Time to try the trade

I just love the Ben haters on here that are too wet behind the ears to remember the years and years and years we floundered without a franchise QB. Sure, the team voted Bell as MVP but the true MVP was Ben and it has been for years. Without Bell, the team still wins 9 plus games. Without Ben, we come no where near 8-8. We might get 6 wins, if that. Give me a break! We would have won on Saturday if the D played even slightly better. The Rats didn't have to punt until the end of the game. I guess that was because Bell wasn't in the game. I guess the stupid penalties were also because Bell wasn't in the game.

Even though our O put up good numbers on paper this year, they still could only put together a 30 minute game. They didn't play full on in any game this year. They would be very scary if they would play full out for 60 minutes.

Son of a *****, would you people calm the **** down and realize that this was step forward this season?

I'm still not a fan of Tomlin or Haley and I still feel that Lebeau needs to retire. But, the personnel ON THE FIELD are producing. Lets face it, It took us fans not showing up on a Monday night football game to send a message to the Steeler's organization. After that night, Tomlin made some big moves on the roster. Allen was benched and Blake was brought in. Bryant and McCullers suited up and produced right away. The Mental midget mistakes and penalties and turnovers started to decline immediately. The team started to come together and finished the season strong. THAT IS A GOOD THING.

Personnally, I dont like the fact that it took Tomlin so long to make the roster moves and I believe, and have no proof, that the Steelers organization forced Mike to make the changes due to the fan's vocally calling them out and by not showing up to games. Bell and his amazing season opened up the passing game and bringing Bryant in to stretch the field really opened it up even more. This alone made Haley look like a genius but lets face it, Haley is what he always is, a jagoff who cant call an offense.

I only hope that the Steelers can draft a CB and Safety in this draft that can step in and help next season.

what about trophies? two SB victories three appearances?

maybe a big difference there (wink wink)

I wasn't talking about what BR has done in the past (wink, wink). I was talking about this season.

I'm saying that the Texans finished 9-7 - not much worse than the Steelers - with the starting QB trio of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mallett and Case Keenum.

And with Keenum at QB, the Texans soundly beat the Ravens just two weeks before the Steelers lost to them. BR's SB appearances and wins are nice. But they didn't help much Saturday night.

This **** is old, 8-8 is not a winning season either, this is exactly what mediocre means. I'm not a fire Tomlin person I could give two ***** either way, but you seem pretty quick to point out Bens faults, and he has the same record as Tomlin since he has been here, Ben has one losing season but he also has two more winning seasons and one more ring than Tomlin does. just saying.

You and I both know that this board heavily tilts toward everything "Fire Tomlin". He has his faults, for example- I would like him to move on from older guys much more quickly than he has. But its almost laughable how much burn the topic gets compared to other Steeler forums. Its almost become our schtick. But how can you look at our roster and expectations coming into the season, and say that the coaching staff (from Tomlin to Munchak) did not outperform expectations?!

But you speak any ill towards Ben and people go CRAZY. In fact, you even attacked my last post where I actually dont even criticize BR7 at all! We all know Ben is great- but when you are discussing giving a player ~$20mm, its ridiculous to not explore your options.

True but I don't think you can just point to this season as a comparison

9 seasons out of 10 A franchise QB is more valuable than a stud pass rusher IMO

Steelers haven't broke the bank fior a player, but at the same time they see the importance of a franchise QB.

They will not explore anything but a contract extension....

That is as far fetched as my desire to bring in Houston in free agency. Maybe even moreso........

If a team were interested in getting BR, they'd be much more concerned about what he has left than in what he's done. It's the old "past performance does not guarantee future results."

As for Watt, he's much more than a pass rusher. There hasn't been a dominant defensive player in the league since Lawrence Taylor. And he's still young. Unfortunately, Ben isn't.

My initial post was never "Ben sucks, get rid of him", but that doesn't seem to matter. My Grandfather always used to say"You can not argue against EMOTION, by using FACTS".

Fact -
Ben is/was a top 5 QB.
Ben is (I Believe) currently at the high point of a career that will be shortened due to his style of play.
Ben will expect more than his last contract, due to this years results.
There are a number of teams that would love to have him.

My point is - See what you could get for him in a trade, nothing ventured, nothing gained. If you do not get what you feel you need, you don't do it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ben is not the last franchise QB that will ever be made. There will be others.

Don't get me wrong, I DO NOT BELIEVE Coach Cool Shades could find that QB.

i don't want to see them make the trade because in my heart i think there would be about a 20 percent chance that they'd actually draft healthy, ready replacements with the picks that they'd get

One great thing about the Steelers is that since Dan Rooney took over they have for the most part been managed and coached by people who are smarter than their competition and critics. I believe that will continue but to each his own.

I'm not saying he is awful, just statistically, he is at his best trade value NOW.

He's also at the greatest retention value to us NOW. There's no guarantee that we could exchange him for any number of players that would give us a net improvement in our overall success chances. Trading him almost guarantees a substantial decline in offensive performance... you think we can just get another ~5000-yard passer who'll be ready to go for us next year? Can we get enough defensive value for him to improve the defense enough to account for the drop in offensive output we'll suffer?

This is just parity in the NFL. It's exceedingly difficult to assemble and keep together all the pieces for a long-term successful team. If there's any one position that it makes sense to break the bank on, it's a QB, all the other talent comes and goes from year to year, but it's damned hard to just plug any old QB in and have success.

Amen......................
