Tomlin says there will be changes to staff. Outside OC as well.

Tomlin in his presser said there will be changes to his staff and that the OC will be coming from the outside.
Says Kenny will be his guy and acknowledged that Mason played well. Said he didn’t know if Mason would be back though.
Said he was still hungry to win.
Really came in to the presser acting much different and very responsive and respectful with the media. I wonder if something was said to him. The best he’s sounded.

Art Deuce laid a law down. Those that think Art is invisible have another thing coming. This is his livelyhood and he takes note of what is being done and why. I’m sure ART has a circle and has surrounded him with trustworthy people/advisors.

I think between CXoach Tomlin and Art2, they had a meeting, maybe Kahn & Wiedl were there as well.

In any event, things are going to change and just maybe we get a more positive outcome.

I’m literally shocked that he admitted he’s going to look outside for an OC. Unless that’s an order that already came down from on high.

Of course TOs were a bad problem. So was running with 9 in the box, running the next play with the same thing, little play action, etc.
And running 5-wide from the four yard line on second down contributed to one of those turnovers.

And nor will our owner, too much $ for FAs like that; that's not the "Steeler way."
We're always right up against the cap so you're spewing BS. Unless you're referring to the fact the Steelers traditionally use cap space to take care of their own like TJ.

Everyone has a right to complain and there's plenty to complain about just sticking to facts.

I just want an OC who can make decisions, and not be required to play turtle ball.
Let's also have one that knows how to use the TEs in the passing game as more than window dressing. Maybe one who doesn't dial up Jet Sweeps as often. How about one whose route trees on 3 rd down require at least two receivers to move beyond the sticks?

If he’s committing to KP now, I doubt they’ll be looking to bring in anyone of the Russell Wilson/Kurt Cousins/Justin Fields pedigree.
He said they would have competition it wouldn’t just be handed to him. I don’t want any of those vets personally. I want investment on the lines and middle linebackers. Kenny or Mason will be fine with a new OC if they are competent. Build the team from lines out.

Put the crack pipe down. I will wait and see how much input Tomlin has on the schemes we run. OUR defense sucks. Will he still have his stamp on it? We lost our last 5 playoff games. We gave up 40-plus points in each one. Out scored 66 to zero combined in the first. If Art2 laid down the law Tomlin would be looking for another job and Omar could bring in HIS guy. No. An extension is coming and I would imagine much of the same that we have seen over this past decade will be what we see going forward.

That is the biggest thing that worries me. Can he be hands off the offense? He really should find a better DC too and be hands off that as well.

I have serious doubts he can do it. My outlook would be a lot more positive if he could. But I look at it as doubtful. I would love for him to prove me wrong. But what we have seen so far doesn't tilt in the favorable direction.

Just keep sticking to the same old fartastic replies. Quick: name our most substantial free agent signings the last 10 years. Cole? Good one. One of the 10 ILBs? Great guns. Tru-skinksy? Nice. He's fabulous. Pete Pat? Awesome.

The defense can be fixed even with Austin. He was limited by weakness up the middle. We really need to strengthen the MLB position and ad another stud DL.

I dunno I don't care for the scheme. I think they need someone new with their scheme....

I wouldn't complain but I am more worried about the offense. Fixing the offense will go a long long way towards fixing the defense. More ball control and the mentality that the defense can gamble a bit more and the offense is capable of scoring if they are not perfect every time. The defense needs to be able to play a little more loosely and have fun.

If we're looking at other guys on this staff whose work has been subpar and probably deserve a good look at replacing, I nominate Garrett Giemont, the strength and conditioning coach.
Every year it seems like some rash of soft tissue injuries hit this team. It would be one thing if they were of various types that hit different players throughout the season. However, it seems like each year the players all get the same type of soft tissue injury. One year it was hamstrings. This year it's been groins. Every year it's someone with a pec injury. Too much of a coincidence to not have something to do with the training regimen that he has the players on.

WE are certainly not the only team to have these same issues. Due to the constraints put on the teams I have to put the blame for this one squarely on the shoulders of the NFLPA and it's players. They asked for more freedom and got it but that means they hold the responsibility for much of the offseason training. The teams can tell them what they should do but much of the off season they can't force them to.

Biggest issue I had a problem with We deviated from what Mason did the three games before. They dared us to throw over the top. We should have with GP and Muth, with DJ underneath coverage. That would have had them backed out to a two high safety look and allowed Najee and Warren more room. But hindsight is a waste of time. With a new offense, playbook and play caller hopefully predictability will be gone.

I found it interesting that he said he wanted an outside OC that had coordinator experience. Then you are getting a recycle. Go young and innovative.

If a team gets a deep turnover and drives down the field, that is not a result of the turnover... its a football logical fallacy.

A pick six or return/ recovery in your own zone is turnover related points.. when the other team gets it where they were going to get it on the kickoff anyway, then its on the defense. That turnover takes the 3 or 7 off the board our way, but the seven scored on us is directly on the BS defense we run
Come on Mad, you know that “drive“ after the pick was only Allen’s 50+ yard run. Sure poor tackling on that play, but before then the D was making BUF work hard for gained yards. Had they kept it up BUF may have just got a FG. (Pure speculation of course).

Clint Kubiak the passing coordinator from the Niners would be my choice.
I do not really want Leftwich who may have been more a product of Tom Brady and Bruce Arians being there.

My sentiments as well. I want complete outside the organization if possible.

You guy's on here crack me up! LOL! You piss and moan because Tomlin doesn't do this and doesn't do that. Like hiring from outside. Then when he comes out and says "we are going outside to hire an OC", you are still pissing and moaning!

Seems to me that you said the words pissing and moaning quite often too!!!!

Relax, take it for the context it is.

Spot on Lebanon. Decrease in OTAs, padded practices, practices in general. Heck camp at Latrobe, according to some of the guys in the 2000s who were there then and nowadays as coach interns or media all say it’s a cake walk, with the exception of Friday Night Lights at the high school. All of these were collectively bargained by the NFLPA on the last CBA. They didn’t realize that all of these reductions just impacts player conditioning and compromises possible playing incentives built into their individual contracts. Easy to see why De Smith is on his way out as NFLPA union rep.
