twitter updates from camp

I know I'm in the minority on this but I think Manziel can be a player. Off the field is what will ruin him. If he cut the bullshit and put in time to better himself he can be great IMO.

Consign - don't dis JOhnny Football - he could be for real.

It's much better if you sort by number and separate offense from defense. I made my own roster like that for my training camp visit. It's so much easier to reference quickly since the O wears white and the D wears gold. Can't tell you how many people I overhead who were confused by the fact that many numbers are used by an offensive player and a defender.

Thanks Al. This will help too cause this Nick guy tweeted alot more then everyone else be a shame to stop using him..

I think it would be a mistake to use a roster spot on a 4th RB this season (Poole or Maysonet). Unless they are a special team demon, I barely see enough carries to spread out between Bell - Blount - Archer. And neither appears to be superior to anyone we can get off the street or our PS during the season if an injury happens.

I would rather keep another of our young receivers or defensive backs or linebackers as depth and development.

Someone already spoke how Blount could eventually get annoyed with lack of carries as the season wears on. I see no reason to bring another 'mouth to feed' to the RB pod. I would like the extra spot to goto one the WR, or the standout TE and Safety at camp this year....

I have a feeling Blount eats up the TD carries inside the 5 so I could see him getting 10 touch downs which will keep him happy.

Also, I hope we keep 6 WR's from what I have read in camp is we have a lot of young potential there. I think if we keep five it's either Justin Brown or Moye who get cut and it sounds like Brown is a perfect possession move the chains guy and Moye has been awesome in the red zone.

From what I've seen this far in the "highlights" of Johnny Manziel's camp, is that he has a long way to go. His footwork isn't there, getting beat in both speed and distance in his drop backs and his front foot isn't pointing towards the throw. His hips aren't opening up as a result and his throws are off. WAY off. He is slow to release the ball and the timing is off. Most this is what you would expect from any QB in camp, but by comparison, Hoyer is far ahead of Manziel at this point. I wouldn't give a squirt of piss to be in Pettine's shoes as he is going to have deal with the pressure from management, fans, and the media to get #2 in the game.

Merrill Hoge just said that Johnnie didn't even understand the offense at Texas A&M. He even showed a play where he was suppose to throw the ball on a certain read and just ran for no reason. I don't like running QBs because most always have that "I'll run if I get in trouble" mentality. I've watched him for 2 years and IMHO he has a very limited chance of being an NFL QB. Terrible footwork, bad reads and almost no understanding of the offense.

There is no reason to keep a 4th running back based on the guys that we have in camp right now. They are just bodies. We can wait until final cuts to see if someone we like better is released (but wouldn't we have to fight the 49ers and Giants?) or just stash the best of the bodies on the practice squad.

I don't see a need to keep Moye or DHB as the 6th WR unless one of them really adds value on special teams. I would much rather go heavy in numbers on the OL or anywhere on defense (it seems like we actually have some tough cuts at LB and DB this year).

Yeah if Howard Jones continues to ball out. He wont sneak on to the practice squad..

Meh I mean how many plays per year could you pick on Ben or any NFL QB and say he was supposed to do this or that but didnt. As far as bad footwork and stuff that may be true and he may not study football like he "should", but that doesnt mean he is not capable. I think too much stock is put into fundamentals. Look at how many different golf swings / pitching / batting / bowling styles there are. As long as he is accurate then I wouldnt mess with that stuff. I think too many people try to "Fix" QBs and end up messing them up. As far as Johnny's transition to pro I am skeptical. I think he is too immature / cocky and will never "get it." I think that he could turn out to be like Russel Wilson, but he will have to have a major attitude adjustment. I think that Johnny is smart, but whether he applies it fully or not will probably make the difference. I do not think he will be able to run anywhere near like he did in college so he better be prepared to read some defenses.

Dick LeBeau bullish on Shazier, Tuitt

LATROBE – Dick LeBeau has a high opinion of Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel. The longtime Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator is similarly impressed by a couple of rookies he sees on a regular basis.

LeBeau, in fact, couldn’t say enough good things on Wednesday about inside linebacker Ryan Shazier and defensive end Stephon Tuitt. LeBeau expects Shazier, a first-round pick in May, to start this season and for Tuitt, a second-round selection, to play a lot.

“I don’t want to overload their plate but I would say they’re ahead of schedule,” LeBeau said. “They’ve been very much a pleasure for the whole coaching staff mostly because of the type of people they are. They’re very open to coaching. They’re hard workers and they know they’ve got a lot to learn and that’s not always the case.”

LeBeau is enamored with the physical ability of both players as he tries return the Steelers’ defense to the NFL’s top tier after it finished 13th in total defense last season.

Tuitt
Shazier, the 15th overall pick of he 2014 draft, runs like a defensive back. His athleticism also translates well to an NFL game is that is becoming more wide open. The 6-foot-5, 303-pound Tuitt has a unique blend of size and athleticism, and it is probably only a matter of time before he supplants Cam Thomas at left defensive end.

“Even though I knew he could run, when I see him in person I am surprised by his endurance and his speed and quickness,” LeBeau said of Tuitt. “I don’t know if I’ve seen a guy that big move like that. Now does that mean he’s going to be a great player? No, it doesn’t. There’s a lot of other things that come in there. But he seems willing to try to acquire that knowledge and those skills.”

Shazier has been the starter at weakside inside linebacker since the outset of offseason practices, and he has all but won the starting job because of the speed the Ohio State product and Lawrence Timmons can provide in the middle of the defense.

“I think those two guys are going to give us a lot of speed at a position that doesn’t necessarily feature speed. We’re going to be fast at inside ‘backer.”

Shazier and Tuitt will play in their first preseason game on Saturday night when the Steelers visit the New York Giants. To say LeBeau is excited to see how each player fares in the 7:30 ET game is an understatement.

“These young guys I don’t want to overload the expectations but at this stage they’re doing a good job,” LeBeau said. “I’m glad we’re going to start playing some games. It makes the evaluation process a little easier and perhaps identify some of the areas we need to focus on.”

Yeah if Howard Jones continues to ball out. He wont sneak on to the practice squad..

The only two picks I would have changed in May was Shaq Richardson in the 5th, I wanted John Urschel. And Branchflower in the 7th, I wanted Howard Jones. I am excited we got him as an UDFA and am glad he really has impressed in camp. Also, I am glad I hear Richardson is doing well in camp also. This might end up being one of the best draft classes the Steelers ever had knock on wood.

Yeah howard Jones was highly sought after the draft.. if he contiues to impress he has to be on the 53 or we risk losing him. Wont make it thru waivers without being claimed.
