Steelers Hiring Arthur Smith as new OC

I've read all the vitriol about Pickett amid the complete dismissal of the bullshit system he was forced to run. I'm not sold on Kenny at all, nor am I sold on Moore being absolute ***. I believe entirely that a new OC with a pro game plan and blocking assignments will help in more ways than one.

That said, I'm hoping we take Mims or Latham at 20, our next decades-long Center in the 2nd and Florida State's QB Travis in the 4th.

That would hedge our bets and only make us better - even if Pickett makes a complete growth to a legit NFL QB.

yeah, but Travis is recovering from a leg injury. he'd be a late first early second had he not been hurt.

It does not "guarantee" it but in case you missed it, KC is doing pretty OK having Mahomes at QB. I haven't seen a running game trip him up yet.

Granted Mahomes is Mahomes but KC is actually a pretty strong running team right now. I doubt they're in the Super Bowl without that.

What "facts?" The ones I destroyed as fallacy? You said "great QBs could be beaten with a running game." I brought up Mahomes as a known exception to that stated trend. And now you moved the goalposts all together to KC having a running game. That's a non sequitur. There is no logical track. All over the place.

I cannot speculate who turned them down. I am saying Arthur Smith is Tomlin's guy. He owns him. Anyone think Mike Vrabel is a ****** coach. I do not. But you are responsible for your hires. This one needs to work out. They should have been replacing Tomlin himself. Another botched OC hire should end him.

Well if they extend Tomlin 3 more years this summer, then we are pretty much stuck for 4 more years.

Pick up a journeyman for emergency QB and use the draft pick for any of our many other needs (rOT, OC, DL, ILB, CB).

He did wonders with Tannyhill, revived his career. Also got some good production out of some other offensive players.

They wanted a been there done that and someone to mesh with their run philosophy.

I don't hate the hire but don't love it either. If he comes with an improved Oline coach I will consider it a win.

This was my reaction as well..meh. I wanted Kubiak, but I think the possibility of Tomlin offering him the job drove him to retirement

Simple fact is we don’t have the QB’s or OL to run a high flying west coast offense. Upgraded running game to take some pressure off KP may be the way to go.
There are a bunch of VERY good QB’s in the AFC so we’re not getting to a SB any time soon regardless.

That’s a sad reality, but if you think about it, with this coaching staff and a HOF QB, we never sniffed a Super Bowl in quite some time as well.

Yea...agreed. that is the problem...so many needs. which is why i would not want to use a mid rounder QB who isn't likely to get a chance as anything more than 3rd string.

Unless you get a first or second round QB, i think another "open" competition at the spot isn't going to happen. Just my cynicism perhaps.

I’ve stated on here at least a dozen times over the years that if it was up to me I would have gotten rid of the whole staff....including Dick Lebeau the day after they lost to Tebow in the playoffs. But they didn’t.
I don’t want him extended ,but we all know he will be.
I’ve been on the side of he's been here 17 years had his picks of OC and DC and for me it hasn’t worked out.
As far as I’m concerned the Canada hiring and needless retention is unforgivable and grounds for dismissal.
So let’s make that clear where I stand on CMT. Things got stale and it would do both parties good with a fresh start. I’ve said that for quite sometime as well..

Let's not forget probably our biggest need is on the DL and there aren't many to choose from this year. The Steelers have avoided drafting DL high for way too long. Benton will hopefully improve but Cam is winding down his career and Ogunjobi may be cut. They need to go DL in Round 1 or 2.

Yes I would've hired a young offensive mind, and then brought in Kirk Cousins. QB is the most important position on the field, Kenny isn't the guy, we aren't going to beat Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, etc. with a 2 TE, run first offense, and hoping Kenny doesn't mess it up, that's why we've been doing the past two seasons. Cam is 36, TJ will be turning 30, Minkah is already often injured. We can't play this game where the defense holds teams to 16 points and we wait for the offense to come up with that one drive. Pickett has started 24 or 25 games already, how much more do we need to see, especially when Mason stepped right in and looked way better than Pickett ever has? So after next season, it'll be "well this was Kenny's first season with Smith, he needs another year in that system"

I would have terminated the entire coaching staff and started from anew. Kahn and Weidle both would have a heavy hand in hiring but I’d also have the “NEXT” heir-apparent involved as well. It would be a grooming so as the new majority owner could be involved and accountable to what things would be like in the soon future. I would also realize that this is the first step of Art2 taking his first step away from the team.
