He's on his third concussion in ten months. Dude isn't having very good luck. One thing though that I can't stand is all the talking heads calling for him to retire. That isn't anyone else's choice but his and his families. He knows the affects it can lead.

He would rather play until he can't anymore and then sue the NFL.

If the league is serious about this, then he should, at a minimum, have to sit for 60 days with no contact even in practice. At this point in his career, he should consider retiring. This is all on him and not the league.

Never liked the dude after he went to New England, but he was a damn good slot wide receiver and I got a laugh out of his foot comments geared toward Rex Ryan. I really hope he is smart about the rest of his career.

Wes Walker approves of this message...if he remembers it tomorrow.

True...they know the dangers and it should be their choice. But it's funny how, when the pay checks stop coming, they forget what they knew and sue.

He does need to strongly consider retirement. His team owner, needs to sit him down and have a serious talk then repeat it often. Welkers wife, needs to have a serious talk to him, maybe even Ryan Clarke (didn't he knock wes out? ) . Take the helmets off, then let them play, would fix a lot of things......

I've had 4 or 5 over a lifetime I couldn't imagine three in a year. He should get out now.

Knowing women the way I know them, she prefers the fat paychecks.

Maybe you know the wrong women? In his & her public appearances, she seemed pretty down home, so does he. Believe it or not, not all RICH people are about the money. Some, like the poor, are actually in love :)

TDX said it...

If the NFL is serious about player health (and they should be), then they sit Welker. I'd say sit him for a full year of no contact, but you know that would cause an uproar.

I agree that the ownership needs to sit Welker down and talk to him about his life. We're not talking football any more, we're talking about a man's life here, and that should cause us all to take a second look. I love the game, I played it, you had to drag me off the field too...but I cannot imagine endangering my life to go a couple extra years.

Welker has enough personality and presence to have a decent career in the media...

His choice. The concussions may or may not be a big deal at this point. Troy has had several over the years and at one time some of the were fairly close together, I believe it was when he came out of college and his first years as a pro. I don't remember him having problems with them after that. Point is past issues may not be an indicator of future issues with head injuries. The severity of the concussions also come into play as well. I would call the discussion by the talking heads nothing more than spewing the lines they are given by the commissioner and his minions. Failure to repeat the company line gets the threat of access to things reduced which will affect ratings and money so they are easily controlled.

What makes anyone here think any team cares about the well being of the players after they are done playing? They are the only sport without guaranteed contracts, and it's the most violent sport of the big four. They had to be sued to take care of past players who are legitimately ****** up for life from playing in the NFL, and helping make all of them a ton of cash. Players who get injured are dropped all the time with no second thought. The only people thinking of any player's best interest are themselves, and their immediate family.

I had my first one in HS. They used to hit you with the ammonia "smelling salts" and tell you to walk it off. I think I had others as well, the helmets aren't anything like they are today. Coach would tell me I did this wrong or I did that right, I didn't even remember the play. I had a bad M/C accident and even with a helmet on I didn't know where I was for about 2 days in the hospital, all I did was sleep. I'm 63 now and my brothers will tell stories of when we were in our 20's, there are holes in the story I don't remember.
If Wes Welker is prone to concussions he should rethink the NFL, take his money and invest in Berkshire Hathaway.

Sounds eerily familiar, only I went on to boxing after I got out of the army too. I have lottsa blanks in my memory and tinnitus so bad I can't focus my vision sometimes. Neglecting his health will come back to haunt him eventually.
