Solutions to NFL dilemma?

Since the NFL is just gonna pull **** out of its giant collective ***, with no basis in prior planning, with the assent of the teams involved, here is my suggestion:
Step 1) Make the game a tie at 0-0 with compensation to both the Bungles and the Bills for the lack of opportunity--by NFL decision--from net league proceeds. No one wins, all lose a bit.
Step 2) Retroactively award the Steelers a W and the Rats an L for the horrible ******* decision that wrecked the Steelers season in 2020 -- by arbitrarily taking a W from the Rats and awarding it the Steelers this season. Both teams win next week and are in the playoffs, and only the evil ****Pats lose.

I dont blame the NFL . Theyre handling it as best they can. Life goes on. The guy is in the hospital. Hopefully making a full recovery.

If i were commissioner, i would do like DIC said,, THe game is to happen weds. Pick up where it left off. If you choose to forfeit , you forfeit.

Most creatively stupid solution from bengal land lol… give all three byes and eliminate the 6th and seventh teams…🤦🏻‍♂️
Or, give all Top 3 Teams byes in each conference and expand the playoff field by two teams in each conference. Extend the playoffs into the Super Bowl Bye week.

Does not solve Home Field throughout the playoffs in the AFC. Upsets do happen.

Mo playoff football, Mo Money.

OT is decided in one quarter. Both teams had at least one possession and the Bengals had the lead. It’s not entirely fair, but it’s certainly more fair than what sounds like is being considered as the alternative.

I find it amusing that in under 24 hours, many people went from a unanimous “who cares about football” to a “there absolutely has to be a timely and fair way to resolve this football game! It’s that important!”
You find it amusing? You always find a way to get a little poke at people,no matter what the situation is.

I find it quite normal. Most people were in a bit of shock that this is happening before their eyes. It’s emotional, people will say all sorts of things. And then upon reflection, shock wears off, people realize life has to go on.

I put in another thread.........Sudden Cardiac Arrest claims 350,000 lives a year. That translates to 958 lives a day.
9500 student athletes die a year from this. Which translates to 26 a day. A day.

When I read these stats I realize actually how commonplace this type of thing happens. And really,it was only a matter of time that this happened at the workplace of a live NFL game. I’m in the construction industry. Looking at these stats I can guarantee you that over the years thousands upon thousands have more than likely died at work at a construction site. This player was lucky that if this had to happen,it happened during a live broadcast nfl game. Highly trained personnel on the field 10 seconds after he fell. Ambulance there before 5 minutes were up.
How many of us would have been that lucky at their work spot. Silver linings.

These players are also in the fortunate position of let’s face it....having enough money and security to take time off.
Certainly many are not in this position.

What I shudder at listening to not all,but some of the talking heads on TV or Media platforms a day latter is that narrative that these players put their lives on the line to entertain us. What a bunch of hogwash.

What I really thought about in this situation, was the people that came out from the ambulance,or whoever started the CPR right away. Those people deal with this day in day out. Can you imagine? The things those ambulance responders must see every day. The absurdity of the NFL contracts compared to the money these people are paid.
That’s really what I find disturbing.
Anyways. Just a bit of rambling.

Back in the good ol days of semipro football and early college a metric to of serious injuries happened leading to the rules we have in place these days… wanna know why you can’t spear… you saw it last night, how about why you cant jump on someones back wearing cleat? If you want to know why the offense has to stay still till the snap and all movement has to be side to side before that, well imagine a ballcarier with a ton speed from getting a running start fifteen yards behind the play slamming into a defensive guy charging full throttle at him … mostly before pads and helmets… how about why it’s illegal to sew handles onto the uniform of a small player and have a couple big teammates heave him over the LOS for a first down? Yeah that doesn’t end well either lol… this kind of injury is extremely rare because the rules are set up to really minimize the chances that it happens

If they don't play the game on Wed, which seems unlikely, then the least bad option may be to play this week 18 as normally, then give all playoff teams a bye and only the Bills and bengals would play in week 19. Then resume playoffs normally for week 20. You would then eliminate the bye between Championship week and Super Bowl.

