Uncle Jarvis

Well, if one leaves a message board because of stuff they don't like in a thread, then don't let the door hit you in the ***.

I don't know why people who have been on the board for longer than a year or two don't know or or won't use the ignore g function. I've only used it twice when someone just became an insufferable **** and I no longer gave a **** what they opined. Unfortunately, supe was able to get on my pc at home and UN-ignore him.

Classic!!!

So, people get their vaginas hurt and don't come back?

Yeah, that ain't it. I'm a big boy. I can handle being disagreed with, even called a dick or whatever. I probably have it coming. That's not the issue.

How many reruns of the same tired, unfunny, juvenile, ****** show can a person stand to watch?

I grew up in a military home, moving around the world every year or two. And two of those years were spent in some remote wasteland in Canada. Not much to do when winter lasts 9 months of the year. Football one month, baseball another. So when me and my brother weren't in the basement beating each other with hotwheel tracks we were watching TV. Lots, and lots of TV. There was only one station then, the CBC. One. Still, there was a good eclectic mix of programming on that one channel. Monty Python, Benny Hill, some Lorne Green wildlife show, some weird kids show called Dr Zonk and the Zunkins featuring a young John Candy and Gilda Radner. Coming Up Rosie, with Aykroyd and Candy. SCTV just launched. But there was one insipid show that we absolutely hated. Some POS show called the Irish Rovers, 5 cheesy ******** in knit caps standing in a meadow singing crappy music.

Anyone make it all the way thru that?

Anyways, that's what this board is becoming. One channel of the same crap. You come here expecting some variety of something half-way intelligent, or funny, or whatever. And all you get is the same thing in every thread. About 5 lame ******** who think they're funny or doing a public service show up in every effin thread singing the same old tired ****. Every thread turns into that show. There's no escaping it. Well, there is one way.

OK, if you say so, but that is, exactly, my point. If it is 5 people, 10 people or 20 people, why not put them on ignore? Makes no sense to me. Hate to see you go, but if it is what you feel like doing, I can't stop you. ****, for all I know, I'm one of those.

Yeah, it doesn't work that way. Every thread seems to get salted with this bullshit to where any legitimate football discussion can't grow, and just chokes off and dies. It's pervasive. Ignore doesn't solve that. It's a useless function anyways, as soon as someone quotes them.

It still brings all the same joy as telling them to shut the **** up. Try it.

Ok, then, works for me, though. Carry On.

IMO, we've all gotten fed up with the antics of the personnas on this board at one time or another.
not to mention the over-the-top prima donnas who claim to want to talk football, but belittle those who make a mistake on something.

TMC has always been my favorite for discussing stats, tendencies and things of that nature. dobre and del, while I don't interact as much with them, are pretty highly regarded as well.

The ******* who get my *** chapped are those who seem to always find a negative in every game and harp on it. endlessly. win or lose. week in and week out. month after month, season after season. regardless of what the negative nancys and debbie downers say, we have a rather talented team. we were still within ONE play of making the playoffs last season, if memory serves correctly (Brown stepping out). At the end of the season, I thought we were finally getting in gear. We faced a **** ton of adversity at the beginning of the season, but somehow managed to finish 8-8 despite starting out 0-4 and losing 5 of our first 8 games. We won 6 of our last 8 games, including our final three. We also had the best record in our division (4-2). Yet if those facts are pointed out, someone would post something negative about it and everything spirals downhill from there. Yeah, but ... if Tomlin...if Colbert ... if Ben... if the defense ...if Sanders ... The THC comes out in full force after every loss and never lets up. One particularly smarmy douchebag seems to almost always post a backhanded positive post no matter what.

we all come here to read more about the Steelers and we all have our favorite posters, but some jackasses never seem to have anything positive to say...which ruins the experience for nearly everyone else.

