Yeah, I didn't realize what a revamp system this is. Watching the film I just see guys lunging a lot and bad hand placement. When I saw what Meyers wants to do it started to make sense. They are just uncomfortable with this system and technique. It's something that is unique in the sense you are using both your hands separately to punch, you pre-read your assignment based on how the defense aligns (not back pedal and see how the defense reacts) and are usually the aggressor making first contact. (again not backpedaling and trying to maintain poition)Yes. I saw a similar thing about a month ago. Its definitely a concept that requires high technical attention and quick decision making… that first strike is super important and knowing when to fake it to get the dl to overcommit…
I don’t think the average fan realizes how different this is.. its like the changes in 2008… drastic and some of our guys might not be capable
I hope we find some decent guys from other teams cuts. If we just find a big body to get in the way it would probably be better than Green. What we should do is run 2 TEs ...
It’s not a good thing when Chuks is your best lineman.Kendrick Green is the highest drafted OlIne pick in the last 10 years for the Steelers. Let that sink in.
It's impossible to not put these problems on leadership decisions, really.
2021 draft:
Creed Humphrey at 55
Quinn Meinerz or Ben Cleveland at 87
Humphrey at C, Meinerz or Cleveland at LG.
It really is that simple.
And that does not even take into account Supe's favorite player from the 2021 draft, OG Trey Smith. A 7th round pick, Smith starts for the Chiefs at RG. Rumor has it they have a decent offensive line with two guys (Humphrey and Smith) that the Steelers passed on repeatedly for "splash players."
****-ing hilarious !!!!If only there was someone in charge who the buck stopped with.
Let me be clear, I like Harris and Freiermuth as players. However, RB and TE are arguably the two least valuable positions in football outside of special teams. It's not an exact measurement of value, but if you look at the franchise tag rates K/P is at the bottom followed by RB and TE. I personally would've preferred the combination of Humphrey/Freiermuth because RBs aren't great value in the first round for a team built like the Steelers. It defeats the purpose to invest in a back if you don't have a strong line in front of them. And that does not even take into account Supe's favorite player from the 2021 draft, OG Trey Smith. I know Smith fell because of health concerns, but he was 1st/2nd round talent. I sorta understand waiting until Day 3, but I take him 10 out of 10 times over Dan Moore, Buddy Johnson, Isaiahh Loudermilk, and Quincy Roche.
The OL problem appears two fold. It's an organizational philosophy right now and that really comes down to the fact the head coach doesn't value offensive line play. The second is whoever scouts/evaluates offensive linemen needs replaced.
We used to be a team that valued having a great center, those were the days!Excellent post SteelerFan448, thanks for all you great ones along the way.
Picket in the 1st I can understand, they feel like he is the man and I'd say they know him better than any other QB and better than any other team.
As for CREED, I couldn't believe they didn't take him, virtually a lock up center for 10-15 years. Best in the league talent.
The trenches are where it is won or lost, as you stated a top RB needs a line, QB needs a line, everything is dedicated of the line play.!!!
Salute the nation
while we dump the blame on Tomlin, how much must also be given to Colbert? He was the GM and helped assemble this travesty.
I'd hope Omar (not the idiot who posts here and brings down the board IQ level) would have more desire to improve the team overall.
I love Freiermuth but Creed H should have been the pick
I'd like to see Le glue get some more reps with first team.
Can Hass play nothing but center? Just curious.
How can the line be worse as some are suggesting? Whom did we lose to make the line worse? Wouldn't this group at least grow in experience and strength? I don't understand how with a year together they would be worse. All we can do is hope for the best. Maybe they can pick up someone early on.
