Steelers 1st & 2nd round options by TMC

Spence has been tested a ton at Eastern Kentucky and failed 0 tests. He partied with Ecstasy, and no longer hangs with that crowd. He wasn't an addict.

That might be the case but with the issues we already have on the team I wouldn't want to add another potential headache. Just my opinion. If im wrong, so be it but I just don't see us adding another potential headache. I would think in rounds 1-4 we need to not only be looking to fill needs and best players available but squeaky clean players as well. I'm with all of you when I say just improve our team with players that will contribute and not be suspended off and on.

the love affair in Rd 1 for LBs didn't start with Tomlin. WJIII may not be there when the Steelers pick, if he is and he is BPA he should be selected if DL is BPA they should be selected...

Yes you are correct but Tomlin has taken it to a whole new level.

We won't take a DL that high. It's not in our wheel house. And for those talking about Spence..... he's already failed 2 drug tests that forced him to transfer from Ohio state to eastern Kentucky. We will not pick spence. We already have enough problems on this team with drugs. Second with drug issues we will not take him that high
The pick will be a linebacker but it will not be spence.

We won't take a DT/DE in 1 huh?

I wouldn't be against it.

If indeed the best value is there, Why wouldn't they?

They need a NT and a DE to rotate, that would eliminate one need...........

last three years have been LB...with Timmons that is 4 LBs Hood and Heyward make two DL(which makes your earlier comment seem a bit off base) Castro and Pouncy make two OL and Spindanfall for the lone RB in round one under Tomlin....

Like I said further into the conversation I'm no draft expert but I just don't see us taking anything except a linebacker in round 1. Then a corner in 2 and a dl in 3. Hey whatever they do to improve this team I'm all for it. I'm just giVing my opinion based on Tomlin and his past drafts. Again, improve the team, idc how.

I stand corrected, I forgot about Hood because he was a bum. You are correct, we may draft a DL.

Not sure how 4 out of 9 years drafting a LB first matches up against Cowher...but 3 straight does seem a bit much....

BPA is all I really care about....hopefully it is my guy WJIII

Jones and Bud fell down to the Steelers.

Problem is with yinz theory is this year there isn't really any value IMO sitting there at LB or even in the range to fall IMO.....

This is a weak OLBer crop.........

Cowher use to bounce back and forth. He would go offense one year and defense the next. The exact stats I do not know but I do remember it going back and forth. I'm with you on let's just improve our defense. It's in dire straights and if we want number 7 it has to be done. I'm glad they blew up that patch Adams squad they had in that secondary. IMPROVE THE DEFENSE! AMEN BROTHER!

had to check and we were both off...;roughly 75% of Cowher's 1st rounders were on offense and none of the defensive picks were LBs (3 DBs and Casey Hampton))

so while I know they draft a lot of LBs, the last 1st rounder I saw prior to Tomlin was Robin Cole in 1977

I dont see WJ falling eithier take Apple or A'swawn and go after Xavier howard or burns in rnd 2 and Kiillisbrew in rnd 3 or cash

when I first starting pimping WJIII most of us thought he was likely a reach at 1:25, not many don't think he will "fall" to the Steelers in the 1st round.....who knows how the draft will pan out

Hell just 2 months ago Fuller was supposed to be a first rounder...

I don't think there are reaches in the lower half of round 1, just beauty in the eye of the beholder.

The difference between #18 to #50 is really just shades of grey, fit with systems and background checks. It will be interesting to see how the FO approaches this draft as there are going to be a ton of WTF moments. Thankfully they have got glaring needs throughout the roster plugged in FA agency, as usual, so that we can be flexible and take someone like Dupree if they fall even if that wasn't the original plan.

I have to say I would love to spend a draft weekend in that war room. It would be fascinating.

WJIII seems to be this years Marcus Peters. I was hoping for Marcus Peters last year and most had him as a late first or early second but he start ted climbing up the draft boards a couple of weeks before the draft. I am seeing the same thing this year with WJIII.

I thought the Steeler way as of late was to go after a preseason top 5 talent that somehow amazingly falls to us and in shock we race to the podium to grab the guy that just couldn't have possibly fallen to us...Will Jack is the opposite of this, he must come off our board.

This is my problem with the whole thing: Imagine if there was an ignore function on the message board.

I was doing some looking at my profile and the profile of others and I found that there is a ignore list function. All you have to do is click on the person's profile and click add to ignore list. So my question is why didn't he just do that?

I stand corrected, I forgot about Hood because he was a bum. You are correct, we may draft a DL.

He started 80 games here had 140 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and is still in the league. Not Aaron Smith but not quite a bum.

We are in sub package football so much that a guy that will be on the field 30% of the time cannot be taken in rd 1, just my opinion.

Maybe they only use 2 defensive linemen in the sub packages because the others just aren't that good. I'd rather have Dupree, Tuitt, rookie DL (Billings) and Heyward on the field when in the sub package than trying an undersized Jones or James Harrison, who is near retirement.
