Steelers trade for Justin Fields

According to Cory Crisan at DK's site, the compensation is:
"According to ESPN, the Steelers are sending a 2025 sixth-round pick that could become a fourth-round pick based on if he plays in 51% of plays in 2024."

Yep 6th that becomes a 4th if he plays, which is a pretty good deal considering he shouldn't have to play this season. They'll probably work out a 2-3 yr extension rather than picking up his 5th year option

The Steelers are taking a big chance with Fields. I have not seen the compensation yet. What I'm wondering is what do the Steelers do if Rus has an amazing year and wants to sign a four year contract at a reasonable rate going forward? They then have to pay Fields the fifth year option at 25 million as a backup next year. I wonder how Fields is going to feel about being a backup. I guess competition is a good thing, but Rus isn't coming to play backup. At least we have significantly upgraded the QB room. Now, will they have anyone decent to throw to or hike the ball?

What is his salary situation

Ok that is perfect. Assuming we arent locked into his option year

If you traded for him you'll probably extend him. There is no denying his athletic talent. We will see if Smith can't coach him up.

Sask is going to lose his mind.
I guess we just became the Cleveland ****** Browns so yes. Look. They spent a 6th to get a backup for next year because at 20 they shouldn't try to land a starting QB. I get that. Here us the problem. Are you just going to admit that or are you stupidly paying the 20 plus million to guarentee he is in the roster in 2025 based upon a couple helmet practices? And the thing is they will be 18 to 20 in the draft next year.

Hell no, we are drafting 32nd next year.

This eliminates having to draft a higher round QB if they work out an extension for Fields. Wonder if he would play WR some this year. Slash II.
Oh my God I was waiting for soneone to break out the slash template bwahhhhaa. Oh God that's funny. I swear most Steelers fans can find some silver lining in a turd sandwich of any flavor. Slash. Haha 😄

I am ever the optimist.

I'm assuming (and it's a big assumption) that they are planning to extend him to avoid the 5th year option. I'd like to hope (yes, I know what hope and $3.00 gets you) that this was discussed with Fields' reps before the trade occurred. We'll see.
