The Coronavirus thread

I am not convinced that this began in a wet market. Documentary from Epoch Times.......

I got this one emailed to me the other day. It reaffirms that I believe 100% lab made and the either ****** up security or let it out on purpose. Hard to say with commies. This is still a group that murdered tens of millions of their own people when they came into power.

China owes us a **** ton of money, but let's just cancel our debt with them. What they can't replace are the lives lost and the suffering they have cost.

Bunch of mother *******.

When people are not going out and spending money it is bad economics. People are going to be reluctant to go to restaurants and stores for quite some time, even after the virus peaks.

Also, despite the actions being taken at the Federal level, I do not see many of these smaller companies surviving this, especially if it goes on for 2-3 more months.

If that's the case a lot of these recently unemployed people will not have jobs to go back to.

I don't know about that I think just the opposite from all the friends I have on Facebook. They are ready and willing to go out and support our local restaurants, in fact I think some of them will be so busy at first they will not know what to do. Particularly the one like my favorite Mama Disalvo's who has been making wonderful family style meals to go and keeping a good presence on facebook. Many have been savvy about marketing themselves during this and will do very well right away. Don't underestimate a pent up demand and the American Spirit to help each other.

I disagree. This virus is almost identical in protein structure to other novel viruses. They may have been studying it but they didn't "make" it.

Correct. It just escaped from some dumb **** Employee.

It absolutely came from that lab. Just as that video stated it wasn't some natural occurrence. That virus was altered by human hand and it got out or was let out. Everything they did afterward to cover it up screams guilty as sin.

When all of the dust settles a lot of countries are going to be very angry with China. The slave labor isn't worth the profits when your communist overlords can block any exports any time they wish. Just ask 3M.

For crying out loud they've been working to weaponize viruses for years. What do you think all of this work on how to make it spread easier from animal's to humans was about

Yeah pent up demand is great for people who have JOBS. Many businesses will not survive this. Thus many jobs will not survive this. You seem to have this naive idea that a business can go two, three, four months with no revenue and open up again like nothing happened. The vast majority of retail businesses operate on very small margins. Not only may Mama Disalvos and thousands of others like it go out of business...look for Macy's, Kohl's, Gap, Applebees, etc. to go out of business too.

No I am not naive I think first, many will get open soon like in May in much of the Country. Second I know first hand friends of mine with businesses have been able to get help. Not all mind you, but as painful as it is on our deficit they are providing a lot of help much of it will be forgiven. Plus self employed are getting paid or will be when it gets setup and it will be back dated. Now if this goes in through the summer then we will see some serious attrition. I think you are selling short the recovery of more manufacturing from China to stoke growth. Yes there will be some pain but I honestly think we will end up stronger than we are.

If I still had my cleaning company I would be bankrupt and going to the food bank for dinner.

That or someone took a few bats out of the lab and sold them in the market to make a few bucks. I could believe that.

Macy's is a dinosaur, they will have to reinvent or they were headed for the crap pile of history, Kohls will be ok. Crapplebees was also struggling and the food SUCKED. It sucks and yes there will be some attrition but there is at some point attrition anyway. Sometimes it is needed like weeding a garden. If we get manufacturing back those retail jobs which pay for **** might be replaced with better paying manufacturing jobs. So we might not emerge where we were but we will as I said in the other reply going to end up stronger than before.

SIL,

Why do you think shuttering the global economy makes anyone stronger?

Clearly, the weakest get culled in times of distress, whether virus or financial. So those at the margin will suffer the most, while those with govt, health related and other "essential" jobs get strengthened, relatively, because they have more artificial govt support.

The global response of: print money gives you a sense of optimism? Why? These same govts are the ones unable to provide PPE for medical staff, people, etc. unable to generate useful stats to compare data, unable to define constraints on liberty, unable to....

Your confidence is akin to being glad that the forest fire will provide an opportunity for new growth, soon.

I don't think it was altered by human hands. It is almost identical to other novel viruses. There is nothing that appears to be changed. Why would anyone make a virus identical to other viruses with basically the same or even less death rates? It's structure and function is in line with many other viruses that were a lot more lethal. It isn't weaponized nor is it lethal for probably over 98% of the population.

Yeah, we're self employed and have had a relationship with our bank for years. Applied the first day it came out and haven't seen a penny yet. We are fortunate that we have some backup money and some accounts receivable but business has completely dried up. We are hoarding every cent we can. We are generally very charitable but with two kids in college and third hoping to be in college in a year (and zero need based financial aid) we can't afford to be anymore.

You think everything's going to be hunky dory but we probably won't be be seeing all of the real ripple effects of this until 6 months to a year from now.

Because we at least for now have business first leadership in the White House. You haven't addressed the possibility of manufacturing returning. I am not saying it will be all rainbows and sunshine, I am saying I think many more companies will survive this IF we get this going in the next month or so where we can. I think yes, a forest fire is needed once in awhile to clear ground for new companies and IF we maintain the leadership we have and maybe get the House back we should be primed to deregulate more and free up more opportunities for competition. I just don't see it coming out as bad you and some do. Not from conversations I have had with small businesses. I am sure not saying we step right back to where we were that would be impossible.

Do you have any idea how long it would take for manufacturing to "return" in any meaningful way? Years, if not decades.

If anyone created a virus for weapons purposes, and only got a 1-2% mortality rate mostly of the elderly and those with compromised immune systems, they would be the worst scientists ever.

It's plenty lethal and highly contagious. They sure knocked us down a few pegs with this weak virus. 21k dead so far and an entire country brought to it's knees. Pretty good I'd say. We'd be beyond ****** right now if it had spread to every large city like NY.

This stuff isn't going away anytime soon. Do we have some magic number of infected population we'll to open the country up? Sure as hell doesn't appear like it.

I'm just mad as hell because this **** could have been prevented if China had just lock it all down and told the world. **** no,let's just spread that **** like nothings wrong

Man some of you guys are just totally gloom and doom. The truth will be somewhere in the middle. We were doomed for a downturn at some point. This may be less painful as a correction than a natural downturn would have been, maybe not.

Yes but I pray to god that this has the unintended consequence of ******* them over in manufacturing as the world says screw China regardless of whether it was intentional or accidental.
