Tomlin Deserves Credit

Since when do we give a damn about regular season records? I thought the goal was to win playoff games and the SB? He's been an absolute failure in the playoffs for the last what 7 years?

Until 1995 he had an above average QB and a top defense and did what exactly with it? I'm tired of the Cowher talk, there were just as many fire Cowher threads back in the day...

Neil O'Donnell was above average???? Since when, he never once completed more than 59% of his passes as a Steeler, his highest td total was 17, and his average QB rating here was like 81.
No one is saying Cowher is a perfect coach, but he made 4AFCCG with crap QBs, while Tomlin has made 3with a HOF QB, he won 9 playoff games without a franchise QB, Tomlin has won 8 playoff games with a franchise QB.

Please explain how this turtle ball lost us games? We never lost a game when we were leading by at least 11 points in the second half under Cowher, we seem to lose one every year under Tomlin, we gave up 14 points last week in the fourth qtr and 18 points in the 4th quarter the week before.
I love the turtle ball narrative. Neil threw the ball 52 times in the 1994 AFCCG, yet we lead most of that game.
2001 AFCCG we ran the ball like 8 or 9 times in the first half, compared to 26 passes. We came out throwing in each of the 2005 post season games, yep sure looks like turtle ball.
I think trying to hang on to a 4 point lead for an entire half with your back up QB while your HOF QB stands there and watches is turtle ball.

A qb he was, essentially, forced to take. The real point is, why didn't we have a better one before?
Not sure what you are pointing out. If you bring up the Marino thing I will just curl up into a ball and weep.

SORRY ark, that argument isn't what's being compared. Compare BEN's time with Cowher as to Ben's time with CMVLT. Nothing before and in clwher's case nothing after. Steelers 12 put up good numbers and makes a very valid point. The before Ben w/Cowher is irrelevent as to when BEN is gone TOMLIN's time can't be argued yet.

Cowher's time > Tomlin's time

Lol!!!!! You must be 20 because obviously you can’t remember what it was with Cowher.

Cowher's time WITH BEN ROTHLESBERGER is greater than TOMLIN's time with BEN ROTHLESBERGER.

READ and comprehend much???? Look at Steelers 12 post #142 as those are the numbers, show me where TOMLIN has better number in the catagories described.

I know what Coach Cowher was like as I've been around a long time but the arguement is ONLY the time Cowher had BR vs Tomlin's time with said QB,..........Kapish????

To add to those numbers

Tomlin was 5-2 in the playoffs his first 4 years with a roster dominated with Cowhers players,

in the 8 years since he is only 3-4 in the playoffs, in Ben's absolute prime, a lousy.375 playoff wins per year. To think this moron is suddenly going to start winning playoff games with his ****** defense and coaching is beyond laughable. We are what we are, a non factor in deciding AFC and NFL championships.

Six AFC Championships in 15 years. Tomlin needs to make it three times in the next four years to match that.
And 4 of those without a franchise QB.
How many coaches have taken teams to a conference championship game with 3 different starting QBs. Hell how many coaches have coached teams to a super bowl with two different QBs?
Cowher had Ben for 3 seasons and won 5 post season games, Tomlin has had Ben 11 seasons and has won 8 post season games.

Next thing will be the Cowher players on TOMLIN coached teams......... TAKE THE YEARS AWAY from CMVLT as to Cowher's players so the arguement isn't there and use ONLY TOMLIN"s players years,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Jaded even more........TOMLIN has had ample time to establish "HIS" team and look at where/what it is. But don't lose sight as to the legitamit arguement of the time BEN was with Cowher and the time BEN is with TOMLIN................. Enough said as no arguement there.

Just like it was for Chuck Noll and Bill Cowher, it comes a time for a change, Does Tomlin deserve to be fired for his performance over this past year? I personally say yes. Will he be given another year to make changes? Probably. If he stays, Butler and Tomlin's Tampa Two as well as the SPTC must be shown the door, They need a DC with fresh ideas and assistant coaches who can develop players. This defense is not without talent. The scheme is for **** and must be abandoned. The bargain basement FA signings must stop. Has Morgan Burnett been on the field for what maybe 2 games total. They knew he had injury problems when they signed him. Jon Bostic has played the run pretty well but his pass defense is ******* scary to watch. In a league that is all about passing is Bostic even relevant anymore? We are trapped in no man's land. A HOF QB and WR who might not want to start over with a new staff. And a HC in Tomlin who runs a ****** defense and whose grasp of in-game management is wretched at best. The only "sure thing" about this season is that aliens have kidnapped Chris Boswell and replaced him with one of their own who has never kicked a ******* football before in his life.

