Steelers trade for Justin Fields

He is 10-28 and everyone is applauding. So what money is he due in May and as it looks Tomlin is showing his true color this off season.
Check out the Bears as a team for the years he compiled those stats. Who the coaches were. What other moves they made ( like us fleecing them for Claypool ) and you realize he was in a garbage situation.
I am not saying he’s perfect. Not saying he’s the next coming.
I’m saying let’s see what he is with a proper TEAM around him.
For a future 6th? It’s worth the shot.

Arthur Smith is the key to these moves being good. Wilson showed under Sean Payton that he's not a quick read guy. But he's great at play action. Same with Fields. The Smith system is easier on QBs. It plays to a QB with mobility and downfield accuracy. That's Wilson and Fields.

I don't think Lamar is a great QB. But he's very effective because the ravens built an offense around his run and play action ability. Where they get in trouble is when they try to expand that and make him more of a pocket passer.

If the steelers had hired Kliff Kingsbury as OC then signing Wilson and Fields would be horrible moves.

I think Wilson and Fields are both still very mobile, especially Fields could flourish in an Arthur Smith play-action pass offense. I would be interested in how much play-action pass Chicago ran with fields. I do know their offensive line sucked. Both would be very dangerous with Najee and Jaylen on bootlegs or screens. Fields set an NFL record for rushing yards by a QB in a season. Now you must defend Harris, Warren, and Fields by bringing safety or using larger personnel in the box. That scheme doesn't match up well with Friermuth, Heyward, Washington, or Austin out of the slot. We have all seen what happens when LB covers a WR. That puts Pickens in single-coverage and opens up the entire middle of the field. Sign Boyd and draft Xavier Legette from South Carolina and you have something fun to watch. Remember Ryan Tannehill threw for 3000 yards in this offense. RYAN TANNEHILL.

Justin and Russell are going to do lewd, sexual things with the football, and maybe each other, while the Kenny fans look on helplessly.

Get Fields name on a 14 million dollar guarenteed contract for 2025 with a Roster bonus of 35 or 40 million for 2026. Then I'm good with everything that has transpired.

This erases all my disgust over the return for Pickett yesterday.

I have no idea if Fields can develop but I know he starts with significantly better tools than Pickett had. If he can develop the ability to study and read defenses, he has the arm and the legs to be a real threat. His upside is significantly higher than Pickett has. And after a semi-pro team gave up on him, he should be motivated to prove that all those yards and touchdowns at Ohio State were not a fluke.
The last QB we had from Ohio was pretty damn good...(Fields played for Ohio St. - same ****)

The Steelers, for the last number of years, have not been much different.

FFS this team had a HOF QB and couldn‘t even win a playoff game. The so called Defensive Genius‘ Defense gives up 30+ point in every playoff game they did make. A Managing Owner that refuses to make needed changes, because he appears to be happy with winning seasons and the money that is rolling in.

I personally don’t think that Fields is going to a better opportunity. Nothing about this team organization CURRENTLY shows the ability to develop players, let alone remediate failing players. They tried it with Haskins and failed with him, I expect to see the same results with Fields. Hopefully that young man doesn’t make poor off the field choices that result in him losing his life too.

Kahn brought in 2 experienced qb's for very little. Shopping the bargain basement. He knows Tomlin can't " develop " a player so he has to find some with experience. It looks like we will certainly draft a qb, but when? What round? You know they don't want to pay Wilson makes rate. Use him for a year, dump him. If he gets hurt, Fields plays, only as a placeholder. Drafted candidate must play well enough to win the job. Wilson will get hurt, fields will stink and rookie gets a chance. Otherwise the price at qb goes well beyond Rooneys comfort level.

What a soap opera.

2 types of qbs in NFL those that can throw the receiver open, like the dude at San Fran, those who can’t, fields with the bears or Wilson the jets. It’s that simple defenses too fast too smart. Fields, trubiski all these guys are a waste of time.

You gotta be a real dumb **** to sit on your couch wearing your clown suit and pretend you know better than the Steelers FO about the moves made the past week.

And to come to this site to try to sell your "knowledge" to people who aren't buying it. Some of these posts should be pinned for review during camp and the regular.

A few weeks ago I did not love the idea of trading for Fields, but that's when we were thinking it may take a 2 or 3 to get him. Getting him for peanuts changes everything.

In terms of talent, Justin Fields is elite. He has shown flashes. He had two 4 TD games last year if i recall. He is an absolutely perfect fit in Smith's offense.

He gets to sit behind WIlson for a year and learn the offense. In that year, if you find he's a dummy who isn't picking things up then you let him go. But if he shows promise then you give him a year to audition to be your franchise QB.

They should come up with a package of plays for Fields, maybe redzone RPO stuff.
It’s been 2 years since I’ve posted, this is worthy of that! Glad all the OG’s are still here!

So pay him the 20 million for 2025 and tell Russ right now he is a one year rental. And you do know that Wilson is one of the top Red Zone Qs last year and most years. I really couldn't maje this **** up if I tried.
No Wilson will do 3 years teach and get a ring for it! The Talent is there as said before the play action diverting blocks calling audibles takes time. We build up Defensively this year. Oline then weapons next year. Yes

Great observation and both have basically no future in Pittsburgh.
How much of a future do you want Russell to have. At the most anyone with any roster acumen at all should have been only thinking 2-3 years at most with him. Fields would be a bargain at 25 million if he could be more consistent and do exactly what's asked of him. The ceiling is way higher for him then anything the Steelers have had the last six years.

So the general consensus is our QBs aren't that great but at least their cheap. Winning!
Ok. So you be the GM and tell us what you would have done up 2 now.

The last QB we had from Ohio was pretty damn good...(Fields played for Ohio St. - same ****)
Our current best offensive weapon is from the Bulldogs, Fields was a Bulldog
All the math adds up

And pass the Tito's, gummies and bacon!!!

So Russ is going to backup Mahomes in years 25,26?
Got it

Yes we got a couple of guys for next to nothing, but are they any good??

I say Fields is who he is at this stage-a below average QB and Wilson is declining skill wise and a locker room issue.

you don’t compete without good QB play and I don’t think we have it and we will now take 2 years minimum to come to that realization playing these two guys
And the Steelers were going to be in position to draft a QB of your liking how??