Disagree.
Two points:
The young man may make a full recovery.....Others didn't, but the game was finished. While I get that watching this felt different for many, was it really much different than for Shazier?
The young man played for years at Pitt, like Kenny. Why does this affect the Bills more than the Bungles or individual Bills players more than other teams' players? Why is this dramatic and traumatic injury different?

As DIC pointed out, the young man is getting the very best treatment, thankfully.

Given that he is in good hands and may make a full recovery, right now it may be no different than Shaziers.

But as it was happening, I felt it was different. No heartbeat and on deaths doorstep. How do you go even on had he died? I would imagine the players desire to play would have been severely diminished had he died...unlike other injuries, even severe ones that are not death threatening in which players become united, giving them the urgency to win one for the injured player.

People have officially started losing it over this. I saw some woman on ESPN say the NFL should postpone this weeks games citing 9/11 as precedent… 9/11!
They have some goofy thinking.
So if a police officer gets shot and killed in the line of duty. Should they just all quit and go home?

The same thinking could be applied to firefighters and the military in combat.

Something similar and maybe worse on the field happened in 1997 with the Jets and Lions. The took the player by ambulance and resumed the game. Keyshawn Johnson said it was brutal trying to play after that but they did. Not saying they should have played Monday night but there is precedent.

Most people aren't conditioned to handle the events that unfolded. Good on them. Keep your innocence as long as you can.

Kind of gives you a realization of what deployed troops go through. Guess what, you get up the next day,, mourn and drive on.
And that shows. Deployed troops should make more than what pro athletes make.

On a practical/logical level in life. Sports are just meaningless entertainment.

The actual professions who make this country run 24/7 often go unnoticed or are severely underpaid imo

Athletes are not of the same mindset as an officer, soldier or medical personnel who are seeing deaths daily.

I get athletes do hard training, but at the end of it all. It’s just a game. If they lose, they’re still getting paid their salary.

As a cop or soldier. You lose. That’s it. You’re dead.

As medical responder. You do your best to save a life. But losses happen. These people have watched babies die and have to continue on.

This is why I don’t invest emotionally if my teams win or lose. Cause the players are still getting theirs regardless of outcome

So in short they're coddled, mentally soft and pack it up when things are not in perfect order.

The wrong people are being paid ridiculous sums of money for what is clearly a meaningless job.

Coddled since high school. And yes the wrong people are being paid ridiculous amounts of money.

Even college athletes are getting paid ridiculous amounts of money.

That's the best solution, and it's like the game didn't happen, but doesn't affect either team in the standings greatly. Neither team asked for this situation, so let them play this weekend and let the seedings play out. Short weeks are not ideal and not too be too insensitive, but they have had time to gather themselves now that Damar Hamlin is stable and getting care.
I look at this as similar to the Ryan Shazier injury. It was horrific and we didn't know if he would ever walk again, but the team and fans went on. This is all bigger than football, but the league has to go on. I would hope Buffalo WANTS to go out there for their brother and bring home a championship for him. This is new territory and have never seen a player need CPR on the field. I think the NFL handled this the best way possible given the circumstances. I'm sure a lot of people will give them **** no matter what they decide is best.

Doesn't a tie clearly benefit the Chiefs? They would now jump the Bills and it also provides them zero chance of the Bengals leaping them in the last week of the season. The same Chiefs who lost to both the Bengals and Bills this season.

If the Bills forfeit they lose the #1 seed and the bye week but then this would be their bye week.

My wife is a director of a NICU and former NICU nurse. She has witnessed many newborns die.

People aren’t paid based on the importance of their jobs but rather the economics related to them. That’s just the way it is.

I said it the night it happened, people going on and on about the game not mattering will be singing a different tune when they look at the standings and see what kind of effect this has on the playoffs. It's one thing if these were two bottom dwelling teams already eliminated from playoff contention, just call it however and move on, no harm no foul, or play the last game sometime after the playoffs start since it doesn't matter. This is a bird of a different feather, how if they make it a tie, it can still effect home field. People don't like to deal with the feels and the facts at the same time, but while that dude was there fighting for his life, time didn't stop. I think they should have postponed the game a lot faster than they did, because I knew if that thing continued that night, those players were all going to be off their game, but what they do next has implications for all teams, and for what they do next time this, or something similar happens.

Correction- we as a collective society have chosen to pay based on things other than how important a job is in society.
