule a week in between the playoffs and regular season… it gives them an excuse to go to 8 teams in the playoffs and eventually expand again… like they have been planning to eventually do since rodger got in.. everyone gets a bye week that can be used for emergencies like this…

So the final week play games up to Sunday night like always, but don’t start games on Saturday, start them the next Thursday night… the two number 1 seeds play on sunday, the two number two’s on Saturday, the 3’s on friday Night and the 4’s on Thursday, giving them the least time off

This gives you ample time for emergency rescheduling a game without massive repercussions

OT is decided in one quarter. Both teams had at least one possession and the Bengals had the lead. It’s not entirely fair, but it’s certainly more fair than what sounds like is being considered as the alternative.

I find it amusing that in under 24 hours, many people went from a unanimous “who cares about football” to a “there absolutely has to be a timely and fair way to resolve this football game! It’s that important!”

31 teams are absolutely not punished. First off half the teams are in the NFC and have nothing to do with it. Then there are the eliminated teams. Then there is the winner of the AFC south which is the only team that makes the playoffs in that division and automatically seeded 4. So you are down to Chiefs, Bills, Bengals, Ravens, Steelers, Pats, Dolphins. If you go winning percent Bengals and Ravens would be immediate effect. If you played all games of consequence at 1pm eastern, Steelers, Pats and Fish would have fair opportunity.

The issue is this…
If they declare the game null, there is no way for cinci to leapfrog KC or Buffalo on winning %… they needed that win for tiebreakers, also if cinci lost that game, the Ravens were in a win and get the division scenario next week

If they called it a tie it was more or less the same thing.

If they have Buffalo forfeit, all three of tge top teams still have something to play for going into the final week, but it does eliminate the ravens from tge AFC north…

The Commish could make some edict like for competitive balance, the ravens week 17 results will not be factored in to the afc North standings either, making that final game a winner take all match… but he doesn’t have the balls to do it

The NFLPA will also have its hand out, looking for $$$ to get their endorsement on player bonuses, player safety, unintended consequences of not completing the season, etc.

For all we know Jerra Jones/Biscotti and the NFLPA could have been the reason it took the NFL so long to call the game last night.

In OT both teams know that time is limited. The players have a different mindset. The strategies are different. The play calling is different. Nobody knew that this game would end so soon.

Eff that....this isn't baseball.
Then don’t suspend the game indefinitely.

“But some things are more important than football and it had to be suspended.”

Agreed, then it’s not that big of a deal to just call the game and proceed, is it?

So you think that starting a game in the first quarter, where both teams are expecting to play a 4 quarter game is the same or equivalent to OT.
