A new report from Bet Maryland has revealed which NFL teams have been the greatest performing underdogs of the 21st century, and guess who came in first?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the greatest records:

  • Last Decade: 49.2% Won (2nd)
  • 21st Century: 43.3% Won (1st)

When labeled as the “underdog” or performers “against the odds,” the Steelers are the most successful team of the 21st century so far, winning 43% of their 231 games. The New England Patriots are 1st in the last decade, winning 50% of their games. The Jacksonville Jaguars have been labeled as “underdogs” the most in the NFL over the last 1o years (142 games).

Steeler Nation may find it amusing to know that the Cleveland Browns have been revealed to be the worst team, losing 82% of their games as an “underdog.”

When the STEELERS are underdogs by the spread standard they truly are the underdog.

When the cheatriots or underdogs by the spread standard that is just a hedge bet because there is the cheating and help by the officials to factor in.

To answer the OP’s question, I vote underperformed. The talent we had is almost embarrassing for the results. But hey, never below .500. The standard is the standard! 😉

How about our performance when listed as favorites? Maybe because I follow them but over the last 10 years it seems we've lost allot of games outright when giving points on the betting line.

The story always told is that the Steelers draft well.

Maybe not.

One thought that crossed my mind is that perhaps the Steelers overachieve.

When a player is drafted by the Steelers, they are ecstatic. Aware of the winning tradition they sort of take on a responsibility... to do their damnest to perform at a high level every time they put on the Black and Gold. (except for Devin Bush).
They strive to do their part in order to maintain the Steeler winning culture and want nothing to do with being part of a downfall.

Thats why we are where we have been for years. Good, but not good enough.

When a player is drafted by the Browns they too are ecstatic, but only because they got drafted and are about to be millionaires. No one wants drafted by the Browns.
Sure these players want to win. They say the right things...but also stamped in the back of their minds they realize they have been drafted into a culture of losing.
So when things start to go bad it's "oh well, we're the Browns" and accept it. So just pay me or trade me.
They didn't want to be there in the first place and have to put on those ****-colored uniforms.
