Pickens being traded to Dallas?

The Steelers were in a tough spot w/ Pickens, but I would have rolled the dice and see how things went this year. The Oline "should" be better and we brought in a #1 WR. If Pickens started acting up we could have suspended him, benched him, or did an in-season trade. Instead of a 3rd we might have gotten a 4th or 5th, but I think that would have been a gamble worth taking. On the flip side if there was a bunch of behind the scenes issues going on then you cant really fault the team for dumping Pickens, but there should have been a better replacement plan. Now we are pretty much back to square one of last year with no QB and a 30 million / yr WR.
I don't follow other teams closely enough, but there is such a repeating pattern of the Steelers trading malcontents. Tomlin is always hyped up to be able to manage these guys yet we are moving on left and right--and it's not just receivers.

Again, I am fine with the Steelers trading Pickens. There were too many instances of lack of effort and outbursts. I also think a lot of this has been created from a stone age approach on offense that doesn't get playmakers the ball. I also know that a player's trade value is only as good as what other teams will offer, but a young WR with production and that type of talent--especially in a poor wide receiver draft--should've been worth more. That just has to make you wonder how bad things actually are behind the scenes.

I just think making the statement, without proof, that the owner of a sports team only cares about money is as bad an accusation you can make of an owner. It's like saying a pilot is reckless, or a doctor is dismissive or something.
Read my original post again. I was making a generalized statement about owner’s priorities and IF they wanted to save money HOW they might do it.

Many talking heads have said that those are things the Steelers have done and are doing. I didn’t accuse them of anything, because I do not have access to the books or management discussions.

Bullshiit. You said Rooney is more worried about money than winning. What have I misinterpreted? I think that assertion is pretty nasty without proof. I think it's more due to set in their ways type thinking. I think there is plenty of evidence to support that. Being that they are up against the cap every year, for example, I think your argument is not valid.
Cap management is only one piece of the puzzle.

Only commenting on the cap verbiage . I think for the most part they were up against the cap. I am thinking last year they had some wiggle room and this YTD they have a decent amount available.

I know. I was responding to another post.

Again, I just disagree with the idea that Rooney only cares about making his money. I understand it is said out of frustration. I don't like it because it cannot be proven...but admittedly I don't want it to be true. Because if that would be the case, 50 years of being a fan would be over. Done. How can we root for that?

Actually neither...

But anyone who says Hurts isn't a Top 10 QB should re-evaluate how they evaluate QB's

I don't consider QB 10 to be elite.

Eagles rushed for 179 yards per game. Eagles defense only gave up 18 points per game.

Hurts threw for 193 yards per game. He had 18 passing TDs. For comparison, Russell Wilson had 16 TD in just 11 games. Hurts plays well within that Eagles system but he's not carrying that team. Not even close.

You're free to think he's great. I just think he's a decent QB in the best QB situation in the NFL.

He was what was needed and played better as the season went along.

Likewise to all that you heap on too of a very basic premise I laid out (sinister, back room meetings and all the other bs you spew)
If you can’t figure it out that’s on you

Buh bye

When do we trade the coach for lack of effort?
I’d take a 3rd and a pick swap for the less talented coach tomorrow

His supporters get fewer and fewer by the day. Mike has pretty much lost the bulk of Steelernation IMO.

The Bears called about him, Rooney basically hung up on them.
