William Jackson lll to Steelers

that doesn't matter. does not fit the narrative. steelers suck and dont know what they are doing. that is it. he could play for the vet minimum next year and make the pro bowl and it will not matter
But that could have happened anyhow. For your narrative to work out he has to agree to drop his crazy contract, renegotiate, make the team and play great. He was going to be a FA one way or the other. Your narrative is basically the Steelers buying his good will for next year by taking it in the *** this year.

and have 30 other teams that could try and get him. at least this way the Steelers have his rights and negotiate a far contract for both

And his leverage is you have to pay me my big contract or release me and all other 31 teams can bid. So if you think he is playing super cheap. Dream on. It was a dumb ****** move no matter how you try to spin it. Hell they could have used the three million next year to over pay him if you like him so much.

Why would he be in high demand with back issues? Even if he played well if he sees the field? If anything that IR should send 31 teams red flags. So his risk is refuse to tweak his contract and end up somewhere else in an even worse situation.

One could definitely argue that 3 million rollover would benefit the team next year sure, but I am all for low risks every year. You don't get better sitting on your hands.

With Witherspoon's play falling off a cliff, the risk is understandable. If his play didn't go in the tank we probably aren't even having this conversation.

So again if there is a problem area by all means try to solidify it.

I don't fault them for that. It is the moves they usually don't make that bite them in the ***.

There is a pool of available Corners next year. He has the option of reducing his salary next year and trying out for the Steelers or joining that pool like the others. They could have tried to find a player in that pool if they don't like what they have. Or I guess they rented William Jackson III with the belief that he will do them a solid next year on the contract and play really well. I just don't get that.

can you tell me the last thing the Steelers have done that you agreed with?

I never said I like him. but at some point I have to assume the guys that actually do this for a living might make a move that will be a good one.

I really didn't dislike any of their offseason moves. Including Mitch. I don't think it has worked out well. I think they kinda threw him under the bus. I really dislike them sticking with Tomlin. I think sticking with Canada is laughable.

Well they liked Ahkello Witherspoon too. How's that worked out? Yeah if they make enough moves some will work.

Right that is next year. The team always has to think about this season as well. Plus they have liked the guy since the draft so perhaps they both already talked about tweaking it next year. I get your viewpoint but the cost of him probably is smaller than what is available next year as well. I have a strong belief in the teams ability to manage the cap. If you factor that in it should make a little more sense. It also doesn't roadblock bringing more corners in by the draft or free agency. Plus with Sutton a FA you kind of like a few extra bodies regardless. One thing in the NFL is for sure, you can never have enough capable corners.

I've got pretty good money he never plays a down for this team.

some of you are acting like the Steelers gave up premium draft picks or huge money for this guy

**** they gave up basically nothing and so they wasted a small bit of cap space

boo ******* hoo

you are the same folks who ***** and moan that the Steelers never do **** to try shore up weak areas on the team

maybe WJIII comes off the IR in a few weeks and can contribute, hell he doesn't have to be all that good to be better than some CBs on this team.

if he never does ****...well I am just glad they rolled the dice and tried SOMETHING

And some of you act like every move the Steelers make is just smart. They paid 3 million dollars. Like I said as much as the Starting Q and Starting Rb. For a guy who didn't get hurt in a game. He was injured to start with. So if he comes back in 5 or 6 weeks that is week 15 on a team that won't contend for playoffs. WTF is that going to mean. I swear some of you act like they could trade Watt for a backup long snapper and well you know.....

You and I are in agreement on most things Steelers but salary cap management clearly is not one. Again numbers could be incorrect but I have read the Steelers are projected 15 -20 million under the cap for next season. Paying a starting Qb 3.2 million. That is astoundingly bad management in my eyes.

I got a really nice Claypool print in my basement. Wasn't that you?
Oh yeah that was me. I miss doing that this year getting canvas' created. I didn't mind losing bets especially when it benefits the team. Just wish it would have turned out better for him and our team. Hopefully I will have enough time next year to perhaps pick back up the weekly contests. 👍

But a necessary evil to a point. They really needed competition at the position. We know they aren't perfect but I find more fault in the coaching. I feel that is the biggest team roadblock. I think they also misjudge their depth needs and often fall short on what they think they have talent wise. That would be my two biggest problems if I listed 1 and 2.

It became a necessary evil by not using the R word when it applied and trying to be feaux contenders these last two or three years kicking salary down the road.

But they had a better offseason in that regards right? They have already started to tweak their approach.
