The Las Vegas hotel room of gunman Stephen Paddock, who killed 59 people and wounded more than 500 at a country music concert, was littered with assault rifles and bullet shells, photos of the room show.

A Boston 25 News reporter tweeted a photo of Paddock’s room that shows a hammer along with dozens of casings on the floor and a bullet magazine. Among the casings is an assault rifle fixed with a scope and bipod.

A second photo showed another long assault rifle with a long magazine and handle at the front of the stock.

Police believe Paddock used a hammer to bust a window in his Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino hotel room.

They found 23 firearms inside the 32nd floor room, where Paddock had killed himself before cops arrived. A handgun and 16 assault rifles were part of his horrifying arsenal, authorities said Monday. They believe he snuck them into the room a suitcase.

At one point, Paddock fired 280 rounds at the crowd in the course of 31 seconds.

Cops were able to find his room 20 minutes into the shooting because the tremendous amount of gunpowder triggered the hotel's smoke alarms.

Stephen Paddock, the Las Vegas shooter, had an arsenal of 17 weapons in his hotel room, mostly military-style rifles, according to a law enforcement source.

At least one of them had been modified with a legal “bump stock” style device that allows the shooter to rapidly fire off rounds without actually converting it to a fully automatic weapon, the source said.

The devices modify the gun’s stock so that the recoil helps accelerate how quickly the shooter can pull the trigger. The devices are legal in the U.S.

Other weapons may have been converted to fully automatic fire, and were still being examined, the source said.

Paddock had four Daniel Defense DDM4 rifles, three FN-15s and other rifles made by Sig Sauer.

Paddock apparently bought the guns legally, passing the required background checks.

At least six of the guns were purchased at one store, a Cabela’s in Verdi, Nev. A manager at the store declined to comment.

Several other weapons were purchased at Discount Firearms and Ammo, a few blocks from the strip in Las Vegas, the source said. “It’s an open investigation,” said a store employee, before hanging up.

Paddock, who lived in Mesquite, Nev., also bought some weapons at a store there, Guns and Guitars, according to a statement given by the store owner to USA Today.

“He had good-quality, high-powered rifles,” the source said.

Authorities said Monday that Paddock had used as many as 10 suitcases to transport the arsenal to his room at the Mandalay Bay and had smashed open the room's windows with a hammer-like device.

Investigators also found more weapons at his home and are now working to track down all his gun transactions, including some at Nevada gun shows. Records show that Paddock had owned at least 30 guns at one time or another.

Ignore the video title

Look/listen to the video at the 4:59 mark - you can hear the auto firing

The guy owned two planes - he had money to blow.

He was worth more than $2 million, relatives said. Before retiring, he made a small fortune from real estate deals and a business that he and Eric Paddock sold off. He traveled a lot and had millions of free airline miles.

At various points of his life, Stephen Paddock worked for defense contractor Lockheed Martin and as an accountant and property manager. As a retiree, he had no children and plenty of money to play with. So he took up gambling.

looks like a strobe light from the lower window

full auto AK-47

My cousin (different last name) had his house raided by the ATF a few years ago and was charged with a low-level felony for selling gun parts on eBay to turn semi autos into full autos. He's the sort who's always skated on the edge of the law to make a buck though. These days he owns a used car lot where I'm sure all the cars have low mileage (giggle, snort, giggle).

yeah, you're right - the shooting was higher up - that's the fire alarm strobes

sound sounded like a crank trigger, fast then slowing down

and the chick doing the video sounds like someone reporting a broken lawn sprinkler - 'yeah, I guess I should be going'

I'm still baffled to what his motive was and why those innocent people? A well-off, "normal", retired guy goes postal? Makes little sense. I just don't get it. He had enough ammo and firepower to take out a lot of people and do a ton of damage. WTF!

my theory is jilted lover syndrome (his girlfriend was out of the country - so did she leave him or was she just on a vacation of some sort), and he was absolutely consumed with hatred over the Trump presidency.

Bump fire controllable enough for the long burst automatic fire sound strings I heard? questionable

Yeah I didn't think it was one if those either but he did have one. The other thing that gets me is a full auto M-16 can empty a 30 round magazine in less than 9 seconds ( at least the older ones could) seems like the first burst lasted far longer than that. I know those are 40 round or more mags in those pics but it just doesn't add up.

Could just be my perception, I didn't put a stopwatch to it.

OK, anything is certainly possible, so then go to a ball field and take out some more politicians. I'll never understand a mentally unstable person, but damn, that's a whole lot of innocent people that was not there for anything, but a good time. If he was ISIS, sure, he hates Americans and wants all 20K dead, but this guy. . .

Gambling debt maybe. And in todays narcissistic culture one can't just off themselves, others must pay as well.

Wig.....is that you? And listening to the bi-sexual confused Michael Wiener AKA " Savage"? My.....my...

What does his real name and his sexual procilivty have to do with anything? Means NOTHING to me.

It was some combination of depression, anger and resentment. I'm guessing he realized that nothing really made him happy anymore, he was retired and he didn't have anything to look forward to, just death.

It seems that his only job was being a professional gambler so I wonder if he lost a ****-ton of money in the casinos?

if these are indeed the guns used, and we can only at this point assume they were, where's the silencer that Hillary went off the ******* rails about?

I think she was saying if he had had a silencer, it would have been worse as it would have taken people longer to figure out what was going on and police longer to locate the shooter.

She's a moron - a silencer on an automatic weapon won't change it's lethality

ISIS Persists in Vegas Claim, Dubs Shooter 'Abu Abdul Bar al-Amriki'

After federal officials announced today that they saw no nexus to international terrorism in the Las Vegas Strip massacre, the Islamic State doubled down with their claim that Stephen Paddock was theirs -- even granting the Mesquite, Nev., resident a nom de guerre.

ISIS claimed through their Amaq news agency this morning that the "Las Vegas attacker is a soldier of the Islamic State who carried out the attack in response to calls for targeting coalition countries." They claimed he had converted to Islam recently.

They issued the claim in various languages, without evidence to back it up.

The special agent in charge of the FBI’s field office in Las Vegas, Aaron Rouse, told reporters, “We have determined, to this point, no connection to an international terrorist group."

The new statement claims Paddock, specifically answering the call of ISIS caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, conducted the attack after "accurate monitoring of crusaders" in the venue. It offered no further proof.

A silencer on an automatic wont even work for long before overheating and jamming.
