The Coronavirus thread

The vast majority of people have no reason to panic about this. Why does hearing that bother you so much? Isn't needless panic a bad thing for a lot of reasons?

this is another instance of whatever Trump does is bad.

By acting as if the Coronavirus isnt that bad, he's "toying with peoples' lives and putting them in danger"
If he were to go full tard and freak out in press conferences, the Left would say "the man hasn't any idea how to act in a crisis"

A lot of these measures feel like just postponing the inevitable. It will be years, not months, before a vaccine is discovered, tested and widely distributed. So we're either going to all have to accept some level of risk of getting this or we just shut down modern life as we know it for a period of at least a couple of years.

The consequences of the latter seem far worse to me than the consequences of the former.

Nah what panic police aren’t saying is tgat after SARs a bunch of coronavirus vaccinations were being developed... there already is one or two ready for testing approval... a half dozen more were close... they got mothballed when SARs laid an egg on the worldwide stage and didn’t reoccur... we are talking the time it takes to test and mass produce it, one already claims to have tweaked it for this version...

Takes time to produce large quantities (heck, we can't even produce test kits fast enough, and we only need enough for sick people). The high risk folks would get it first (as they should). Will be awhile til it's widely available to the general population. But whether is 3 months or 6 months or two years...are we all going to stop going out in public until that time? Of course not. The hysteria will wane in a couple of weeks and everyone will go back to living exactly as they would if this was the flu.

High risk folks should take every precaution. For the rest of us might as well accept there's a decent chance you're going to get it eventually and stop freaking out.

Flu infects 3,000,000 per year in the United States, kills 18,000, been around forever and not possible to blame Trump:

giphy.gif

Coronavirus around in present form for 7 months, Trump shuts down travel from China, 800 Americans infected, 19 Americans dead, but Trump did not personally examine every traveler from China and Italy:

My company just cancelled my trip to a conference in Florida in may... thats cool, but they refuse to cancel and east to west travel that techs do that requies plane travel... cost savings in cutting a conference... more power to you, but making them do different logistics to staff meaningless jobs? Can’t do that... its not that bad...

Its just nonsense that fits agendas... but the gravy thing is if you come in contact with it at any point its 2 weeks off paid...
with our travel schedule there is almost a zero percent chance that isn’t happening...

So two years ago when I had pneumonia and they had a critical job that no one else could do, they basically all but forced me to spend a week in a trailer during winter getting it done, but this virus that potentially can cause pneumonia and thats its big bad scary thing... that we have to change the way we deal with everything, but only in relation to how we might infect the management... seems like BSto me

Cuomo orders coronavirus containment zone in New York; major colleges close classrooms as virus spreads.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) on Tuesday announced schools and places of worship within a one-mile zone of the city of New Rochelle will close their doors for 14 days, and National Guard troops will help deliver food and disinfect common areas inside the zone.

Health officials have reported at least 108 cases of COVID-19 in the area.

Any large gathering places within that containment area will be required to shut down through March 25, Cuomo said.

That includes Young Israel and several public and private schools, including three each from the New Rochelle and Tuckahoe school districts.

Massachusetts declares state of emergency as 51 new coronavirus cases are confirmed

Gov. Charlie Baker issued a state of emergency Tuesday as the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported a jump in confirmed coronavirus cases.

The number of confirmed cases went up by 51 presumptive positives in a day, bringing the state's total cases to 92. Officials said Tuesday that they were beginning to see evidence of community spread of the virus, rather than travel related cases.

60 MILLION QUARANTINED

From confidence to quarantine: how coronavirus swept Italy

Italy appeared well ahead of the curve when the coronavirus outbreak began to spread outside China.

After detecting three cases, including two Chinese tourists at the end of January, patients were isolated in a hospital in Rome. Contacts were traced, and the country became one of the world’s first to cut transport links with China.

The sense of confidence was palpable. “The system of prevention put into place by Italy is the most rigorous in Europe,” the prime minister, Giuseppe Conte, boasted on 31 January.

In reality, as would become clear in February, the virus had been circulating unnoticed in northern Italy via other local chains of infection, in all probability since mid-January.

Another critical misunderstanding also appears to have emerged, this time between central government and hospitals in the north.

It concerns what the proper protocols were for testing unexplained fevers and respiratory complaints, and whether people with no apparent connection to China should be tested.

“The message is, if you have undetected transmission, if that is not taken seriously, you can very quickly get to numbers that can easily put a burden on your health service. You need ideally to be detecting outbreaks as early as possible.”

