Trump ****-cans N. Korea Summit

Diplomatic flurry suggests U.S.-North Korea summit may go ahead

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea has dispatched top officials to the United States and Singapore, media reported on Tuesday, the latest indication that an on-again-off-again summit with U.S. President Donald Trump may go ahead.

North Korea’s Kim Yong Chol, vice chairman of the ruling Workers’ Party’s Central Committee, was scheduled to fly to the United States on Wednesday after speaking to Chinese officials in Beijing, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency said, citing an unidentified source.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s de facto chief of staff, Kim Chang Son, meanwhile, flew to Singapore via Beijing late on Monday, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported.

At the same time, a “pre-advance” U.S. team was traveling to Singapore to meet North Koreans, the White House said.

U.S. government officials, including the White House deputy chief of staff for operations, Joe Hagin, left U.S. Yokota Air Base in Japan for Singapore on Monday, NHK said.

Democrats are deeply saddened.

Trump is playing this perfectly. North Korea already dynamited their nuclear mountain...they could have used this as a bargaining chip in the deal. Kim wants the meeting badly. Trump has the leverage.

Call me a little crazy, but I see an economic opportunity here. North Korea's very cheap labor selling the cheaply made stuff we import to China? In exchange for total denuclearization and testing with inspection where we want? Hmmm...A win-win for both side. Sorry China, trade fairly :)

Just a little clarification. DNPK dynamited the entrance tunnels to the mountain facility. The facility collapsed months earlier during a nuclear test. It was unusable, and the US already had the intelligence on that. They still have other facilities, but this one was a big setback for their program. They may be trying to buy some time while they get production ramped up again.

That is my expectation, although that photo-op crossing the border seems to be pretty far to go just to buy time.

It's interesting to say the least. Never seen a DPRK leader go on a goodwill tour before, outside of his own country.

Well, maybe the guy is serious, but like many others, I have my doubts.

Do you realize how quickly their economy would take off and how quickly they would accumulate wealth if they opened up their country? The technology just south of their border could modernize that nation in just a few years.

I would love for the Koreas to have a real peace and eventual reunification. I could see a lot of North Koreans killing NK military people and Kim once they find out what the outside world is really like, and the freedoms they have been denied.

You're right, that's the current problem Sarge. They know if they open up, they could lose control. It's very tough for Kim Jong to navigate this politically while keeping his head.

Interesting points you make. That's why I hope they're not rushing this summit. This really is a complex situation with so many potential scenarios both short & long-term.

It’s nice to have a President again.

It's nice to see that you weren't abducted, or at least not permanently. Then again, perhaps you're just a clone, or a hybrid capable of mimicking behavior patterns.

I'm hoping for the best outcome possible, which is ultimately everyone getting along, or at least trying to fake it.

hahahahahahah - haters trolled again

The summit between the U.S. and North Korea is back on, ABC News reports.

PRESIDENT Donald Trump said Friday that the planned summit with North Korea in Singapore is back on, roughly one week after the president sent a letter to Kim Jong Un calling off the planned June 12th summit.

The announcement came after an envoy of North Korean officials hand-delivered a letter to the president from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

"We'll be meeting on June 12 in Singapore. It went very well," the president told reporters following the letter-delivery. "The relationships are building and that's a very positive thing.

I'm glad the hard line worked. Trump actually handled it well. He ended the summit on the rhetoric of Kim's people while still praising Kim for his accomplishments and leaving the door open for future peace talks. A guy who owned casinos knows when he has a good hand.

HISTORIC!

President Trump arrives in Singapore ahead of historic North Korea summit

President Trump touched down Sunday in Singapore on Air Force One for his landmark summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Trump and Kim are scheduled to sit down Tuesday, marking the first-ever meeting between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader.

I rather doubt the Norks can afford their own airplane. Anything beyond simple hand tools they have to get from China.

Trump arrived on Air Force One.
Kim arrived via Chinese commercial air liner.

I think this will be a good meeting. Kim Jong - UN is desperate. He doesn't have oil or industry. he saw how South Korea is doing, they are rich compared to his barren land and about 4" taller.

So he might give up his nuclear program with destruction in exchange for say a seat at the world's table for trade and the lifting of sanctions.

This is going to be a **** show. My money is on nothing substantial happening, and Trump walking away from the table.

You might be right Sarge...

The North Koreans and Kim are in way over their heads with this summit...

Will be interesting to see how they handle the world stage and the "swirl" that goes with it..

My bet is that they will be the ones walking away from the table totally overwhelmed and losing face..

I think at least this meeting will go well. Kim wants fame/ glory and it seems like Koreans are turning on him. This would be a way to save face and make him a hero to the Koreans

2 scoops!

Singapore officials hold surprise birthday celebration for President Trump

Singapore held a surprise birthday celebration for President Donald Trump on the eve of his landmark summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Trump met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday. During their lunch, the latter had a special birthday cake brought out for the American president, who will turn 72 Thursday.

“We appreciate your hospitality and professionalism and your friendship,” Trump reportedly said in response. “You’re my friend,” the president told Prime Minister Lee. The meal also included lobster bisque, beef tenderloin and ice cream.
