NFL stunner: Texans trade QB Brock Osweiler AND a 2018 second-round pick to Cleveland for the Browns to take Osweiler’s $16M salary of Houston’s books, per league sources. The move clears out millions in salary-cap space for Houston to intensify efforts to sign former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, per sources. To be exact, Houston saves $16 million in cash and $10 million against their cap this season. The Texans also will get the Browns’ fourth-round pick this year in exchange for their own 6th-round pick. So Cleveland gets Osweiler’s contract, a 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick, and Houston gets Cleveland’s 2017 fourth-round pick, saves $10 million in salary-cap space and $16 million in cash. Cleveland is not committed to keeping Osweiler and is likely to try to trade him, per sources. If so, it would turn into a basketball-like trade in which NBA teams routinely trade contracts to get them off their books; only it rarely, if ever, happens in the NFL. It’s hard to remember in the salary-cap era another team when a team traded a contract to get it off its books. But Houston was so anxious to rid itself of Osweiler and move on to its next quarterbacking chapter that it is giving Cleveland extra picks to take him and his contract. The Browns headed into this free-agent signing period with over $100 million worth of salary-cap space and would struggle to spend it all. Now they can devote some of it to Osweiler’s contract and acquiring extra draft picks from Houston. But this is one of the most, if not the most, creative trade in NFL history.

??????????????????????????

Sounds like they bribed Cleveland with a 2nd Round pick just to take Brock and his money off of them. Good grief lol.

Factory of Sadness trades for a new shop foreman. What a joke of a franchise. They paid 16 Mill to get a 2018 2nd round pick and Osweiler.

It is clear that the Browns are tanking another season. They think they are going to build up the OL and DL and then just add the offensive skill players later. That's a good strategy in general but you don't ignore those positions while doing it. They could have had Wentz last year and with Pryor, they'd probably have a good offense right now.

This could also mean O'Brien just won a power struggle with the GM. It seems pretty obvious that he did not want Osweiler and getting rid of the GM's biggest move after 1 year must mean the owner back O'Brien.

stupid move by Browns.

The consensus on TV and he net if you believe the "experts" is that the Browns fleeced the **** out of Houston. Some are speculating that they aren't even interested in Brock and in fact may even cut him. They have unlimited cap space and they got a 2nd Round pick for taking him off their hands. They owe him $0 after this year.

I see both sides, but the Browns have so many picks. Who knows...maybe Osweiler plays well and they keep him. He can start this year while some rookie sits.

Good deal for the Browns, they now have 3 second round picks in the 2018 draft.

Houston trades QB Brock Osweiler, a second-round pick and a sixth-round pick to Cleveland for a fourth round pick, league sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Browns take on the QB's $16M salary.

LMAO.....Thank God im not a Clowns fan! WTF are they going to with Osweiler $68MM salary......LOLOLOL.

I hope Cleveland extends Sashi Brown for the next twenty years.. LOL. Talk about beating a dead horse....LOL.

Osweiler has only a contract for the 2017 season at $16M. So if he continues to suck the Browns can cut him, with no cap hit.

or just cut him

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Browns are considering releasing Brock Osweiler.

This report comes just 20 minutes after the Browns acquired Osweiler from Houston in a bombshell trade nobody saw coming. It looks like there's a good chance Osweiler will never play a down for Cleveland as the Browns will simply absorb his $16 million salary and move on.

Cleveland has all the cap space in the world so the $16 million hit isn't a big deterrent. Perhaps the Browns will package their first-round pick with the 2018 second-rounder they just received from Houston in a trade for Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo.

I was watching the ESPN live feed of their free agency round table which was actually good, unlike 90% of their content. It was all their football insiders testing and taking calls right on air to break news.

Ed Werder reached out the Cleveland for explanation of their thinking. They mentioned having cap space and getting a 2nd rounder next year. They didn't even mention Osweiler as a benefit. They then basically said they have all this cap space and have to spend it somewhere to which Bill Polian said, then why didn't you pay Alex Mack, and why let Pryor leave?

Yep. The Browns now have the 1st and 12th overall pick, and two second round picks.

Houston saves $16 million in cash and $10 million against their cap this season. Now they can pick up Romo for cheap, who's better than Osweiler.

I think it's a win-win for both teams, but the Browns could be foolish enough to think Osweiler is a long term guy.

Adam Schefter reports teams are already reaching out to the Browns about Brock Osweiler.

Houston punishing Osweiller for fleecing them by sending him to Cleveland, even for just a day.

we could trade them Landry for Osweiller.
