Steelers -Colts game thread

We got punched in the mouth early.
The entire team got their a”” kicked in The first quarter
They all must improve next week

well if you stop the other team from scoring early then it makes it easier on the offense....

sorry the D **** the bed
I agree. What you're saying is the flip side of what I said. The only difference is in this particular case with Highsmith out the offense could have helped to lessen the pressure on the D. Anyway we'll never know. It's done.

Everyone blames the D because that is simple. If you score points early it changes the complexion of the opposing offense and logically plays into your defenses hands. That angle is so often overlooked.
They scored early because the defense was a revolving door, it’s not “simple” it’s a fact! When the majority of your payroll is spent on the defense, they had better not surrender 17 points on the first three drives to one of the worst offenses in the NFL. If you think otherwise, it’s you that is simple.

A big chunk... around 68 million of that payroll was on the sideline injured. It is simple.

I wouldn't say the Colts are one of the worst offenses in the league. They have a great line and good skill players.

Their QB play was questionable going into the game and it looked a lot better against the Steelers than it probably is. That's a problem, though Richardson and Flacco did make some great throws.

Sometimes you have to give the other guy credit. The Steelers pass rush was a non factor for most of the game, but many consider the Colts to have the best OL in the league for a reason.

Our offense sputtered, turned the ball over, made dumb mistakes in big moments and sh*t the bed at times.... but, even with all that, put up a decent number of points. They'll get it together. I'm not too worried about them just yet.
The defense was a major part of this loss. I'm not saying anything you don't already know but, the defense needs to get a lot better. That effort today, minus a few plays, was crap!

Wilson will be a sitting duck back there with his gimpy calf or whatever it is. Will he crumble when pressure gets to him? Be aftaid to step up....or roll out? You are just throwing bullshit out there saying Fields misses open guys...slow on reads. The last 2 games the annoucers have praised Fields on his reads and decisions but you and a few others say the opposite from your TV view of the action. Laughable actually

You are simply speculating on what Wilson would do or not do. He is 35 coming off a current calf or some are saying Achilles injury. I would not count on anything Wilson can do until he actually does it.

With Fields we are actually seeing what he can do.
Fields impressed me on some plays and made me scream on others. He has improved but particularly in the first half he was missing some open guys and or not taking what is there. I am totally on the fence right now between him and seeing a what a HEALTHY Wilson could do if not healthy I am totally comfortable staying with Fields. And I watched both of these in person not on TV. Again, he has improved but he still has a long way to go in refining his game. I don't blame fields for this loss our defense is too thin right now and they were gassed early.

Missing some guys as in not seeing them or missing them as in throwing the ball missing them? He was 10 of 13 in the first have with a 9 plus yard avg per attempt.

if that is ALL you look at, I agree with you. What Im thinking is that Wilson would have done more in the 2nd and 3rd quarters than Fields was able to do because he can actually diagnose a play and make a decision faster overall because of his extensive experience. So we might not have needed 2 rushing TDs like we did from Fields because I dont know what Wilson would have done in the middle of the game.

My fear would be that IND was running around with their hair on fire and would have sacked Russ a couple times. But Justin with his speed got sacked because he holds the ball too long. It goes back and forth. I can see both sides. Justin on the last scoring drive was impressive. He was decisive. The botched snap just cannot happen. It just cannot. Najee, who plays so so very hard, just killed us with not getting out of bounds and I like to think that he is smart enough to know that. Cant understand why he did what he did.

Ultimately, somehow I hope we at least get a glimpse of Wilson at the helm of the offense to see what he can do. I do not think one should lose a job because of injury and maybe now that the winning streak is over, Russ will get a shot. I totally understood not wanting to upset the apple cart so to speak while the team was winning but thats over now. Should be 4-0. Needed to keep stacking wins vs lesser teams because of what lies ahead at the end of the season.

last thing is that that penalty on Minkah just killed us. I was proud we came back, but we held them and should have gotten off the field but a horrible call gave them a 1st down and a chance to get 7. The refs have to be better than that. That effected the game big time.
Not throwing the ball away soon enough is the biggest problem I've seen with him so far.

And can they please defend/cover a slant pass play just once?!? Maybe they don't get to see enough in practice from our offense. Flucko hit them all day.

I'd like to add what I've noticed for a few years now...we still do not seem to scheme wide open receivers to the same degree I see in other NFL games. If you watch other games, there are WIDE open receivers on more than a few plays. I'm not saying it's every play, but there are some for every team, most definitely some for our opponents each week.

That is the product of not having a number 2. They brought in every scrub known to man and a WR that should be parked down by the river instead of lining up opposite Pickens. Austin has shown flashes of being an ok number 3. But the room is severely short on receivers that can constantly separate. Scheming scrubs open probably isn’t the easiest task.

This team needs more playmakers at the position.

Agreed! Also, when in Zone and the WR squats 5yards in front of you don't just sit there...CLOSE THE GAP!

How many times have we seen the RB slip out of the back field and we have no one near him for over 10 yards? They have our ILBer drop so far back into coverage.

This, investment on return………… this defense has been lacking for quite some time in that regards.

I think it’s the philosophy being implemented, same “D”, same Highest $$$, same HC, same results. Where have we ever finished top 5 or 10 and actually was feared by Play Off teams ???

Salute the nation

not seeing better options quicker. he still has to learn to throw people open. He still waits for college open too often on shorter throws. deeper throws he is pretty good at it.

You and a few others keep saying this over and over. Do you have access to film? Besides just watching on TV?

I watched the last two games live in person. It is painfully obvious when you are there that he still misses things when you are seeing the whole field. I said he has improved, quite a bit but particularly early in the game both last week and this week he has been hesitant to throw the middle and outlet routes. I know those are not his strength but as much as we complained about check downs, he is missing some wide-open ones that would gain positive yardage. But he is also getting better.

And yes, I also have NFL+premium with the better game footage.
Well please share these extra angles and footage where Fields holds on to the ball too long....slow to process reads etc.....if you are able to that is. We are 3 and 1. Fields was leading us in an amazing come from behind win until Frazier snapped the ball early....we all saw the results.

Pickens fumble. Tomlins 4th down attempt. Porter's 2 int drops.....fumble by Richardson we didn't recover.....our horrible defensive play and calls by our DC all game.....zero running game...also add in some horrible calls by the refs......or non calls....Watt was held again all game.

And still some want to put the blame on Fields....who possibly could have played his best game ever. Go figure. Yep....Wilson with his 35 plus old body and his bum calf/achilles would have won the game for us....even though his last real game played was when?

Hard pass!!!!

Did you even read what I wrote? I it sure doesn't seem that way.

Yep. Read it. You have nfl premium or something. Show us some clips of Fields.......not being as good as Wilson. During every game you post the exact same thing. Show us some clips? Also...is NFL+premium give you different looks during the game when you make the exact claim weekly....or is it something you seem after the game? Curious is all. Seriously though. Show us some clips of your claims of Fields being subWilson. By the way....Wilson has shown nothing since he signed with us.

I have watched a bunch of games live......probably not as many as you or others....lets say Fields......so you are looking at Fields in the pocket....pressure coming....his first read....2nd read ...3rd read....pressure still coming....you see all of this live in person and come to the conclusion that Fields lacks everything? You know all of his reads? His progression on any given play? Even when Batch breaks it down he states he is only going on hypotheticals. And he has game film to look at. You ate watching live and figure it all out in a blink of an eye. Good for you. Maybe your buddy Tomlin should hire you on to the staff. Couldn't hurt anyways.
