Steelers Hiring Arthur Smith as new OC

Until the offensive philosophy changes significantly, the pigeons will continue to be safe. Everything we wish for as fans will be for naught.
Maybe they'll average 19 points a game this fall. They need to coach to a players strength and develop those strengths, anyone believe that will actually happen?

Depends on which Smith we see. The Titans or Falcons version. Which is why it makes it a difficult assessment.

Smith will operate under Tomlins thumb. I hope he can do better than what we've seen.

What "facts?" The ones I destroyed as fallacy? You said "great QBs could be beaten with a running game." I brought up Mahomes as a known exception to that stated trend. And now you moved the goalposts all together to KC having a running game. That's a non sequitur. There is no logical track. All over the place.
Kc does have one of the best young RB in the league, no Mahommes would not be in the superbowl if they were relying on clyde edwards helaire. Pacheco has been a night and day difference.

Just depends. If they feel they can get better QB play out of one of the two perhaps. If not adding a third option loads the horse gates and it's off to the races.
There is no such thing as a 3-way QB competition; Cowher said it and he was right. It's hard enough to determine the starter out of 2 QBs, you never really allow a 3rd QB into the competition, a 3-way QB competition doesn't actually exist. Cowher said it in 2022 and he was proven right. In reality, it wasn't even a legit 2-way competition, it was always Trubisky's job from the start if we are being honest. They were never really considering allowing a true rookie to start and Mason was never given a real look to begin with. It was all a big lie to start with. One big Tomlin facade. And Mason was NEVER given a legit look from the start.

I am not locked into grabbing a QB as late as 4. All on board at BPA. If one is available 1 or 2 that is fine by me. Give me BPA at T/C/CB/WR/ and QB..
Yea, but Rooney already went on record saying he thinks Kenny is the man at QB, and his opinion matters most. It's gonna be Kenny or bust so don't expect a QB to be drafted other late.

But less and less these days; I have never seen our fan base so low about its head coach in my life. Never.
I liked the Tomlin hire
Even was ok with him through the years
as a HOF QB kept us competitive and hid his many warts

As Ben aged out all the warts became very apparent tho
HC never evolved even though given tons of time to
Without a HOF QB to carry him and his stale messages and ideology of days gone by there is nothing left to mask the warts

Other than the blinders on deuce

Best we can hope for is to be a little better, win a playoff game, and not suck.
The Chefs, Bills, Bungles, Ratbirds, Jags, and Texans are going to be better than us for a long time to come.
So you’re saying there’s a chance…

To compete for a seven seed and early playoff exit, with help

Winning Tomlin style

I often wonder...

WWDD?

I’m trying to look at what they got in the here and now. I know you don’t believe Kenny is the answer ( I’m not convinced either) so what are you proposing this off season?
We are sunk this season: We still have the "pee-in-your-pants" Tomlin in charge of things, including the offense which means maximum protection of the football at the expense of opening up the field which would open the running lanes. It's gonna lead to no real rushing lanes opening up as opposing Ds will know to just clog up the 3 yards from scrimmage. And, no, we don't have a Henry in his prime or a solid enough OL, so, no, Smith's prior work as OC in TN won't be replicated. It just won't. We have a head coach who is terrified of turning the ball over. After getting his @ss beat in Buffalo, the 1st comments out of his mouth were "You can't turn the ball over or this is what happens."

He's that simple-minded. Nothing said about trying to win with an offense that cant score, not to mention can't make 1st downs. Nothing said about a defense on the field that can't tackle and allows a QB 52-yard rushing TDs. No, Shades was mono-focused on 2 turnovers as to the main cause of the loss. And that's what we have to look forward to. He thinks the way to victory should always be a 13-10 win. And since his mind is that simple, we are doomed to be middle-of-the-road, get destroyed in the 1st round of the playoffs team. NOTHING done in the off-season will alter that. They are going to force-feed an inferior QB on us, with an inferior game plan brought to you by an inferior head coach. We may be 7-2 at one point giving the ignorant masses some hope, but it will be fools gold. The wins will be hollow and fleeting, propped up with a defense which will be on its way to being worn out as the offense won't be pulling its own weight. But Tomlin will still be thinking that we will win with zero turnovers and a stingy D; @ss clown thinking.

And perhaps even more importantly... do not forget the terrorists Kenny had/has for wide receivers.
Those f*cks are awfully goddamn slow and drop a lot of sh*t for all b*tching they do - so much so, the situational running back called out the team for more discipline! JFC. Stop running on routes, drop ridiculous sh*t that hits you in the hands, give up blocking: and then no one says you don't have what it takes to play in the NFL!

Next year we'll have to watch the play-action pass to 3 evenly-spaced sit routes again i fear. Maybe the OL will be so good that Kenny can sit back there for 4 seconds while he waits for the WRs to run themselves open?

I'd say over 1/2 the AFC will be in position to be better than us in 2024. Some of these teams may falter due to injuries, etc. but the following have real chances of being better than us:

- KC
- Balt.
- Cinci.
- Houston.
- Miami.
- Browns.
- Bills.
- Jags.
- Chargers.
- Denver.

Don't disagree with a word; I also REALLY liked Tomlin when he was hired. I thought he brought in exactly what was needed and maybe he did at the time. But 17 years later, the fan base and lack of HOF QB have caught up to him. He no longer has Ben to save his @ss out of his mornic decisions. And Tomlin got too caught up in reading his press clippings; he actually believes that crap about how great he is.

Yes I would've hired a young offensive mind, and then brought in Kirk Cousins. QB is the most important position on the field, Kenny isn't the guy, we aren't going to beat Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, etc. with a 2 TE, run first offense, and hoping Kenny doesn't mess it up, that's why we've been doing the past two seasons. Cam is 36, TJ will be turning 30, Minkah is already often injured. We can't play this game where the defense holds teams to 16 points and we wait for the offense to come up with that one drive. Pickett has started 24 or 25 games already, how much more do we need to see, especially when Mason stepped right in and looked way better than Pickett ever has? So after next season, it'll be "well this was Kenny's first season with Smith, he needs another year in that system"
Yeah, bring in Kirk Cousins. He'd be a perfect fit -- he's got 1 playoff win in 12 seasons.

We're going to see more titans than falcons.

Smith isn't just a run OC, he had passing going pretty well with the titans.

I'm hoping the falcons was an anomaly & Coach Conservative backs off.

Salute the nation

Denver, Chargers, Browns? Denver hasn't been good, the Chargers have been pretty bad, and the Browns only have a defense. Watson stunk and is disgruntled they don't have anyone else. We beat Balt and Cinci 2x last year those games are always toss ups. Miami and the Jags could go either way. Both teams had major collapses. We could go either way. Get Pickett and najee some blocking and actually use the whole field we could improve a decent amount. Noone expects Kenny to be a HOFer, he just needs to be above average and we should be alright

Yeah, bring in Kirk Cousins. He'd be a perfect fit -- he's got 1 playoff win in 12 seasons.
His playoff stats: 4 games started 66.5% comp, 5TD's, 1INT. His defenses gave up 35, 27, 31 in the 3 losses. That's a hell of alot better than anyone we have and it's not even close.
Has a career rating of 98.1 and a completion % of 67%. Yeah let's keep creeping along with Pickett and his below Kordell rating. Not saying Cousins is up there with Mahomes, Burrow etc. but if we're trying to win every year like Rooney and Tomlin have both said, then Cousins with our defense would be the absolute best chance at winning.

Doesn't have to be a three way. You pick two. Coaches have decisions to make. But we all know later that third QB could very well be a season savor.

I read he said Kenny will have competition. We'll see...
