This win feels real empty, doesnt it?

We didn’t win this game. Ravens lost it. That’s why it feels empty and we’re heading into the playoffs on “luck”. Not exactly comforting.
Agree.

Very similar to the 2004 Jets playoff win. Doug Brien missed a 42 yd FG at the end of regulation that would have won the game. Game was tied at 17.....we won in OT

I've become the older fan now and gotten to the point in life in which I can just enjoy it for what it is. So that game was fun for me. If they were 16-1 or something going into the playoffs I'd have the same view.
You guys attach more to it than me probably. What has happened in the past or worrying about the future. I just don't anymore. To me each year is a one off.
I try to not work myself up, and I don't for the most part. Last night was an exception.

What is frustrating and what should be obvious to even the most ardent Tomlin supporter is how he drags this team into situations they have no business being in, and it reeks of desperation.

For someone who claims to not live in his fears he sure seems to carry around a loaded diaper. From the tush push with a mile to go to the insistence of going for it on 4th down in other situations when there is all kinds of time on the clock and the score is close.

It's not aggressive and bold. Its desperate and frightened.

I mean he came out to his PC still wiping away tears, emotionally spent , and most of that anxiety was self inflicted.

After the game beating his chest and blowing kisses into the camera...LOL...after doing everything possible to lose the game.

And that lucky win is going to be used to extend Tomlin and re-sign Rodgers for barely winning a division that was handed to them by QB injuries early in the year.

That's it. And the thing is it didn't need to have come down to luck. Desperate decisions from the head man made it that way.

I hear you loud and clear. It’s very frustrating for me, and for the same reasons as yours.
However, through the years since the early 70s watching the Steelers, I’ve had my favorite players and coaches, and I’ve had players and coaches that I did not like at all.
Just like anything in life, whether it’s your family, your coworkers, or players and coaches from your favorite football team, you’re not going to like or enjoy visiting or working or watching them all play a game on TV. However, if you like your job, you still go to work, if you love your family, you still spend time with all of them, and it’s the same for me with my favorite football team.
Like anything in life it’s not perfect but the good definitely outweighs the not so good.

Anyway, it’s the way I look at things in my crazy point of view.
Agree with ALL of that.
What's been missing the last 10+ years for me, though is HOPE.
Not Chris Hope, but actual hope.
In the mid 80s, in the late 90s/early aughts, no matter what garbage QB or RB or WRs we trotted out, I ALWAYS had hope that we could win, not that we necessarily would win.
Sincerely, I have not had hope in the last 10+ years watching this team.
I've been watching since the 70s, and I have NEVER felt like this.
Is it me because I'm older and more inclined to cynicism?
Maybe.
But it doesn't feel like that when I actually reflect on everything.

On a scale of 1-10 the game was an absolute 10 on the exciting scale for sure.
At the end of the day, we are sitting at 10-7 just like last season with Russell Wilson, just like the season before with Mason Rudolph. We have beaten 1 playoff team all season, it's ok to say the game was exciting, but still have doubt in them, because you still see things that have been going on for a long time.

This is a pathetic thread. Shiit, they won. They beat the Ravens and knocked them out. These games are so many times a little different. Idk what is going to happen next week, but whatever it is, we can deal with it. So why not just enjoy the win?
There you go again jerk….if you don’t like the thread get the f out

I echo
I mean it should have been an exciting game... but it wasnt for me... it was predictable.. so much so that it was almost boring...

Maybe im just not as invested anymore

Maybe Im just too cynical about this team winning in the playoffs that it just didnt matter.. maybe Football has just tweaked the rules so badly and has too many ridiculous endings anymore...

I dont know, but that last play I literally was virtually tuned out for... not even an ounce of celebration. It felt less like we won it as much as they lost it

This team is far more talented and plays such a stupid brand of football... like seriously, why is every first quarter complete **** offensively... why is it that an O that struggles all game long always comes alive in the 2 minute drill or as soon as we fall behind late...

Why does the D collapse on 4th down so often... or 3rd and long, or after we take a late lead?

Like i should be euphoric after that win... I HATE harbaugh abd strongly dislike the Ravens... I love the Steelers...

But I feel like we will come out next week playing super conservatively vs that Texans D and their O is going to press our D early... and playing from behind will mitigate their biggest weakness ( that oline) while putting our O in a terrible position vs their D...

Like this team has some serious talent and depth in enough areas they shouldnt be limping into the playoffs as a 4 th seed..

Its not even just a coaching thing... its like the whole franchise is stale and needs something to shock it back to relevance..

Like im really hoping for a win ext week just to see if my tank is totally empty for them right now... because at this point any playoff win is basically our super bowl
Ditto, you’re so right.

For me what hits home is I remember sitting next to my girlfriend now wife in a very similar situation in 2006 when a flawed Steelers team was saved by the Colts missing a chip shot field goal, I ran around our tiny duplex like a fool screaming when that colts kicker missed.

