whabout the millions of essential employees who went to work around the ******* country who also stopped at grocery stores, gas stations, etc to/from their place of employment and interacted with other people who may or may not have had the rona, and thus helped their own families develop herd immunity by doing just that?

Sweden claims coronavirus success after keeping country open, says herd immunity imminent

Criticized for refusing to lock down, Sweden’s top health official says herd immunity is inevitable and took credit for the slowing of coronavirus numbers.

“According to our modelers, we are starting to see so many immune people in the population in Stockholm that it is starting to have an effect on the spread of the infection,” Anders Tegnell, who led the charge to keep Sweden open, told local media. “Our models point to some time in May.”

Despite social distancing guidelines from the World Health Organization, Sweden has resisted lockdowns, instead keeping open schools, gyms, bars and restaurants and relying on citizens to caution themselves.

Tegnell’s comments echo thoughts about herd immunity, in which most of the population is infected with the assumption that those who survive will not be infected again, floated by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. But Johnson eventually folded to the advice of health officials and shut down the United Kingdom.

The WHO has also insisted that there’s no evidence yet that coronavirus antibodies leave the infected immune.

So far, 14,385 people in Sweden have tested positive for coronavirus. Of those, 1,540 have died.

But Tegnell said the death toll “is not a failure for the overall strategy.”

“It is a failure to protect our elderly who live in care homes,” he said.

The Labor Department delivered a historically bad employment report Friday, showing 20.5 million jobs lost last month as the nation locked down against the coronavirus. The jobless rate soared to 14.7% — the highest level since the Great Depression.

The highest monthly job loss before this was 2 million in 1945, as the nation began to demobilize after World War II. The worst monthly job loss during the Great Recession was 800,000 in March 2009.

I don't buy that either. Nursing homes have old and already compromised people. We just got the data from the CDC that the average age of people in the US who died from Covid is 75. I think you would have to suspend disbelief not to suspect something targeted when all these hotspots are breaking out just in the meat processing plants of remote areas of remote states. Along the lines of believing that the virus that emerged from Wuhan did not come from the lab in Wuhan experimenting with the virus.

Record 103,415,000 Not in Labor Force; Participation Rate Sinks to 47-Year Low


he nation's labor force participation rate reached a 47-year low of 60.2 percent in April, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as the number of people not in the labor force jumped by 6,570,000 to a record 103,415,000.

The participation rate has now dropped 2.5 percentage points since March, and it is the lowest it has been since the 60.0 percent recorded in January 1973.

As expected, because of government-mandated business closings, there was more bad news:

A record 103,415,000 Americans, roughly one-third of the population, were counted as "not in the labor force" in April, a gain of 6,570,000 in just one month. The previous record high for this number, swelled in part by retiring baby boomers, was 96,845,000 in March. (The labor force is made up of the employed and the unemployed. The remainder, those who have no job and are not looking for one, are counted as not in the labor force.)

Only 133,403,000 Americans were employed in April -- 22,369,000 fewer than in March -- and a steep falloff from the record 158,803,000 counted as employed in December 2019.

What this sample tells us is that staying home does not protect you from getting the virus. It also tells us that the vast majority of younger healthier people who are out working at jobs and riding public transportation and probably getting infected to some degree mostly do NOT end up in the hospital with this virus. These are new hospitalizations, not new cases.

The 66% that keeps getting referenced means that those folks likely got the virus from places that are still open, grocery stores, drug stores, dollar stores, gas stations, etc...

• The lockdown was NOT, REPEAT NOT, meant to prevent people from getting the Chinese flu.
• That is because the virus is in our country, among millions and millions of people, and it WILL SPREAD. Nothing we can do about that.
• The "flattening the curve" refers only to AVOIDING THE SPIKE that experts feared would overwhelm the medical system.
• The belief was that without the lockdown, the same number of people get the virus as without a lockdown, dumbass, but those who get it do so more rapidly, leading to the explosion of needed medical care.
• That feared explosion of demand for medical care, the theory went, would wind up killing more people since hospitals would not be able to give critical care to the infected who needed it.
• Hence, the "spike" in the graph with the steep plummet of cases. (I provide a picture below because I know words are hard for you sometimes.)
• Get it? If not, go to Wuhan and lick doorknobs.
• So did the explosive demand for medical care happen in non-lockdown areas, involving at least 25 million people (Sweden, Iowa, Arkansas, etc.)?
• No? Huh, so the entire ******* lockdown theory IS. *******. WRONG.
• Oh, and why does the United States supposedly fear a re-occurrence come winter, while Sweden does not? Oh, right, NO ******* LOCKDOWN IN SWEDEN, and the nation has developed the desired "herd immunity."
