We have traded with the Eagles for CB Brandon Boykin in exchange for a conditional 5th-Rd pick in the 2016 Draft. http://t.co/aYWt5nHuj8
Trade has nothing to do with Allen..who has been pretty good so far. Had a rough first day against Brown but that's a tall order for anyone.
.
Boykin is a fantastic pickup. He is only 25 and has been a top-3 slot corner over the last few years. He has expressed his desire to play on the outside as well...we'll see. Yet for sure, we have a serious player who has played A LOT in the slot.
The Eagles have done a MAJOR overhaul of their defensive backfield. My guess is that they want 2nd round draft pick Eric Rowe to play in the slot. He is tall, long and physical--I really liked him. DC Billy Davis seems to prefer a Safety type player in the slot. So there you go. IMO... we get a good player at a great price. However, I believe he has only a year left on his rookie deal. Hopefully, we can sign him at a reasonable price. Although not a big player... 5'10" and 190... he is very physical and elite athletic ability. VERY good in zone coverage.
This guy is a great fit, IMHO.
.
Not sure how you get that. Allen's pretty "good" days in practice isn't enough for the FO to totally disregard all last year. Also Boykin wants to play outside. That was one of the reasons why he was bitching about Kelly last year.
Wait ... This guy's Combine Profile at NFL.Com has him listed at 5'9" .... Wasn't the concern about Golson that he was only ... 5'9"?
Oh, I didn't say that I didn't like the trade or the potential fit. My point was that the Golson pick was jumped on because the kid was "too short" before he even had a chance to play a down in the NFL. You wouldn't have known Boykin would become one of the best slot CBs in the game if he wasn't given a chance just because of an inch.

Prior to making the trade Saturday, the Steelers had a lot of question marks in their secondary. For starters, Cortez Allen is coming off a dismal 2014 season and has yet to prove that he can be a dependable cornerback on a week to week basis. On top of that, while he has had his moments, cornerback Antwon Blake has also shown that he has a ways to go in his development.
Depending on how Allen and Blake do during the preseason, he could very well be a starter in the regular season opener against the pats***.
