surely you're intelligent enough to completely understand that numbers can mean anything to anyone and that 1+1 does not always equal 2 as there could be wild variables at play that make 1+1=something other than 2 at any random point in time, and can also be measured differently and without discretion.

For a quick comparison, check out the 49ers' LB corps. They lose Willis, Bowman, and Aldon Smith, their top three defenders. They replace them immediately (as in, right away, this season) with two STUD draft picks taken late (Lynch and Borland).

Tomlin's Steelers gradually lose Farrior, Harrison, and Woodley over a span of several years. They've yet to replace any of them with worthwhile players.

Harbaugh is a stud coach who has his team galloping to a 5-4 record this year with two of those losses coming against 3-6 teams. One of his players suspended for 6 games is no indication of his inability to keep his players in check. The fact that his team averages only .5 less penalties than the terriblly coached Steelers is not an indication of anything.