I felt no emotion last night in fact I was laughing when Boswell missed and when the rats kicker missed, I just turned to her and chuckled and said “he missed”

Am I older yeah but the way this team plays, the constant glaring flaws, it’s taken the passion out of it, that being said I’ll glued to the screen next week like Charlie Brown hoping Lucy doesn’t pull the football away😎

No, I don't wanna.
Then F off you pretentious *** hat no wonder everyone hates you, coming in here and pissing on peoples opinions and thoughts is all you do here f off

Do you ever wonder why almost no one responds or likes your posts? This is why

I’m happy that most of you are excited and that we won the game.
It took a missed FG with 2 seconds remaining to win this game but nonetheless it’s still a win.
We were very, very fortunate to get this win with poor clock management wasting all three timeouts in the second half, poor playcalling especially the Gainwell sweep from the Ravens two yard line with two defenders. Going for a tush push from our side of the field with more than a yard to gain. Ignoring Muth until the final drive. Patty Queen covering, trying to cover the speedy Zay Flowers.
I think witnessing all this just leaves me feeling blah this morning. Yeah, I’m happy we won but I’m not excited for the future knowing that the level of play will greatly elevate now that the post season begins.
I’ve been watching the Texans all year and I can tell you, they ain’t the Ravens,
Tomlin, Smith, and Rodgers better have their best week of practice if they want to have a chance.
They won’t be able to get away with the things that happened against the Ravens. This defense can lock any offense down. The offense isn’t the strength of the team but CJ can make plays.
Enjoy your victory week because it could be very short lived.

Its 11:20 here... so far the only person to mention the game in the entire office is a Raiders fan who didnt even watch it... its not the same as a win like this ised to be.... it just isnt and i dont know why

I think part of it is we are all older and realize it is just a game.

99% of my staff are Raven fans.
Today is a good day

Why are you pisssing on mine? Aren't I allowed to have any?

You wanted them to lose yesterday, didn't you?

How funny a kick that veers to the right changes most folks attitude around here. Had that kick veered more to the left the entire atmosphere around here would be sullen.
I guess the fact that it came down to a kick that these kickers make like 9 out of 10 times can alter fans entire attitudes.
It’s one game but keep in mind that the problems surrounding this football organization and its coaching are still there.
They will show their ugly heads soon enough.

No I didn’t, and a massive F off to you for making that assumption but that’s what the Tomlin first/Steelers second crowd does, question people’s fandom, you say you don’t do it and cry foul when you get called on it, but you just did it in black and white

You’re the one who came on this thread and started pissing on people’s thoughts, it’s right there you did it twice, all anyone has to do to see what you’re about is to scroll up in this thread

It is football.
It has happened to us and for us.

You are right. The problems persist. I don't think enjoying the win makes anyone not realize that. It's not that deep. It's just enjoying beating the Ravens for the division title.

It's like Christmas if you have to work the next day. Do you worry about work or just enjoy Christmas for the day?

I spent early December travelling in Europe. Steelers/Bills and Steelers/Ravens were the games impacted by my trip.

I was able to stream the 1st half of Steelers Bills but went to bed at half time as it was like 1AM. The next morning I started reading about the Bills running the same play like 27 times and the Steelers could not stop it. The same ******* play! I was grateful that I went to bed.,

For the Ravens game I was in Rome and it was very difficult to find a steam so I watched a YouTube broadcast of some Jarboni giving play by play. Not optimal, but it worked. The Ravens game gave me hope.

When I returned we handled the Dolphibs on MNF. When I was younger I was excited for MNF. It was a guaranteed game that I could watch. Now, I LOATHE them.

34 years ago I was the President of the Steelers fan Club in WS NC. I would get hammered during the games. It was a lot of fun. 33 Years ago I made a decision to quit drinking. What I discovered was that when sober, a stressful Steeler game would kick my ***, particularly a poorly officiated loss on a MNF game. It was worse than a hangover the next day. I would feel it. As I got older a loss like that I would feel for 2-3 days of total *** dragging.

Before the Lions game I said that this is the type of "shock the world" statement game that the Steelers would win in the Tomlin era, I also added that the Browns game the following week is the typical "**** the bed loss" the Steelers would crap out during the Tomlin era.

Bingo!

The Lions game damn near killed me, Afterwards, I went for a walk for some fresh mountain air. My chest was tight, my shoulders were tight. I have not felt that much stress since the Colts playoff game when Bettis fumbled at the ******* goal line and Ben made the shoestring tackle. I laid on my couch until halftime of the next playoff game.

I remember the Penguins Red Wings final game when the Pens won the Stanley Cup. I remember at 5 minutes to go, going out for some mountain air and watching through the window on my front porch. 2 minutes to go I am on the street, watching the game through the front window on the porch.

True to form, the Steelers **** the bed against the Browns. To me, that was the last straw. It is one thing if the Steelers lose a hard fought game against a division rival. But the product sucks. It is a joke and rival fan bases laugh at it. We do not attack the middle of the field, we avoid it. We repeat the same mistakes over, and over, and over yet again. It is not enjoyment it is pure frustration watching the team.

It is not Canada, it is not Fearful Fichtner, nor is it Pickett, Hodges, Rudolph, or Tribusiky. It is all on Tomlin. And Rooney2.

Last night, after the goal line debacle to end the first half. When we should have taken the 3, to offset the 3 that we gifted when we should have punted. I went to bed, same old ****, same old Steelers. I do not regret it one bit.

I am elated that we won, that I was able to watch the game this morning knowing that we won. and that I did not stress my *** out at bed time. I have to drive to the coast today,

Go Steelers!