Sums up my thoughts and frustrations perfectly. The fact that Supe said it is depressing and makes me want to do a re-assessment of my personality.

why don't these debates end up anymore in "well, let's just agree to disagree". someone always has to have the final word and then the one upping keeps going and going

I will fully admit and apologize in advance that sometimes when I don't get the last word with my wife, I will fight to the death on the Steelers message board to make up for that :-)

Let me say this. I've been on this board for 14 years, and anyone who tells you the place doesn't ******* explode with positivity when the team is excelling.. is lying to your face. It's nuts when we're succeeding. Even those like myself, Vader, TMC, etc. - those of us who relentlessly despise the Steelers - are ******** our pants with optimism and predicting the lwoB repuS. I was convinced after we lost to the Packers that we would see another 2-3 Bowls under Tomlin and Ben. The team looked that good. They had perhaps the league's best overall roster. They knew how to consistently beat Baltimore. The defense wasn't to be ****** with. The QB was working on a HOF resume. For some bizarre reason, there's less optimism since the roster began to fall apart and the Tebow loss and the back-to-back 8-8 seasons that followed and the stupid decision-making by the team. I know, I know, that's all subjective. The team is actually AWSUM and this is a fluky lull in the dominance promised to the Steelers by the football elders. But the scoreboard doesn't back that up, as we consistently lose to shitfuck teams and are now fighting off the Browns to stay out of the cellar.

Yeah, it's a weird correlation I've noticed. When the team is excelling and contending for the Super Bowl every year, the fans applaud their planning and execution. When the team loses most of its talent base, slides into mediocrity, and misses the playoffs in back to back years.. the fans question their planning and execution. I'm not sure if there's anything behind that; could be a coincidence.

As for those who are so intensely bothered by negative or skeptical posting, I recommend picking up a pack of AA testicles from the nearest pharmacy or convenience store. Might I suggest, as you folks so often do, that you skip/ignore such hateful, inflammatory posts as "Jarvis had a poor rookie year" or "Timmons missed that tackle." Or, I guess, just ***** relentlessly about the lack of neverending positivity about our suddenly mediocre team. Takes all kinds!

Some are whining because of the arrogance of posters on here. The arrogant opinions on a message board. Oh, the ******* humanity of it all. It's almost as troubling as the Holocaust. I think we should open PTSD counseling centers for those whose flowery sensibilities have been damaged when their smarmy bullshit was responded to by more smarmy bullshit. Because it's MY opinion, and I don't WANT you to disagree with it, or I may just tinkle my onesie if you do! The way I see it is simple: if you have an opinion, you need to be able to back it up for it to be taken seriously. You think Jarvis is on an All-Pro career track with no reasoning to support it? OK, that's fine. I might (gasp!) tell you that I'm not convinced. And when you shoot back what a ****** fan I am for doubting Jarvis Jones or William Gay, expect to be told that` you sound like an idiot. Nobody cares if you don't know something as well you thought you did, But if you know full well that you have zero idea what you're talking about, it's probably best to avoid being a smarmy prick about the issue. If you are, your lack of knowledge and/or support for your position could well be called out. I don't see much about that that's unfair.

damn...supe making a sensible post....the world will end soon....

Just as in real life, admittedly arrogant behavior on a message board, very likely will cause a negative reaction from others around you. Why is this surprising or unexpected?

Chicken/egg. Why not just shoot back at it with a stance of one's own instead of whining about mean posters?

Because most people find arrogant people irritating. It's a normal part of life.

Believe it or not, we are all NOT perfect. I try to stay up beat, look at the good, smile a lot, then blur by the posts I don't like. Why read it if it makes you sad? Some of the post(s) here are very informative, I try to thank most for their time / effort. Many give me a different perspective about the game etc.. The "last word" syndrome, for some, doesn't end on this message board. I'm afraid in their real life, they have inner issues, that they need to deal with. Easier said than done as this can be a non accountable world of sort. I fully thank the informed and constructive POSTER(s), they have a feeling who they are.

Salute the nation

you've patiently asked for an example of you being a conceited and pretentious prick about your posts.
this is your most recent example.

if you fail to see what others have tried to point out to you, then no one else can help you.

Absolutely untrue. I've asked for examples of my "lying," or refusing to admit being wrong, or hating Steeler players just for the **** of it. (The grand total came to zero. Zero examples.) That said, following the words on your screen has never been your strong point. I've admitted to being "arrogant" and not really caring that much

You just re-type the same post soooo many times over the course of a day. ****, probably 95% of your posts anymore are either to or about me. Your contributions are appreciated, I guess, even if they're being laughed at.

Here on the most pussified corner of the internet. I'm conceited and pretentious! Again.. oh the ******* humanity.

you're a self-fellating grandstanding drama queen of the worst kind. you seek validation where you are not going to be validated...which is here. you consistently try to one-up everyone with your blase attitude and getting you to give a compliment is, as one poster stated "like pulling teeth." You claim to have been here for "14 years" and while I doubt that, I do know you've been around a few years. I wonder what the correlation between this board going to the ******* and your presence is, though. When you claim that "95% of your posts anymore are either to or about me" you should back that up with stats, less you be vilified for posting something untrue and talking out of your ***.

