Tomlin rips O line

How can the line be worse as some are suggesting? Whom did we lose to make the line worse? Wouldn't this group at least grow in experience and strength? I don't understand how with a year together they would be worse.
Everyone said 2021 couldn't be worse than 2020 and it was. Don't doubt the incompetence of this group. Kendrick Green and Dan Moore have not improved (yet) from their rookie seasons. James Daniels has been a disappointment. Chuks is adequate in pass protection and a poor run blocker. Who knows what we have with Dotson and Mason Cole is just a guy, but a guy better than what we had last season.

while we dump the blame on Tomlin, how much must also be given to Colbert? He was the GM and helped assemble this travesty.

I'd hope Omar (not the idiot who posts here and brings down the board IQ level) would have more desire to improve the team overall.

This up coming game will tell us a LOT about the state of the offensive line and coaching staff.

Look at the game starters and if after the game there is big change to season starters then the coaching has failed.

I think coaching / coaching philosophy / scouting /all need to get on the same page or bring in better coaching/scouting talent.

This offensive line isn't suddenly a new problem and yet is treated minimally both in investment and coach hires.

So he ignores the line for 10 years in the draft and then rips the garbage he has accumulated, Tomlin is a genius.

Tomlin fans. What areas has he improved on in 15 years ? Specifics would be appreciated

What other coach stupidly talks about a players pedigree ?

Why is he not held accountable for the 6 year playoff drought, the NFL record 3 straight playoff games giving up 40 points or more ?

We have beaten ONE starting QB in the playoffs the last 11 years, Alex Smith. Think he can beat Mahomes,Allen, Burrow, Wilson and Herbert in the playoffs ? LMFAO He lacks the pedigree, globally speaking.

The Steelers spent a ton of draft capital in 2019 to get Devin Bush, spent their 2020 #1 on Fitzpatrick, then took a WR #2, passed on Creed Humphrey twice in 2021, and passed on OL in the first 3 rounds in 2022.

I understand that teams can find good OLman later in the draft and most teams do. The Steelers have not been able to do so. They have gambled on outsmarting other teams by finding underranked gems later in the draft and that approach has failed.

Miserably.
Pats rarely draft OL in the first 3 rounds and they usually have a ton of 2nd and 3rd rounders.

I have no issues with avoiding early round OL draft picks, the problem is that unlike the front office's ability to find gems at WR in the later rounds, they seem to fail miserably with the big uglies. Or is it the lack of coaching?

Oh, I do. The first two rounds have the Athletic Offensive Linemen and then it starts to taper off into the 7th round with nothing left but disgusting fat bodies or TE's who had to eat themselves into a roster spot while in College. I mean, look at Greene, a third rounder who gets pushed backwards so often they should tape a back up alarm (BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!) to his fat *** to warn Mitch he's about to get run over. Let's draft some solid athletic OL and get this team back to winning playoff football.

Do you have such hate for Colbert also as he was a huge part of who we drafted also?

Funny Colbert had no problem drafting OLine when Cowher was here.

I see you can't give any areas of improvement from Tomlin in 15 years.

Dotson has been practicing with the 1's this week. We need him to stay healthy and he will definitely be better than Green. All of the people and coaches who thought an undersized Green at C could slide over to G (even though his natural position) and be even more undersized needs their head examined. He needs to put on a good 20 pounds to have a chance in the NFL come next year and hope his arms grow a few inches. Green needs to not dress most of this year. He's currently not better than our utility linemen behind him.

iI am not a Tomlin fan. But I do not feel the need to bash him and a back up QB every chance I get. call me ztupid
Tomlin is a phoney bullshitter. He hasn't won jack without Cowher's players and only one playoff win in 11 years against a startling QB in the playoffs. If not for the liberal bent of the Rooney's Tomlin would be long gone. No other owner would put up with his tired shtick and wasting of incredible talent the last 11 years and counting.

AMEN to that !!!

You don't consistantly get GREAT OL 4th round or lower. Not everyone drafed 1-3 round OL will be stars but the odds of a 1-3rd rounder being successful over a 4-7th rounder being successful is greater.

Scouting has been miss on OL lately. Coaching philosophy has been "weapons" over OL. I love Najee Harris and his character but 10 years from now we will be talking about Creed Humphrey and his still playing whereas Najee will be gone and short lived career behind a suspect OL.

Teams go as far as their "trench warfare" players take them.

you bitching about it from thread to thread will not change anything. Everyone on this board know exactly how you feel about Tomlin and our back up QB. One would have to be really ztupid to not know how you feel about those two.

While the Pats are hardly the standard, for anything but cheating, we’ll use them as the comparison. This was just from a quick 3-5 minutes of internet research so pardon of any errors…

The past 10 drafts

The Pats selected OL with picks: 23,29, 78, 85, 101, 105, 111, 118, 131, 140, 166, 179, 182, 195, 197, 210, 211, 221, 230, 245 (20 total picked)

The Steelers: 87, 92, 123, 128, 131, 173, 213, 219 (8 total picked)

They have definitely invested more heavily in the OL than us by a fairly wide margin.

Get the Hell out of here with that bullshit. I'm no Tomlin apologist but Steelers fans haven't witnessed a losing season in almost 20 years. Yes, it's frustrating to see a talented team go 8-8 and/or one and done in the first round of the playoffs year after year but don't act like Mike Tomlin isn't a good Coach and the Rooney's only keep him around because they're...ahem..."liberal"...It's because they like the guy, the players love the guy, and he brings in revenue for the organization. The Stadium is sold out every game and the fans pack other team's stadiums to watch their beloved Steelers. So, why change that? Why risk firing a good coach (not a great Coach) and bringing in a potential dumpster fire? In case you haven't noticed, there are coaching carrousels all over the league looking for a Coach Tomlin. It's rare to find a Hall of Fame level of coach. Hell, there have only been 27 Coaches inducted into the Hall of Fame in the last 60 years, 8 in the last 20 years. Chew on that a bit.

Enjoy your team winning 3playoff games in 11 years with 2 against backup QBs you got your token. Enjoy.

A good head coach would have done much much better with this team.

First off, the Steelers are not MY team, When the Steelers win, WE dont win, THEY win.

Secondly, your statement concerning a good Coach doing much better with the Steelers is completely baseless and pure speculation. As I said, I'm not a fan of Captain Cool shades and I'm as frustrated as the next fan on how they've finished the seasons BUT, don't act like MT isn't a good Coach. I can point you to several metrics that back up my statement.

The lack of post season accomplishments has been sickening under Tomlin... While I'm happy the team gives us mediocre winning seasons, as a fan I expect more. The goal is not to point at just being over 500 and being satisfied. There is and has been something lacking, everyone knows it. It's time he is held to the fire and quit praising and holding up mediocrity. We will see what happens and give him eternity to turn it around.