Italy Coronavirus: 10,149 Cases and 631 Deaths

Coronavirus mortality in Lombardy is now 8%, more than double Wuhan

ROME—The coronavirus has killed more people in Italy than in China over the past week. Doctors are warning that a shortage of beds to treat the severely ill could push the Italian death toll higher still.

In less than 3 weeks Italy has gone from just 3 coronavirus cases to the biggest outbreak after China.

Coronavirus has killed 5% of known cases, even higher in the worst-affected region. Lombardy health system is completely beyond ability to deliver adequate care - hence rationing who gets ICUs

NO ****! Just came back from Costco and they had no TP, Clorox wipes or sanitizer but hey had had a whole shitload of bottled water after running out last weekend. I am talking 50 or more pallets of water. I am running low on TP and just wanted to pick some up, DAMN.

State Universities here have all suspended face to face classes OHSAA has limited all high school sports to parents only in attendance. My wife is a nursing student and may have clinicals canceled, My daughter is a nurse and her hospital is already overflowing with regular illness and is trying to get people out. Unlike Spike I am not panicked about this but I am concerned over the short term.

What panic, its the facts

Horrific, its a total clusterfuck

A first responder familiar with the situation in the Seattle area says that seven Kirkland WA Firefighters were swabbed for testing samples that were then sent to the Washington state testing lab — but there was such a bottleneck at the lab, the samples expired.

Those 7 firefighters now must be re-tested and remain in quarantine/isolation longer.

The first responder also says that they are being told by Life Care Center that none of the nearly 200 employees from Life Care have been tested. (65 employees reportedly have symptoms.)

First responder: “The response has been putrid”

And here I thought climate change was going to wipe us out.

More Tucker Truths. I'm sure Flogged will be along to remind us that antibiotics don't cure viruses and Tibs will say "la la la la la la la la I don't listen to people who aren't Democrats."

The virus isn't that dangerous. Our predicament is.

At the end of the segment last night, Tucker quoted from a statement released a few days ago by Xinhua, the official Chinese state media. He drew from this passage from a Xinhua editorial:

If China retaliates against the United States at this time, in addition to announcing a travel ban on the United States, it will also announce strategic control over medical products and ban exports to the United States. Then the United States will be caught in the ocean of new coronaviruses.

According to the US CDC officials, most masks in the United States are made in China and imported from China. If China bans the export of masks to the United States, the United States will fall into a mask shortage, and the most basic measures to prevent the novel coronavirus can’t do it.

Also according to the US CDC officials, most of the drugs in the United States are imported, and some drugs are imported from Europe. However, Europe also places the production base of these drugs in China, so more than 90% of the US imported drugs are related to China. The implication is that at this time, as long as China announces that its drugs are for domestic use and banned exports, the United States will fall into the hell of the novel coronavirus epidemic.

I once had a Marine hired for a company I worked for. He was my engineer. Born in Russia. Super smart. He used to tell me the biggest fear we should have is China. That in a military conflict, we would run out of bullets before they ran out of humans. We won no war simulations they would run.

They have us by the balls without firing a shot - if they want.

Good news.

14 temporary hospitals closed in China's Wuhan as more patients discharged

Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak in central China's Hubei Province, on Monday suspended another public-facility-turned temporary hospital as the number of COVID-19 patients continued to drop in the city.

WUHAN, March 10 (Xinhua) -- The makeshift hospital of Jianghan, which was converted from Wuhan International Conference and Exhibition Center, closed on Monday afternoon. With a total of 1,564 beds, it received its first patient at 9 p.m. on Feb. 5. Over the past 34 days, the temporary hospital of Jianghan received a total of 1,848 patients, saw 521 patients being transferred to other hospitals and 1,327 patients discharged. It had the most available beds, admitted the most patients and saw the most discharged patients among all the temporary hospitals in Wuhan.

The closure of the temporary hospital of Jianghan, which was converted from the existing international exhibition center of Wuhan, has brought the number of closed temporary hospitals in the city to 14.

The real lesson regarding this outbreak is how dependent we are on China for production of our basic medical needs, and how we need to get our **** together and start production domestically.....or at least diversify the sources. China threatened us last week, to cut off basic supply of oft used pharmaceuticals.....not good.

Which can lead one to wonder, with the timing of this in an election year, whether there was something strategic to this outbreak. Seriously, would you not put it past the Chinese Communist regime, that has millions of people in concentration camps right now, to concoct such a plan?

Yep