So, I shall "wait patiently" for you to show that "95% of my posts" are either to or about you.

champ.

I will add this.

I am a bit disenfranchised with "sports" right now and that includes the NFL and the Steelers.

The constant milking of EVERYONE for every last ******* nickle can be sickening. And I really don't think there is any organization, entity or individual above it or morally better than others.

Maybe it's the tone of the country right now with such a huge division between the wealthy and their employees. I'm sure that has spilled into my love of sport and competition. But I will be honest and say I am more cynical of the Steelers organization than I ever have been.

Does that make me less of a "fan"? I'm not sure. I still root for them on Sundays. They are still my favorite team.

This is much, much different from how I felt in 2006. Let's face it, the economy was better back then. There might have been less divisiveness. This was before the financial crisis and the revelation of just how ******* greedy corporate America was getting. The Steelers looked on the verge of a dynasty. I was a new father.

Just as with the country, I can honestly say what has transpired to the Steelers since 2006 and has been less than awe inspiring. Just like the country, I think the Steelers got a bit greedy. Frivolous. The 2006 draft was bells and whistles (WR's and a 5th round QB). We had a huge need after Jeff Hartings and could have had the best center in a generation (and I still think Mangold is better than Mack or Pouncey). Instead we started the "milking the 30-year old" philosophy. We started neglecting the trenches, pandering to "new NFL" and our new "franchise QB".

After 2006, all signs pointed to Whisenhunt as the next coach in everything but name. Instead, everything unraveled, the young QB got to throw his weight around on coaching decisions and we've gone down a path of very questionable philosophies. From Tomlin to Arians to draft picks to the rotating O-line coaches.

Has there been a decision since 2007 that has been 100% correct? That you can't find some degree of questions about?

I don't know.

I just don't get the Steelers vibe much anymore. They look the same as everyone else. They all make stupid decisions. They are all frivolous with picks. They all throw money around sometimes on the stupidest things. The Steelers to me aren't acting like an elite franchise anymore. They are acting like everyone else.

I expect a decent season, but it's hard for me to get excited when for every up, we just fall down into stupid football and ugly losses. Might not be this year, but next. This team acts different after 11-5 seasons than they do with 8-8 seasons. They act like they chase their tails and make decisions like the wind blows from year-to-year. It's very hard to have faith in that method of management. It's hard not to ask WTF? 4-5 times a year now.

It's like everything else. Politics, finance, sports, TV.... no conviction to principles or philosophies. Just jumping around with the way public opinion goes. Maybe I'm getting too old, but I just see through the bullshit on so many levels from this organization.

Pretty negative, huh? But that's kind of how I feel on a lot of things right now and that's where my pulse is at. No wonder I think the same about my football team.

Has there been a decision since 2007 that has been 100% correct? That you can't find some degree of questions about?

Part of why I don't buy the "board is different" now stuff, is because you could copy and paste Cowher's name into a lot of Tomlin posts and they would read much like they did before 2007. The drama was all the same, just different people involved.

I feel your pain regarding professional sports. I still enjoy going to Ray's games with my son and to Lightning games with my other son, but we don't spend hardly anything on merchandise and I can watch virtually all of their games on TV when I don't go to one. Plenty of games for both where you can watch as much or little as you want.

The NFL is different. The last year, I only got Sunday Ticket because of the comraderie (sp?) of having guests (even Supe) over for games. Maybe, I'd feel different if the Steelers were winning, but I don't know for sure. It started when the "defenseless receiver" **** started, so I don't think it has anything to do with winning or losing. I LOVE smashmouth football and we don't get to see much of it anymore.

I didn't have a problem with the defenseless WR rule. I hated the "can't hit him with your helmet... crown of your helmet... or maybe it's the facemask." That rule is so stupid because going full speed it's almost impossible for a ref to figure out. Guys are taught to see what they hit... which by necessity means their facemasks are going to hit someone.

How about the "Landing with full body weight on the QB" penalty? I hate the ******* NFL most of the time these days. I watch with clinical interest now, not much emotional interest. To be honest Fantasy Football is the only reason non Steeler games hold any interest for me whatsoever at this point. I used to never miss a game just because I loved to watch.
