Two cuts - Jackson and Trubisky - save $25 million.
Nope, instead of just taking the hit last year we stretched it out into this year tooI thought they were saying Tuitt would come off the books after this past season. I guess someone had that wrong.

Why? Front Offices who are smart will go away from this thinking and spending millions on backup QBs who will never take you to the SB. Look what San Fran did with Purdy. Maybe it's time to start thinking of late round drafting of QBs who can game manage and still win a game or two.But Trubisky needs to be replaced by a comparable can win 2 out of 3 games backup which is just robbing Peter to Pay Paul.
A game or two out of how many games? Why? Front Offices who are smart will go away from this thinking and spending millions on backup QBs who will never take you to the SB. I am really tired of the Purdy comparisons. He was the #3 qb there… Francisco spent over 20 million dollars on qbs this year… part of that was their season starter, Trey Lance, who went on injured reserve after a game and a half…as tge 3rd overall pick, he cost nearly 8 million against the cap this year… then they renegotiated Jimmy G’s contract to drop his cap hit to make him more tradeable, but were forced to keep him and with all the incentives he cost them over 12 million dollars … so they spent over 20 million on the position … purdy was just a happy accident..Why? You really wanna pay $8M next year for a backup QB? And I'm not talking about starter money, I'm talking about a backup...an emergency QB. Paying over $1-2M for a backup is starting to look like wasted dollars. Trubisky is $8M next year....think the Steelers could find a better use of money?I am really tired of the Purdy comparisons. hey we drafted a developmental 7th round qb too… we just insanely opted to hang on to Mason for some reason… lol… purdy being anything but tge 3rd qb was never planned… it was injuries that forced him in there… so acting like tge 49’s are only paying 7th round money for their starter is an intellectually dishonest argument

and lucky as **** that they have a championship team around a rookie 7th rd pick
the site is actively rebellingCan’t give karma for some reason……..
Salute the nation
All comes down to it Mitch is ok with staying. If he is then you can tweak his salary. If not you send him packing.Look, I would absolutely bring in an ex nfl QB as a passing game coordinator, but I'm not sure the Steelers will... and they will want a vet Backup with Pickett to help him develop... now I'd definitely not keep Trabisk, id trade him to anyone... because even after this years bump in qb salaries, he still will be at the top end of the backup qb pay scale... the kind of vet they will want will cost at least 2.5-4 million dollars.
I think its a pipe dream to think you can always fill that backup position with a 1 million dollar type player... If you are a championship level team then yeah, do what san fran did and tie up one of the most expensive backup qbs in the league, but if you are going to criticize the steelers plan, it would be keeping one of the highest paid third string qbs in the league instead of a cheap project guy on a team that wasnt going to contend for a champonship... outliers happen... thinking you can undervalue the backup qb spot because of one is just shortsighted
But this is exactly the type of player you are keeping when you are cheap at QB, IF you are not financially mismanaging. So, who really thinks we are going to give Highsmith $15+ per year to keep him? I just really can't see it. He's had one good year and someone will offer him well north of $15 million. I can't see us coming close to that without severely hurting the cap in the future. Maybe we can do it but I just don't see it.
It’d be tough to watch Highsmith walk given his improvement each year and his all-around game. They don’t need to sign him to a 5-6 year deal. Get a nice four-year contract worked out early. I don’t think he’s pass on getting that type of deal early on.But this is exactly the type of player you are keeping when you are cheap at QB, IF you are not financially mismanaging.
I know its tough to let Heyward go but I just don't think he will be here if and when this team gets really good and you shouldn't let a guy like Highsmith walk. This team really struggles with the tough decisions. It’d be tough to watch Highsmith walk given his improvement each year and his all-around game. They don’t need to sign him to a 5-6 year deal. I mean that might be true for a very small handful of teams, but not overall… its all about paying the right players… Mahomes carried the second highest cap hit of any quarterback, and tge Chiefs are absolutely contenders…But this is exactly the type of player you are keeping when you are cheap at QB, IF you are not financially mismanaging.
he would be playing for 3M this season, maybe offering him a $44M / 4 years contract with a bit more than half guaranteed before the season opens would entice him to sign. The Steelers would keep him up until he hits 29 years old.So, who really thinks we are going to give Highsmith $15+ per year to keep him? I just really can't see it. Maybe. We need a No. 1 CB and No. 1 ILB. Do you want to put another $15+ million at OLB? It's a tough question. We are paying Watt and Fitz at the very top of their positions. Cam has a huge cap hit and if he is extended, it won't come down much. You have DJ making a good bit and Chuks making more than he should. Where's the money going to come from? These players (other than Cam) will still be here in a few years when we have to start paying big bucks to KP and Pickens and Muuth, etc. It'll be interesting to see how they work this and I hope they don't go back to kicking the can down the road like they used to do. But, that other thread was talking about windows of other teams in our division when we really don't have much cap space to play with now and we don't have a franchise QB contract to worry about yet. I think they will offer Highsmith something respectable and in line with a player who had 1 good year and that year hinged on Watt being on the field. I'm thinking $12 milllion-ish.But this is exactly the type of player you are keeping when you are cheap at QB, IF you are not financially mismanaging.
I like Alex, and it would be a shame to lose him. You draft a guy, develop a guy,he performs as you’d hope for a 3rd round guy......then he’s gone. Doesn’t seem right. That being said..... he’d be nuts not to see what his value is on the open market. With some of the figures thrown around here, crazy not to look.he would be playing for 3M this season, maybe offering him a $44M / 4 years contract with a bit more than half guaranteed before the season opens would entice him to sign.
