Tomlin is not as dumb as many of you think

Obviously.

I was looking to see if you (or anyone) knew more to add to this list???

Yah or Nay, the Rooney’s have a lot to do with the longevity.

C'mon Stillwright, I'm critical of Captain Cool Shades but he IS a good Coach. He does a lot of **** that bothers me to no end but you can't say he's average or less IMO.
Above average during the regular.

Let’s get a little more precise …instead of saying good, bad, or average, it would be fun to know what letter grade yinz all would give Tomlin.

A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C- D+,D, D-, F

Let me guess on a couple.😁
Berm A+
Lloyd F

Me, I was thinking B+, but I lean toward A-.

FYI….I looked it up, A- is not the same as B+

Actually, I'd give him a solid B. There are some true holes in his skill set as a coach but the man is absolutely above average in my book...

Yeah, I was just kidding with you, but with Lloyd, not sure F was an exaggeration.

I should have made a separate thread on this topic , taken everyone’s grade and calculated the mean, median, and mode.
That would be the scientific way to determine Tomlins true grade leaving no doubt!
Wouldn’t it?
Eh maybe not. Lol

I don't think he is dumb. I've never thought he was dumb. I think his x and o chops are mid at best. Now to the play. The Steelers tried to sub package guts in when the Jets were not changing personal which means he can catch you on your change. He burned a timeout. That is not 3d chess exactly.

He's a solid B for me.

The real question...is he smarter than a fifth grader?

THIS WAS CHESS SHEESH MAN...

You do know A-Rod is has FAMOUS for Catching 12 men on the field & getting a free play right?

This could've ended up going for a TD...
He can only catch you with twelve when you try to put in a sub package when they don't sub themselves. And if you have a grouping on for down one and tgey do not change......you should be good. That is pretty frigging basic.

I'd absolutely give him a solid B, or maybe more. He just can't be stupid with all the wins. And I'm not sure he has holes in his skill set. What drives me crazy is his stubbornness - meaning I know myself when I should or shouldn't do something and I do it anyway. Some of the stuff he does AT TIMES is mind boggling....and that's what makes me wanna throw stuff during a game.

I'm in that "B" to "B-", but B is above average and B- is just above average and he is better than just above average.

It's the post-season that I'm patiently hoping for some peak performance and tactical brilliance.

From the looks of it they have the horses to get it done. They'll need good health at key positions to have a chance at knocking off the top dogs.

When Tomlin first arrived.....I gave him credit for everything he did. SBs and all. As time wore on(seasons)....and players left. Coaches left. And our success in the playoffs left....my opinion of his ability also left.

Maybe this year will be different. I see our defensive side of the ball playing a more aggressive coverage scheme. With Russ in there now. Maybe we go a bit more aggressively on offense at times.

Maybe this is the year he takes his past errors....and learns from them. For us to take a step forward Tomlin himself has to stare into the mirror.....and perhaps actually blink. He has not been perfect. He has to concede that fact. For him as a coach to move forward beyond what we have seen for the last decade.

Maybe. Just perhaps he has blinked in the mirror. I for one hope he has.

Tomlin is not stupid. Far from it! Sure, he makes some questionable decisions at times but the man is not a stupid man by any means.
I’ve gotten damn frustrated by him over the past 18 seasons but like I’ve said in another post, if you’re going to criticize him you better be willing to praise him when he does well.
He seems to get dumber as the playoffs approach.

You can't be serious.

Now read your third and fourth sentence and ask who actually put that team in place. Tomlin never HAD winning ability. This ****** went 31st against the pass in MN as defensive coordinator in 2006. Know why the success left? You just said it but forgot to add one component: Bill Cowher. Cowher's players left. Cowher's coaches left. So did Tomlin's playoff "success". The 2011-present is the REAL Mike Tomlin.

That's because 3-8 in the playoffs in 13 years while leading the league in pro bowl appearances between 2011-2021 impresses you. Shocker. 😂

I give Tomlin mad props for being smart. He was intelligent enough to interview well for this particular job with this specific ownership group at the right time, get the position, and hold it for 18 seasons and running. Despite not winning a playoff game in his last seven years, which is unheard of in today's NFL without a change being made. And along the way, he's managed to increase his salary from $2.5 million a year in 2007 to $16 million per as we speak.

Yeah, this guy is plenty smart. For his own purposes. Tomlin's milking it like a fat dairy cow, and I can't say that I blame him.
