Week 17 Game Thread

I think Pickett was leading the league in pass attempts w/o an int, but he is also not throwing TDs. Some of that is not on him though. Its hard to say how Kenny would have played the last couple games. We know he had a good game against Cinci last time they just couldnt score. If the line protected Kenny all year like they did Mason, then im sure kenny would have looked better. Would he have played as good as Mason who knows, but these were also basically career games for Rudolph as well. Another thing to consider is Kenny has been battered all year so he is going to naturally be more gun shy and have the happy feet. Rudolph had the luxury of coming in fresh against 1 awful defense and a pretty bad one.
True those are good points

Who? No one is saying “hey, I told you so?” Except Andrew Dice Clay apparently.
If you were here longer than 4 days, you'd know. As it is, there's a search function on the board.
I'll help you out though. As much as it pains me to say it, FordFairlane has been on the "Mason is better than Kenny" bandwagon for a long time. Hell, he was driving the damn thing.

Where is he then?

Yep. No one mentions how Kenny had to run out of the pocket in like 1 or 2 seconds and Mason seems to have all day. The line is playing better and the receivers are getting open. Not pickett’s fault.
Somewhat true, but he has a tendency to abandon the pocket even when the protection is there. He rarely climbs the pocket, and has bad mechanics. There are all kinds of videos showing his off balance throwing techniques. Those things can be fixed on some QBs...others stay stuck in their ways.

Show me a proof Kenny ran out of a clean pocket. No one has ever shown a clean pocket Kenny ran out of.

Give it a rest and go watch some youtube videos. Plenty of people have shown exactly that while dissecting Kenny's games.

Google it. Do your own homework like everybody else does.
Look, I know you're Kenny's mom, cousin, classmate or some ****. Don't care. It's looking very likely that Kenny is not going to start another game for the Steelers this year. But, that's OK, he'll get a chance to heal up and observe and learn from the sidelines ... oops.

So NOT you 😂

I appreciate the implication. But, I don't have the time to do youtube videos. There are, however, a host of others, former NFL QBs, etc. who have pointed out KP8s shortcomings this year. Google it. Or, keep your blinders on. Matters not a bit to me.
And again, I'm sorry for you, but, it looks increasingly like Kenny won't start another game for the Steelers this year.
Have a great night.

How about this, if I looked up posts from you a month or two ago would you be backing Kenny or no

If you did, you would see posts that were .... like Kenny's play .... mixed. See, you can support Kenny when he's playing, but also lament his happy feet, failure to stay in the pocket, unwillingness to throw deep, etc. It would have been looking at him with rose colored glasses to not acknowledge his shortcomings. I'm a supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers. And, no one player is above reproach when their play is substandard. Even when the team is winning.

That said. Good night. And, I hope, when Kenny does start again, that he plays better than he has for most of the season.

Whatever. There wasn’t a lack of execution and a locker room that appeared to be falling apart. But in y’all’s world, the HC is supposed to control all of that.
And apparently in yours he controls nothing.

Betcha it's somewhere in the middle. Say around .500, .560. 😉

Mason's pocket presence is infinitely better than the other QBs on the roster. Literally two years of incompetence on offense gone, yet some on here believe that an All-Pro QB wouldn't be able to succeed in this offense.
Well, in fairness, the H.O.F. QB didn't have any success to speak of a few years ago.

The offense HAS been awful.

It may be might be more than just 1 problem.

Leaders have no more of a crystal ball than anyone else. **** happens and it’s their job to respond to it. Most people left this team for dead two weeks ago. He’s rallied the troops. If you’re going to blame him when things go wrong, give him his due when things go right.
Always knew he'd hit his holy Grail .500

I have a strong suspicion MT just won his SB.

😂 No one has ever thought Mason Rudolph is quarterback #1. These games have been flukes who in their right mind would have said Mason Rudolph was the best quarterback on the roster. Not one human being and there’s a reason why and that’s because Mason got beat out by Duck Hodges in 2019 and we all saw it then. He has had ample opportunities to become a starter and Kenny only has less than two seasons.
Technically, no. He didn't get beat out by Duck. He was benched in-season for a few games for Duck.

And we all know, backups can have a good game or two because defenses can't key on tendencies. (That may be part of Mason's success now.)

But Mason definitely has a better deep ball, for whatever reason. That may have helped with the running game tonight. The Steelers seem to have. QB who is willing to throw the ball more than 3 yards downfield.

Is it willingness (or lack thereof) to throw the ball more than 3 metres downfield, or being allowed to throw the ball 3 metres downfield, that has been the issue for Pickett?

Looking back over the last 10-15 years it seems a lot of the criticism of Pickett (not progressing past his first read, not willing to throw the ball, not throwing to open receivers) seems to have been similar to the criticisms directed to all Steelers quarterbacks not named Ben in that time period. I'm pretty sure the same criticism's were made about Rudolph the year Ben was out, and if memory serves me correctly Landry Jones (remember Antonio Brown going off the deep end when his 5 catch, 50 yard streak ended in a game Ben was out?) was in the same boat when he stepped in for Ben. I think the real issue is Tomlin's lack of trust in inexperienced quarterbacks seems to dictate his offensive philosophy and that lack of trust was then made to look even worse for Pickett because he had a complete idiot gameplanning and calling plays.

In fairness, Kenny was pushing the ball downfield more in the 1.5 games he played after Canada was fired.

Even prior to that, he flashed the ability to rip it downfield, but his feet need to be completely set to do it.

Mason has the ability to get the ball downfield when off balance. Watch his two long throws to Pickens last night. They were all arm.

That is one big difference between them, but I'm still not ready to close the book on Kenny yet. To me, he has shown enough overall talent to believe he can still maybe put it together going into his third year.

However, I'm of the mind set that Mason has played more than well enough to play the rest of the season (however longer it is) and be given an honest opportunity to compete to be the starter next year.

It was even a criticism of Ben in his final season. He was checking the ball down a lot in 3rd and long situations that year.

mason has never shown pocket prescence in his career. he has done better in the last two games

He has always had a good deep ball but a few of his short ones today were very high and the WR made good plays to bring them in

historically he has not done well in the red zone but the running game covered for that today. THey have not called on him much in the red zone so no way to know if he has improved there are not

I would guess that if KP is given almost 200 yards in the running game his passing game might improve also

Shush.. Rudolph is the second coming of Peyton manning and you know it… 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Actually, there were a few that thought MR was the better QB on the roster. There were even some of those that wanted to go with him instead of adding MT. It was obvious to some that MT was NOT the answer, and KP wasn’t really ready yet, and were willing to go with MR to start last year.

Once Tomlin made the switch to KP last year, it was going to be his spot until they were done with him forever. MR never got a legitimate chance @ QB1 or QB2, for some reason. This just PROVES that Tomlin AND his staff have no idea when it comes to QB evaluation or development.

I have always wanted to see MR at least get a fair shot, now that Tomlin has been PROVEN wrong, I would not even entertain an offer to stay if Tomlin is still the HC.
Winning post.