So ultimately this is what it boils down to Tomlin vs Cowher?

What it boils down to is we have a ******* retard as head coach and no more Super Bowls in our future as long as he is here. You seem to think he is fine, the **** shows he puts on on a regular basis says otherwise. There is no way to defend his awful coaching and decision making on Sunday. Thankfully the national media, even the local media and ex players are starting to see the light. When former Steeler greats start knocking the POS the fans will follow suit, Tomlin is a dead man walking thank god.

It is good to see the local and national media starting to FINALLY take notice.

Tomlin has a winning record, but he was HANDED a great team to start and a Hall of Fame QB. Add to that, the Steelers' organization (stable, successful)... he's driven the Ferrari off the road...

Bullshit, the next time they win under a Tomlin, all the apologists will be back in force. Don’t forget ROONEY is the biggest Tomlin apologist there is.

Don;t think so. The best thing to happen to us would be be getting hammered the next 2 weeks to go on a 5 game losing streak and to see the national media quit pussyfooting around and tell us what they know but have been afraid to say about Tomlin. Any average coach could have duplicated his record with the Steelers but very few could be this impotent in the postseason and this year with Ben, etc.

Burnett and Bostic are journeyman bums at this point. Edmunds is a rook and made few plays...missed a lot of plays.

We did absolutely **** to account for the loss of Ryan and that is practically inexcusable.

We draft great offensively, but our defensive choices in the last 5 years have been poor outside of 2014 and Watt.

It hurts, but as soon as they lost to Oakland, I was thinking about how this team could very well lose out -- and is that what I want, deep down inside? I mean, come Sunday, I can't imagine that I won't be hoping for the best, but what happens, by some stroke of luck, if they manage to beat NE or NO and win the division?

Then the apologists get another set of AFC North Division Champion hats and t-shirts, the Steelers most likely lose to the Chargers in the first round, or certainly at KC or NE in the second round, and we're back to where we started. Hey, the guy never had a losing season, he has his team in the playoffs just about every year, this offense is fun to watch, etc., etc.

The only thing that may create a stir is losing all three remaining games, I think. A six-game ****-show to close out the year has to open some eyes, right?

Yeah Tombert has to get rid of that bargain basement scrub acquisitions.

I am not even advocating stars to be brought in in free agency. Just somewhere in the middle instead of waiting until everyone has picked through the litter. If they would just step up on D and pick up three to four players /upgrade. This team could be talented enough to overcome some other deficiencies.

A faster ILBer is needed maybe even two. One in the draft , one in free agency. -high priority
A better option opposite Watt.-free agency
A better FS, the Davis experiment is failing.- free agency-high priority
A better CB opposite Haden. - free agency - high priority
A better RB opposite Conner. free agency

In the draft you are looking for a speedy WR, speedy RB, and a OLB option, ILBer and a G.

Resign Jesse James.

3 weeks ago I was amazed at Tomlin. Then this **** happens.

I was the first one on this board to say hire that man. The 2008 season and his coaching was spectacular. He directly help win that Super Bowl because of his attention to detail and his insistence for the defense to finish on turnover plays. That led to James Harrison's 99 yd touchdown interception return.. They practiced it. He insisted that they practice it during that fantastic playoff run.

We should have won the 2010 Super Bowl. We blamed Arians for a dumbass game plan that did not focus on GB's weaknesses and Mendenhalls untimely fumble (as a result of Whiff's attempt at a block.)

But then the decline started........and time after time after time the same problems occur some of it is lack of talent, but some of it is inexcusable in game decisions that sabotage the teams efforts to win.

I want him to succeed. i want to win. After the latest debacle in Oakland, I wonder will he ever learn?

Will we ever learn?

Some would blame Tomlin for this.

I agree that Cowher built an awesome defense. I don't agree that O'Dummy was an above average QB.
