The Enemy of the People Thread

30 years later, wash, rinse, repeat. The MSM is the enemy of the people.

The Mainstream Media Won’t Tell Us the Truth About 2021. The Way They Didn’t About 1991

Back then, the MSM featured the story that served the Democratic agenda, not the really important stories

As we round out the end of 2021, I’m struck by how the media year-end retrospectives I’ve seen so far remind me of the ones from thirty years ago. Remember 1991? I do. Here is what I remember.

Back in 1991

I remember that we won the Persian Gulf War. Amazing, lighting-quick victory. Very few casualties. A coalition comprising almost every nation on the planet. I remember the victory parades in NYC and Washington, DC. I was personally present at the one in DC. Tanks rolling down American streets in celebration. Fighter jets flying overhead.

It was very unusual for the USA. More the sort of parade that occurred every year in the USSR. But we deserved it.

We had essentially just won the Cold War without firing a shot. And the Gulf War victory parades were almost a sort of stand-in for a Cold War victory parade. Like the celebrations that occurred at the end of World War II. The famous image of the soldier kissing the woman and all that.

In fact, the Soviet Union did collapse that year. It was officially disbanded on Christmas Day.

That was Year-End 1991. That was huge.

The USSR had terrorized its own people, and the world, for 70 years. The USA and the USSR had been in a Cold War for 40-some years which, at times, had brought the human race to the brink of extinction.

And it all ended so well in 1991.

The Media’s 1991

So what did the media focus on most in its year-end wrap-up issues at the end of 1991? The stuff I just mentioned?

No. They focused on Anita Hill.

You remember. She had accused Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment during his confirmation hearings. In a post-Brett Kavanaugh world, the thing seems almost tame. There were no front page New York Times stories accusing Thomas of being a gang rapist. But a lot accepting Hill’s claim that he was an abuser.

But at year-end 1991, the media made sure it was the one thing you remembered about the year. The far-greater historical things I just mentioned were comparatively downplayed.

Why? Because Anita Hill fit the narrative. The Republican party hated women. Nominating Clarence Thomas proved it. (And let’s not forget what a threat a conservative black justice was to the Democrats, who claimed to speak for all black Americans.)

They’d roll back women’s rights — and not just the “right” to abortion. The party served “powerful males” who’d oppress the poor and racial minorities as well as women. The narrative was crucial to liberal hopes. A year later the Democrats rode “the Year of the Woman” theme to electoral victory.

Now jump ahead to year-end 2021. As I write, my newspapers are filled this morning with references to the events of January 6th. It is suddenly referenced on what feels like every other page. You would think Jan. 6th just happened yesterday.

The Media’s 1991 2021

Why? Because year-end 2021 is year-end 1991. They are doing it again.

The only thing they want you to remember about 2021 is what fits the narrative. And Jan. 6th is their “Reichstag Fire.” The thing they can use to gaslight us and control us for the rest of our lives. Or try to, anyway.

I grant you, Jan. 6th is certainly bigger than Anita Hill. But it was never what they said it was. And there is another thing in 2021 that is bigger than either of them.

2021 is the year America lost a war for only the second time in its history.

You’re not hearing a lot about our ignominious retreat from Afghanistan in the year-end wrap-up stories, are you? At least, I don’t see it in today’s papers. Not like I’m seeing Jan. 6th.

Biden’s abject, miserable exit from Afghanistan does not fit the narrative. Nor do any of his other failures in what has been his first, miserable year in office, a one-year presidency that already feels like a full term … of awfulness. Has he done anything well?

They Want You to Forget

In 1991, they wanted you to forget the Gulf War and the collapse of the USSR. They only wanted you to remember Anita Hill.

Likewise, in 2021, they want you to forget Afghanistan and Biden’s incompetence. They only want you to remember Jan. 6th.

Don’t let them drive the narrative. Don’t let them make you forget.

The enemy of the people. Ain't this interesting?

Frequent consumers of news may be aware of Gallup's annual poll measuring the "most admired man" in America which is typically announced a few days before New Year's.

The poll was done yearly from 1946 through 2020, with 1976 the only year that was skipped.

NewsBusters pointed out a year ago that liberal news media lost interest in the annual poll after Donald Trump started edging out Barack Obama for first place, whereas the networks previously enjoyed using the survey to embarrassing Trump as sitting President failing to come in first place.

This year, a Google search conspicuously shows no sign that Gallup conducted such a poll for the past year, possibly because they couldn't stand that thought having to report what likely would have been Trump coming in first again this year -- after the January 6 riot.

The poll story has typically just hyped the first place finisher (even if it's typically less than 20 percent), so Obama and President Joe Biden would likely have split the Democratic vote between them like last year, making it unlikely either would come in first place.

If that is indeed why Gallup has not released such a poll this year, it says something that one of the most prominent polling firms cited by the dominant media is so biased that they would choose not to do a poll, and break a 74-year tradition, if they expect not to approve of the results politically.

Giving this thread a little bump. So this morning, an old college friend of mine of the liberal persuasion, posted this on FB. My comment was something to the effect of, "I don't doubt that there may be some truth to this, but this meme could just as easily be of the current President. No politician goes to Washington to serve you." 6 hours later, my comment mysteriously disappears.

I just saw that the OP can delete comments, so I'm assuming that's what happened. At first I thought about kicking her to the curb, but if my comment, benign as it was, triggered her so much as to delete it, I thought better of it and just left an :ROFLMAO: on the post.

6 hours later, my comment mysteriously disappears.
I would delete this person as a friend. If they don't allow you to speak, why bother?

Give it another go - I'm sure your friend will assure you she has a book that she is slowly translating that begins, "How to Serve Man With Carpet Parmesan."

Actually she deleted the entire post. Life is too short at this stage to get upset, especially about politics.
I can only control myself, and honestly feel sorry for those obsessed with politics. While I may lean pretty
far to the right, fiscally at least, and Washington is an absolute **** show, it doesn't dictate who I am as a person.

How do you know when a politician is lying?

How do you know when a politician is lying?

"When Honest Hillary tells me he's lying."
- Tibilo

"When he has an (R) after his name."
- Floggy

"When his grifting account exceeds $10 million."
- 21IQ

"When her lips are sliding up and down an erection."
- Kamala H.

"Because I’m going to go like the rest of them do, twice over, OK? Because here’s the deal. And by the way, in Venezuela, we should be allowing people to come here from Venezuela. And Mexico. And Haiti. And Yemen. And Iran. I know Maduro. I’ve confronted Maduro. Maduro is a great boys band. Truanzumplaprester!!"

This does apply to any politician.

It’s more like 6 hours later you were censored.

Here's what actual journalism looks like. I know it's rare. Maybe some in the profession are finally going to wake up and try to get their credibility back by asking questions and not just repeating the talking points that arrive from DNC each morning.

Watch as the Biden rep says russia is planning some sort of false flag op. A reporter simply asks where is the evidence and it goes off the rails from there.

I saw that. Painful to watch. Government lackey basically telling the journalist, "Who you gonna believe, the US government or the Russians?" and "Why would you doubt the US government?"

Uhh, because WMD in Iraq means we should invade, we successfully droned a notorious bombmaker in Afghanistan not 10 civilians including 7 kids, the Afghanistan withdrawal was a success, Covid definitely did NOT come from a Chinese lab, definitive evidence of Russian collusion!, the border is secure, the shots prevent Covid, inflation is transitory.

Shall I go on?
