Exquisite research and exquisite execution. Wish we had a coach with that kind of brainpower. also, ballsy call on the fake punt at the end.

How impressive was it?

One of the great trick plays in NFL history. Austin's acting was outstanding.

Heck, I didn't know that kickers schooled in rugby tend to kick to the right. But Fisher & Co. sure did.

I think the Rams are now my favorite NFC team.

I still can't believe Fisher had the balls to call that. If they don't make it, Seattle wins the game. Also, still not sure what happened on that fumble call that would have given Seattle an easy chance to get a FG to win. It looked like the Seattle player was laying on top of the ball when everyone piled on. How anyone else could have gotten it makes no sense but no conclusive proof either way from what I saw.

Finding ways to win is what separates the level of play by teams. This Steeler team has lost it's "find ways to win" attitude and the coaching appear to be content to prepare for the same predictable failing outcomes.

It's been done before. ESPN showed the highlights last night. Green Bay, I believe, pulled off the same fake punt return some years back.

Green Bay had it done TO them, by the bears.

Correct. I couldn't remember, even though they played it last night. Devin Hester faked receiving the punt, now that you jogged my memory.

I posted elsewhere that I think someone pulled that on Pitt in the early 80s.

I fully expect Tomlin to "copycat" that special team play with his own attempt to jump start his bumbling band of mediocrity...

You have seen it before from Coach Mikey...

The fake punt was gutsy, but you gotta figure if the Rams punt there, odds are the Hawks are pretty easily marching for the winning 3 anyway. But mad props to them when you combine the trick punt return from earlier along with the fake punt, that's what you call terrific film study and great preparation. I wish it was something the Steelers had. Their special teams have been below average to mediocre for a long time now.

Help explain to me how the mechanics of that punt return works
St Louis knew the Seattle punter mostly kicks to the right, looked like Austin and almost the entire Rams return team went to the right, but the punter kicked left this time.
So what would have been the call or signal to execute that return?
How did the the Rams players know what to do?
Or did only a few Rams players, Stedman Bailey and a few other blockers, need to know?

I decided to get a pulse on the "12th Man" and their emotions now....since they are at .500 now and in danger of missing the postseason. Some of them remind me of a few folks here in this forum. Panic mode..................

for example

Ref blaming (full crisis mode):
It is killing my desire to watch. So many terrible calls week in and week out and NOT just in our games.

It is hard to take that some jackass that is not even a professional, although they have their own union are allowed to affect the outcomes of games league wide. I'm glad to say the players support what I just typed.

Here is what Earl had to say after the game......"Yeah, at least give us a shot," Thomas said. "But you know what? I'm not surprised with the refereeing this season. If you really look at some plays, we're playing more than our opponents. We're playing the referees, too. I don't care what anyone is saying. Something is wrong. It needs to be brought up."

And...coach critiquing and termination suggestions: (Fire DC Quinn Thread)
How could a defense from being an all time best, fall to being one of the worst in the NFL without a major overhaul?? Yes we lost a couple important pieces, but this defense has simply not been coached well this season.

Its unbelievable that in all of our loses, the opponents have had almost the exact game plan, which is run to setup the pass action and dump the ball to receivers/TEs for 3-4 yards and set up 3rd and short for most of the game. This defense absolutely isn't adjusting to anything the opponents do, keep play stupid zones, no blitzing, no stunts or exotic schemes. Its like if one play works on that day, the opponents keep running that play over and over again for the rest of the game and we don't do a thing about it.

I don't know if I've ever been more miffed at a lack of in-game coaching awareness than I am now. How many times does it take for this staff to learn that Fisher likes to gut us with special teams fake plays?

We are watching a team battle for a potential wildcard berth. If you put that into perspective you know every game will be a struggle and nothing is automatic like it was last year. This team can be beaten by anyone right now we have to face that realization. They could get hot at some point though that is highly unlikely. What I am seeing is all the classic markings of a downward spiral starting.

This team is damaged mentally. Our defense cannot be trusted to get the job done at any point. I don't even want to hear the word defending champs anymore. I am proud of last year it was amazing. However in order to not go crazy we need to be real and know this team is not dominant in any phase this year.

And then...the level-headed patient fan with the sarcastic post:
Fire Paul Allen! Fire Steve Largent! Fire Macklemore! Fire Edgar Martinez! Fire Detleph Scrempf! Fire Vern Fonk! Fire the space needle! Fire mount rainier! Fire those stupid fire boats! Fire Eddie Vedder's flannel vest!

...........god damn this place goes full retard after a couple losses.

Meltdown in the Emerald City...........but....they havent turned on Pete.............YET......but he is just a few months removed from his SB win. But give it time.....they did "play down to the competition"

Funny thing is, the media doesnt even view them as dominant anymore. GB and Dallas are the current flavors of the month.

From what I've heard, the Rams discovered that the punter's kicks tend to fade left whenever he's trying to punt down inside the 10. So they had Stedman run down the left sideline upon the kick while the regular returner and blockers act like the ball is coming down the right.

I suspect we will fake catch a kick off without having anyone on the other side of the field to actually field the kick. We'll save that part for the playoffs.

fumblerooski, anyone?

Mike Tomlin already had that play drawn up, he was just waiting for the playoffs to use it.
