With patience can Fields become the next Lamar?

As a matter of fact it was. Looked at it again and noticed "AI Overview"
It was the first source that popped up.
I suppose it shouldn't be trusted?
All right, I would trust it more than the guy who said that Jackson had a high rating because he only made easy throws

But AI just takes quotes from the web and doesn't verify the veracity, it's just pulls information that's out there.

You have to look at his numbers and decide if it took him time to develop. Drafted in 18 and MVP in 19 doesn't support him taking a long time to develop.

People don't want to tell the truth for their own reasons. I think he's the best QB in the game and if he continues to play this way and wins a SB this year he's in the conversation for best QB in NFL history

O line was atrocious. Wilson is still a starter.

If Wilson leaves and goes to a team with a line that can protect him, he will light it up. He's excellent at manipulating secondary, excellent decision maker, excellent accuracy and beautiful deep ball. He is a competitor and a team guy.

Obv I don't get the Wilson hate when the O line was bad. Imagine if he had receivers besides Muth
I guess his decision to lower his shoulder at the 3, against Baltimore and his decision to cut up field, rather than go out of bounds, late against the Bangles are fresh in my mind, for poor decision making, among others?

But again, where are they in 3 years when he’s pushing 38/39, but he’s kept Mikey T’s non-losing season streak alive? No premium pick to get a successor and no answer for the long term again.

It makes more sense to build around and develop a very young QB that was originally drafted high, unfortunately by an organization that destroys QB’s. Give fields weapons and the same system for 3 years and see if can reach the ceiling many thought he had when he came out?

He has a ways to go before challenging the top 5 QB’s all time. A best year is a huge accomplishment In its own right, and can be acknowledged without thinking best over the course of your career. Even League MVP wins must be discounted, when you are not competing against the GOAT in their prime.

Right now is is in the Antonio Brown classification. Just like AB was never considered better overall than Jerry Rice, though he did have a short period of time where he was considered to be able to surpass him. Jackson is well on his way to being included in that debate, but he has MANY years of showing that he deserves to be in that conversation. Not to mention those 7 pesky Super Bowl wins AND 13 Conference Championships.

Don't be surprised if they sign Wilson to a 3 year deal. Tomlin seems to have given Wilson his word and we all know Tomlin will hold onto a player much longer than he should. Just look at our last punter. He was here probably 2 years longer than he should have.

May as well

Then Art 2/Mike/Russ can ride off into the sunset
together with “their bags” putting an exclamation mark on a decade of futility/mediocrity/not contending

Personally, I think it’s up to a new President and new Head coach if they want to try. Field’s has enough of a floor I would definitely bring him back but I would let a new regime decide if they wanted to try to develop Fields or sign a veteran or draft a guy.

PLEASE PUT THE CRACK PIPE DOWN AND STEP AWAY SLOWLY.

Russ is done.
He was done in Seattle and Denver.
We tried. It didn't work. We wasted a little over a million dollars to find out.
NEXT!

Hello sir. Nice megaphone.

What part of shetty O line and shetty receivers did you not understand

I think Fields was benched, at least partially, because of the poor OL play early on and the expectation that DangeRuss would handle it better. That worked until it didn't against better teams and DenveRuss regressed.

I would sign Fields to a 3 year incentive laden deal, draft an athletic project QB similar to Fields and sign a mobile vet b/u QB (like they did with Skylar Thompson).
I would have a QB coach who specializes in mobile QB development and another as his assistant to coach up all 4 QBs with similar talents to run a similar offence built around qb mobility/RPO to take what the D is giving them.

I would find the OL coach who can develop the OL for this type of QB, and insist that he sync well with the QB coach and the OC for a team based approach to
a versatile Offense, like the Rats and Bills and KC all have (mobile qbs that can succeed without highly paid, whiny, diva wrs) that feature stellar TEs as productive receivers who also chip to start their routes.

I think Jaylen Warren and a similar FA/draft RB would excel like Cook/Pacheco because of scheme that benefits their style, and play calling that aligns all the talent on O.

WRT WRs, it is interesting to note that none of the Bills, Chefs or Rats have that star WR. Buffalo and KC both got rid of their divas and have had great success with lesser guys because of scheme. I love Pickens talent, but would prefer Emanuel Sanders type WR for consistent performance w/o drama. If the Steelers could find another Hines Ward or Anquan Boldin type, great.

