I don't follow other teams closely enough, but there is such a repeating pattern of the Steelers trading malcontents. Tomlin is always hyped up to be able to manage these guys yet we are moving on left and right--and it's not just receivers. The Steelers were in a tough spot w/ Pickens, but I would have rolled the dice and see how things went this year. The Oline "should" be better and we brought in a #1 WR. If Pickens started acting up we could have suspended him, benched him, or did an in-season trade. Instead of a 3rd we might have gotten a 4th or 5th, but I think that would have been a gamble worth taking. On the flip side if there was a bunch of behind the scenes issues going on then you cant really fault the team for dumping Pickens, but there should have been a better replacement plan. Now we are pretty much back to square one of last year with no QB and a 30 million / yr WR.
Again, I am fine with the Steelers trading Pickens. There were too many instances of lack of effort and outbursts. I also think a lot of this has been created from a stone age approach on offense that doesn't get playmakers the ball. I also know that a player's trade value is only as good as what other teams will offer, but a young WR with production and that type of talent--especially in a poor wide receiver draft--should've been worth more. That just has to make you wonder how bad things actually are behind the scenes.