The Bills got rid of a diva WR who couldn't keep his mouth shut (also why he was traded away from Minn), and then mid-season traded for a legit WR1B because of the glaring hole in their offense. KC did much of the same thing, they tried to replace Hill with Brown, then Rice, and then drafted Worthy...they were still missing that big play guy, so they traded for Hopkins. Getting rid of Pickens and replacing him with lesser doesn't fix anything in our offense. No matter what scheme, you need that second receiving threat. They traded for Williams and then barely played him, even tho when they did put him on the field and went to him, it was usually a big play.

He played 9 games for us, was targeted 13 times (that's pathetic), had 9 catches for 132 yards and a TD. Compare that to Van Jefferson, 17 games, 40 targets, 24 catches, 276 yards and 2 TD's. And that was our WR2. Calvin Austin had way better stats (58 targets, 36 catches, 548 yards, 4TD's), still not WR2 stats, but he did that in 128 LESS snaps.

Offensive snaps for WR this year:
Pickens: 774
Van Jefferson: 721
Austin: 593
Miller: 210
Williams: 171
Skowronek: 101

In order to have any success by getting rid of Pickens, you would have to replace him with 3 legit WR's. So you could find your Sanders type guy, but then you need another Sanders type guy to replace Van Jefferson as well. And then hope that Austin can develop more. Roman Wilson is still a complete unknown, but it's not looking good with how Tomlin was talking about him.

I would prefer the Ravens lose badly.
Same here but I am also a pragmatist.

As much as I would like to see Buffalo win a Super Bowl, I think the only team in the AFC with a chance of beating KC is Baltimore.

So if they happen to beat Buffalo I will be OK with it. I think that might be the only thing that saves us from another KC/Mahomie/Kelce/Swift lovefest. Definitely don't want that again.

And what part of watching Russ and SEEING he is cooked does your brain not compute?
I don't disagree with the O-Line and WR comments.
I whole-heartedly disagree with Russ still being a CAPABLE starter and being able to light up anything, with or without O-Line/WRs.
Backup clipboard holding break in case of emergency? Sure.
Starter that gives a contending team a chance? Nope.

Seattle and Denver chose re-treads and rookies over Russ, and now we know why.

You think some hero QB would have taken that team further after admitting there is no Online and no receivers. I doubt it.

Wilson is a top 10 QB in this league today. You can megaphone on the web all you want but he still has it and he showed it when he wasn't running for his life.

I see Russ as a guy that can get ya a few wins verse mediocre-bad teams, but hardly a guy that will take you through an entire season to anywhere of significance.

He’s Check-down Charlie Batch with the ability to get off an occasional moon ball if you have a Mike Williams/GP for him to chuck one to.

He has proven to not have the ability to win games verse good teams, and that is problematic if he’s your QB1.

Wilson can't do it alone. There's one QB on the roster today. Wilson would be a good addition

Must have been a different Russ that threw for 400 yrds against the Bengals... No QB is going to light it up consistently with the scheme / playcalling we have. When we played the Bengals the first time i think over 10 guys caught passes. Najee, Warren, the TEs were being used consistently, but the next Bengal game was run run pass. In the 4th they opened it up and started moving the ball...Russ can be a capable starter but needs help. I world take Russ over Darnold any day. I think Darnold is fools gold. I would be fine giving Fields a shot next year, but alot has to change for any QB to be successful here. On a side not only 7 QBs threw for over 400 yrds in a game this year and Russ had the 5th highest total of the year.

Yeah, but that would make too much sense.

And Najee had ANOTHER 1000 yard season.
And George was late to ANOTHER meeting.
And Tomlin was ANOTHER 1 and done in the playoffs.
Please don't sit there and glaze Old Man River over 1 game.

And, hey, this isn't me excusing this putrid excuse for a coaching staff.
But since we're stuck with this ineptitude, might as well have a younger, more mobile, more athletic QB that also knows when to throw the ball away, when to run out of bounds, and when to lower the shoulder and try to fight for that extra yard.
Russ is as retarded as Tomlin.........or TrollAintChangin.

I want to hope that Fields can be Lamar 2.0, but I don't see it. I know Lamar was not the QB he is now, at first, and that he was coached up, etc. That is my biggest problem. I just don't trust that the Steelers have the guy who can do it. So now what? With the right coaching, the chances increase greatly. With his great attitude that we all hear he has, increases come more. I just don't see the coaching in place to make this happen.
